Default Pretty Woman was actually supposed to be a completely different movie

I was bopping around online, and reading some stuff on Julia Roberts and
found out that the movie Pretty Woman was actually supposed to be a dark
story of prostitution. But then it got sold to Disney and the names were already
attached, and so Julia Roberts initially thought she was going to be making a completely different movie.

I looked up the screenplay and haven't read it all, but for those interested, here it is.

The title of the movie was originally "$3,000."

Molly Ringwald was supposed to play the lead, but she turned down the role. I wish it would have been her instead of Julia Roberts, honestly.

Yes and Vivian was supposed to have been a typical drug addicted hooker.

Wow thanks for that. I read it on my flight. It's a shame I couldn't get the image of the film out of my head.
I loved that Kit was in it more

^yes, but Kit wasn't the fiesty girl I loved so much from the movie.

Edward was a complete bastard in this screenplay!

I don't know which one I like more. One's really...gritty, and I liked the parts with the fur (must've been taken out due to PETA.)

On the other hand, Edward in the screenplay is part chivalrous, part really big dickhead.

I think they streamlined him a bit more believably in the movie, that he could be a dickhead, but that he wasn't almost dr. jekyll, mr. hyde.

I actually like Julia Roberts as an actress, but found out that her current husband she picked up while he was still married.

I stopped liking Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angelina Jolie because this behavior bothers me. I wonder if I'm going to stop liking JR?

I saw "pretty woman" on my first date with my first real boyfriend who I had my first REALLY GOOD DOWN AND DIRTY HOT SEX with....
(not on the first date though!)
He was 21, I was 16, and he said I was "the best sex he ever had!"
    HAHAHAHAHA!

Its still my favorite "fairy tale" movie. Yeah Disney!

(and yes, I am a perv and masturbaholic and I blame Disney for making it romantic to be a total little slut...)

^It's a quick read. Like 2 hours. But it is NOT a happy hooker story. Prepare to be depressed.

Bet JR is glad that happened. It's currently one of the most popular movies of our time.

I'm actually glad to hear that it was supposed to be an entirely different movie.

Because Pretty Woman, as it was made, was one of the very worst movies I have ever seen, and bore about as much relation to reality as Lord of the Rings or maybe Dumbo (the flying elephant).

And I think most movies aimed at the mass market public suck, so it was really, really fucking bad. I'd much rather have seen the dark truth about the likelihood of any kind of romance blooming from such a pair, and I don't like depressing movies either.
