    Default Essence Fest (NOLA dancers)

    Hey Ladies,
What are your experiences with Essence Fest (4th of July weekend)?

It's one of the biggest (and only) events all summer that draws a large amount of tourists (excepting conventions). I've worked in the service industry in New Orleans for a loooong time, so I do have some prior experience with this crowd. I've mixed things about working 4th of July, and I've had good and bad experiences of my own while working bar/restaurant jobs during this weekend in the past. However, I'm not sure how any of my experiences relate to dancing.

So, if you have worked in a Bourbon St. club during Essence Fest/July 4th wkend in the past, please let me know youir experiences. Was it busy/ good $$$; busy/no $$$; or not busy at all?
Is it worth it to work Bourbon St. during that time?

Thanks in advance for your input.

no idea... but i do know that ricks closes during essence fest. they also close during bayou classic. although i hear the essence fest crowd is a lot older and less 'gangsta' than the bayou classic crowd. i think ricks must really hate black people or something.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:

me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Aside from being predominately black, the Bayou Classic and the Essence crowds are not the same at all. I would never even consider working during Bayou Classic, as they are notoriously disrespectful, cheap, and awful (this tends to be true for most large groups of sports fans).
The Essence crowd is generally older, more upper-middle class, and less rowdy.
That being said, I have no idea what kind of SC customers they'll be.

last night I met a guy from new orleans at my club. He told me to go check it out.. that I would bank there with my look.( blonde hair and coco austin type ass) So I looked at amtrak prices- they were affordable. I am prob going to be staying at a cheap motel for a week or 2 in July- is this feasible?

I will just be getting about by cab. I would so love to visit- I always think of the scenery from interview with the vampire. The well dressed man I met last night, who travels from there to my city once a month compared our two cities. He said," Here(MI) its pretty straightforward. What you see is what you get. There(NOLA) you get a very rich culture." For those of you who live there, what are some cheap hotels near the clubs you reccomend? Are there any areas to avoid? I know things move in a slower pace in the south and I love it.

Where's the cheap motel gonna be? If you plan on cabbing it to the club, the closest cheap motel would probably be in Metairie or Kenner which is NOT close to Bourbon street at all..... Try to find a hotel on hotwire in either French Quarter or what they call "downtown"... a lot of times the rates are cheaper but if you stay somewhere really cheap you'll make up for it in cab fare.

A friend of mine just came to visit, and she got a really good rate at The French Quarter Courtyard Hotel.
I don't know if the rates change for 4th of July weekend (probably), but you could look into it.
Another place that has reasonable rates and is right downtown is The Frenchmen Hotel.

If I think of some other ones worth looking into, I'll let you know.

No, no license. You just need to bring your SS card. Nowhere will hire if you don't have it.

Robert Waters (the owner) is a long time family friend of my mother since she danced at the original Rick's here in Houston back in the day before it went to shit and was turned into the Onyx Club eventually. He is not a racist. If he was, then why would he be in New Orleans? Just saying.

    All that aside...

My grandmother went to Rick's on Saturday and she said that they were, in fact, CLOSED. She and I did not and still do not understand that logic but who knows the reason for closing. That is like The Mens Club, St James, and Treasures closing during OTC. That's like dancer's money suicide. I don't get it.

There are plenty of racist people in new Orleans. Just like everywhere else. Racial tensions can definitely be a problem here.

Do you know two black girls named Coco and Raquel? I don't know if they use those stage names down in NOLA. I went there with them in September 2010 and they've been back several times since. Coco said she worked with you. Both of them can do some killer pole tricks, they stand out.

They're both from Michigan--Detroit/Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, from Deja Vu.

Coco is very tall and skinny, small boobs, big ass. Usually has a curly/wavy straight lace on. Raquel is a little shorter, similar straight lace weave, big eyes, very muscular, smaller boobs, big ass.

They work at Hustler from what I remember.

^ ha, ha I know them! They told me they were sisters and were asking me about key west because I dances there and she the really skinny on who went by flawless was really nice. On new years before I even met her she came up to me called me by my dancer name and palnted a big one on me. Ha, ha I was like and who are you and how do you know my name, she was like I see your name all over that vip list every night. lol. I saw her the last time I was back in feb. Not sure if she ever made it to key west.

Oh yes and they are great on the pole! I told her that and she said her sister was better but I thought she was. They looked similar and could pass for sisters but the one who went by flawless was nicer, hotter. Her sister or whatever wasn't as friendly she seemed to get pissed when flawless would talk to me. Weird. Ok. end thread jack.

No, you don't need an ss card to work in NOLA, but you probably need one to work in any Deja Vu club.

Lipstixx, Temptations, Stilettos, Babe's Cabaret, Shobar
^^ All of these clubs are locally owned, and these places are a good place to start if you want to avoid needing to present your ss card. I haven't been in all of them, but some might be kind of sleazy. They're all within a few blocks of each other, so you can just spend an evening walking down Bourbon and checking them out to see if there's any one of those clubs that seems workable to you. If not, send for your card.

^ The decent clubs yes. Ricks penthouse and hustlers clubs. There is an office right there ( ricks made my friend go there and apply for one, even though it was day shift and she had a passport) they let her work right after she went there though.

When i used to work at Barely legal i used to stay at the Haunted Hotel on Urslines. Now im not gonna lie this is definitely not the nicest hotel ive ever stayed in, but the rates were really good. A lot of dancers and other club staff would use this hotel and they had different deals where you could stay for a full week or even a month and its actually cheaper to do one of those options. Plus this hotel has a gate that is locked at all times so you need a key to even get in and then you have another key for your room. The hotel is in the French Quarter so i think i only had a few blocks walk to work it was great no cab fees. Where i worked in the mornings when you would get off the bouncers would escort you back to your hotel as long as you tipped out which i loved cause for a 110 lb white girl walking home alone isnt exactly smart, but they were great. Hope some of this helps.

lol I was just about to suggest the haunted hotel. I like it cause I do believe just dancers stay there. I am going down last week of august through the 1st of september with another girl. I just found out it was decadence festival which i guess is like gay mardi gras. I'm kinda nervous about making money but I have no issues dancing for females or gay guys for that matter lol. So what is the earning potential during dec. fest? I just want a heads up before i'm down there. Thanks for any info.
