Default Anyone work in a cube farm?

After a decade of working in various offices i've come to the conclusion that stripping kept me sane.

Now that i'm retired being a keyboard monkey is just too much - i literally have reached my limit and would rather be homeless that work in another job that means i have to sit at a computer for 8 hours a day pretending to look busy.

I have two jobs at the moment - one of which i'm quitting in the morning (the admin-hell cube farm), the other is in a theatre and far more suited to my skills and creativity but they can't afford to have me more than 2 days a week and i have bills to pay (hence why i've been considering coming out of retirement but it looks like it's just not worth while dancing in London these days)

Has anyone here got out of the office-borg environment for something else? If so what? Did you have to retrain (i can't afford to retrain)?

Yikes, I don't have advice for you as I do office work as well and haven't gotten out, but I empathize with your position and wish you good luck! I'm lucky to work in a very tiny office where there's definitely no cybernanny-type stuff, the supervisor is relaxed, and we all quietly surf the web and look at anything and everything when there's nothing to do. If I had to make busy-work for myself or sit there staring at an empty spreadsheet for 8 hours, I would go crazy too!

I mean, maybe there is a small amount of advice in there for the short term. Could you find a place that's a lot more relaxed and small? From what I've heard, it's the larger companies that monitor their admins' every move and where you have to sit there bored out of your mind if there's nothing to do.

I don't know how to change to a different field altogether, though. What skills do you have? What other stuff have you done in the past?
