I don't know if you remember but last time I was seeking an XL BA I found Dr. Foster in Lake Tahoe, the dude who uses expanders. You were wary of him because he said he would add more saline weekly and only 50-200ccs of it at a time(and he would charge $225 each time). You said that reopening the wound weekly was not safe and that 200cc max refills was pointlessly minuscule(and that you were given a 30% increase of volume with each of your refills). I revisited his site and apparently he doesn't refill by reopening the incision....he does it through injection. What do you think of this(from his site):

The first operation involves removing the previous breast implants, enlarging the pockets, and placing the breast expanders. The expanders are then filled to the same size as the previous implants. It requires about a month of healing time before the incision is firm enough to begin stretching the skin. Thereafter, saline injections are administered through a numb spot on the skin. A small drop of Novocain is injected at first. The injections go into a leak-proof valve on the front of the expander that allows for 100 to 200 cc of injections every week. The surgeon needs to take care not to fill it more than the tissues can withstand. Excessive pressure can lead to a collapse of the blood vessels around the expander, causing interference with the healing process and making the patient susceptible to infection. Therefore, it is not advisable to expand more than 200 cc a week on any patient, and in some patients the limit may even be only 50 to 100 cc a week.

Does it still sound fishy? The bold part confuses me....why does the initial set have to be the same size as the implants being replaced?? I have never heard of that before in my life. Is he being purely mercenary? I mean, increasing size in one surgery is obviously very common, how else do women all over the world upgrade their implants?? (I wish it would work out with this doctor since he's located in my future state but it ain't worth it if he's a quack!!)

Btw my intent would be to keep the expanders in for as long as possible once I have reached my ideal size....I know his intention is to replace them with gel implants once the ideal size is reached but meh.

^^^ I know for a fact that Mentor has successfully tested their Spectrum tissue expander implant up to 3000cc fill. See

The Spectrum's filler ports and tubes snap off and permanently seal when you're done 'filling' them i.e. they're officially rated as a 'permanent' implant.

I'm still a believer in waiting longer between fillups in order to accomodate a larger number of cc's being added. Every time you puncture the skin and implant valve with a needle, you're adding to the risk of valve leakage and infection.

These ones are gonna be really hard to hide from my mom. I'm might have to invest in some moomoos for her next visit.

    ..........

*sigh* Someday when we're both old ladies I can't wait to share with her all of the hysterical stripper stories I've been collecting in my memory. She'll crack up!

I have been in contact with Dr Foster myself

One of his patients from London got in touch with me.
She had the expanders put in over with Dr Foster and expanded in the UK by another Dr and he did it at a quicker rate than Dr Foster (More cc's per fill)

So it is possible to do that and find a surgeon in your area that you can go to for top ups.
But as Melonie says the risk for infection every time you have a fill up is something to be considered.

How many CC's are you looking at getting ?

I'm thinking 1500ccs. I have no idea about a non-Foster doctor for topping me off. Dr. Foster is the only doctor here I have ever heard of who uses expanders, I imagine it will be pretty hard here finding a doc who knows how to use 'em.

Quite possible and for the cost of Dr Foster £7500 minimum (what I was quoted!)
you could travel to Europe get 1500cc co-gels (£5999) and still have £1501 left for your flights etc.

I hear that MYA (Mr S works through them too) could get 2000cc PIP's a few months back.
As PIP are now not trading anymore I imagine there are not many pairs of them left.

I heard PIP got closed down for bad reasons? I would love 2000s.

^^^ I don't know whether you have enough breast skin to safely make the 'jump' from 1000 to 2000 in one shot. If there's a way to get silicone custom 1500's versus overfilled salines I would definitely choose the silicones !!!

As to the 'fate' of PIP, scuttlebut was that they were caught using sub-medical grade silicone. Whether there's any serious validity to that claim was never proven. PIP was purchased by an American implant company ... who had no interest whatsoever in continuing PIP's large custom implant division.

On the flip side a new implant company has been started in the UK called NAGOR ... which has arguably scarfed up some former PIP personnel. They offer saline tissue expander implants with an 1100cc rating right out of the catalog, and also offer 'custom fabrication' services. The bad part for American girls, of course, is that so far NAGOR has not gone through the US FDA testing and approval process for any of its new implant offerings.

Yep I heard the same about PIP's a memo was sent out to UK surgeons after an inquiry.
Apparently the 'rumors' about PIP's being filled with mattress glue were unfounded....this facilitated UK surgeons who had used PIP implants to stop replacing them for free.
Regardless of this the facts still remain that PIP cohesive gels have a higher rupture rate than others.

This is a video of Cathy Barry having her anatomical PIP implants replaced by Mr Shiva Singh.
You can see the rupture of the gels (stringy and sticky looking)
