    Skull "Normal" job blues

So i still hold my normal every day job as a P/T gig. But lately it's become depressing. Maybe it's because it's an hour away from me or maybe I'm burnt out from it. I just get this horrible feeling that I am losing so much money having to come here. Does anyone else have a P/T, vanilla job? Has anyone converted over from vanilla job to strictly working in the sex industry and how did you make the complete switch? How hard was it economically for you? I used to only work doing peepshows, but I am not doing that anymore, I just cam and escort. Although, I have not been escorting because I keep injuring myself and I am fostering two very small kittens and do not have the time for it. I dunno, I know it's money that i will definitely make but it's so boring and depressing. Sometimes I think about crashing my car so that way I don't have to go.

Pardon my bluntness but u sound overall depressed. I tried the reverse sort of. A few years ago I worked a part time 8/hr job and I hated it. I felt I was wasting my time working 24-32 hrs a week for a small amount of money. I knew even though money isnt always great dancing I would make more money. I went from hating a low paying vanilla part time job to back to dancing where I felt relief. In my case I will need to go back to a vanilla job eventually more than likely and I will prolly be miserable bc it isnt challenging nor so far anything I really want to do. I really dont like most retail positions.

I think u need to regroup and re-evaulate. Sometimes this business takes away too much and sometimes u need to try and get urself back. Hope that makes sense.

Yea, I do occasionally suffer from depression but it gets worse when I even think about having to come to my normal job and the whole day I am here it's hard for me to even smile at my customers. Maybe retail just isn't my thing anymore. Plus I feel like a shitty person because I work for a small business so I feel like I am cheating them by being so miserable. Today, I just locked up the store and went for a walk. I felt better but immediately guilty because I felt like an ass for not having their store open to make money.

Id say take a break from the part time retail job. U sound miserable there. I give u credit bc if I were feeling like u I wouldve quit by now. ANd I have. Im not sure of ur age but retail positions are better suited to younger people who can handle the small amount of income due to the fact that they still live at home w little to no bills. People who r just starting out in the job world and r just trying to get used to working imho.

Sounds like u need a change of pace and ur the only one who can figure out what that would be.

Perhaps you could apply to non-retail but straight world jobs? Retail sucks, it's constant customer interaction as with stripping but you get less pay and, IMO, less respect! I have a straight job that I don't particularly love, but it involves me sitting in front of a computer and not talking to people, so it's really not as draining as retail would be and I can do it when in a totally crappy mood. You sound like you might be burning out on sex work a bit, and it's true that the money isn't always certain. If you want to keep a job with a steady paycheck, then maybe you could apply to some office assistant or data entry type jobs.

I work a straight world job because I am trying to start a career and I need something on my resume. When I started, I was burned out on stripping and the pay cut didn't matter at that point. Now I also work as a dominatrix on the weekends and keep feeling tempted to take it full time, but don't want to lose my resume gap-stopper. Also, I do worry about not having a steady income.

If you aren't burned out or otherwise unable to do sex work, and if you can deal with the financial uncertainty, then it makes more sense to go back to it full-time and step up your game. Retail isn't usually a beautiful thing to have on your resume anyway (if your resume is a concern). I'm tempted to go dominatrix full-time and volunteer or intern for something more in my field than my current job and prepare for the future that way. There's no reason to keep a straight job that makes you miserable, loses you money, and doesn't contribute to your future.

Retail is torture... you're expected to kiss ass for no money. To me, it's demeaning. If you are unhappy, quit. Life is too short... but it definitely does sound like you are suffering from depression also. You may be blaming retail for the blues when the cause is physiological, you know?

Thanks guys. I think I am going to make this my last year there. You're right tampa, it is demeaning. I feel like half the day I am treated like shit from strangers and the other half I am treated like shit from my boss ( who happens to be my moms best friend lol). Shiftx I started there when I was 22 or 23, I'm now going to be 26. I do feel like I am wasting my time. I do go to school as well, so I do intend on moving on anyway. I guess I didn't mind it when I lived closer, but now I live an hour away and I finally got a .25 cent raise, my first raise in 2 years! But thanks again for all of your advice. I just need to leave and never look back.

I agree with shift6x that retail is low pay, really only good for kids who don't have any real bills (except mebbe a cell phone, car gas, and weekend spending money) and live at home. Hence my calling retail and other similar jobs (fast food, grocery store, etc) "high school jobs".

Can't u find something better that's still a strait job, like mebbe entry level office work at a temp agency? Even the lowest data entry clerk jobs tend to pay slightly more than retail, like $9.50/hr+ insteada 8/hr and after u take a few of these on short term u have then developed experience and clout with the agency to go for better, more skilled office work.

Seriously I dunno why u stay at a job that is so far away (u can get a retail job pretty much ANYWHERE, no need to drive all that far, unless ur embarrassed to still be in retail and don't want aquintinces from ur town coming into ur work). Esp with the low raise. It took 2yrs to get a 25 cent raise? Seriously I was able to get that at MCDONALDS (the epitome of low-end high school jobs, mebbe even worse than working at walmart) after only 5mos when I was 15 back in the 1990s (when 25 cents went further then it does today). The only excuse I can see for some1 still working retail at ur age and for so long, is if u've been promoted to manager (with subsiquent raises), or MEBBE if it's an easy job alongside a full time "real" career u work only to get major merchandise discounts at a place u shop at frequintly

Yes I am doing a vanilla job, it helps me deal with depression and gives me routine.
I did quit my vanilla job to do full time dancing 3 years ago and I got burned out very fast, no balance. At least the vanilla job gave me routine and balance although most of my income comes from my industry job LOL from the dancing & hustling.
