I use baking soda to clean my teeth, I add it to my shampoo to really clean my hair and scalp, I use it as an exfoliant, as a pre-shave lotion, and to kill zits if they ever appear. Baking soda is miraculous.

Lemon juice and brown sugar as an exfoliator.
Honey, coconut oil, castor oil or honey with milk as a moisturizer.
Coconot oil, olive oil, advocato oil for your hair.
Clear nail polish + garlic + aloe = Stronger nails.

I second the adding baking soda to your shampoo! It removes build up and makes you hair shiny. Just don't do it every day or your hair gets kinda dry. I do it like every 2 days and my hair is much happier {and less oily}.
    {Safe on colored hair. Mine is dyed natural red and it didn't fade it one bit!}

I pat baking soda on after a shower in my armpits instead of using deodorant to avoid the aluminum (and Tom's of Maine brand sucked.)

I use soap to brush my teeth with, or baking soda, or coconut oil.

Honey is a great skin mask.

I use baking soda for deodorant, I use it in place of shampoo and then I use water with a little bit of apple cider vinegar to 'condition' it. I used to use expensive ass shampoos too...never again.

Olive oil as a moisturizer. Fast absorbing and keeps my legs looking deliciously moisturized waaaaaaaaaaay better than lotion. Never going back to that junk.

Add me to the list of baking soda fans! Baking soda + peroxide for teeth has worked for me. I was using straight up peroxide, but a mixture of water and peroxide is probably better.
Also, I use vinegar and lemon juice for deodorant, for the same reason as Fiendish, and it works. The vinegar smell does go away after a couple of minutes, if given enough air to whisk it away, imo, but if the smell is too much, lemon juice has also worked, for me, and leaves a lemony scent-which also "dissolves" in the air. Why does it work? What I've read convinces me that the acidity of the vinegar kills the bacteria that cause the musty smell(So, the vinegar/lemon deodorant effect wears off after about 5-6 hours, in my case). It is not an antipersperant, but that is a plus for me.
I use the baking soda + vinegar mixture on my hair(1/4 c baking soda + 1/4 viegar). A) it gives you some major suds and bubbles after massaging it in for about 5 minutes, and B) it does work as a hair cleaner, for me. No leftover scent.
All these DIY exfoliators are stirring the cheap cosmetic chemist in me to some experimenting tonight. >
If I wanted you, I could have you.

Morning and night I used a homemade toner of 1/2 ACV and 1/2 cooled green tea. My skin was glowing, soft, and breakouts were non-existent. I had women stop me in the street and compliment me, telling me I was glowing.

I typically have super red cheeks, dry skin, and hormonal acne along my jawline. Unbelievable.

I also have super dry hair. Scrunching in some olive oil midlength to ends if I have time before a shower has been really good to my dryness and frizz.

I second that! I also use cucumber as a skin lightener (got a little sun damage from years roasting under the African sun as a kid), works great!

^I have two methods - one is just for lightening, and another for a mild exfoliation as well:

    1. I cut a few slices and simply place these on the spots I want to treat (great for tired eyes too). Leave the slices on your skin for a few minutes and don't wash off the juice (or if you're in a hurry - just rub the slices on your skin and don't wash off).

    2. I peel the cucumber and run it through my juicer to extract the juice and some of the pulp. I mix this with olive oil (about 1/3 the amount of the cuc pulp/juice) and rub over my body for a great exfoliator. I leave this on for about 20-30 mins and then go hop in the shower to rinse off (just gently wipe off the pulp and any excess oil first or you'll clog your plumbing!). Olive oil is a natural exfoliator, and if you leave it on, your skin will start shedding dead skin cells in a day or two - I use gentle circular strokes with a soft wash cloth or soft loofah at this stage. I do this every now and then - not too often.

Cucumber is also a great natural moisturizer, though keep in mind it does have a bleaching effect over time.

Homemade Lip Scrub: 1pt Olive oil, and 1 pt sugar - massage into lips for a few moments and wipe clean.

Homemade Facial Toner: 2pt Green Tea, 1pt Which Hazel, 1pt Apple Cyder Vinegar - dab with cotton all over face after washing, before moisturizer.

Homemade Pimple Spot Treatment: 1pt Red Wine Vinegar, 1pt lemon juice - dip Q-tip in mixture and apply to pimples ONLY. It's very drying.

Homemade Hair Conditioner: 2pt Honey, 1pt Olive Oil, few drops of Rosemary or Lavendar oils (If you have oily hair you might want to tone down the Olive oil) - heat in microwave for 15 seconds till warm. Test on your wrist before pouring on your head. Rinse WELL.

I have lots of homemade 'medicines' too if anyone is interested.

Oh, I wanted to say that these probably are my favorite DIY recopies, but I don't use them everyday (except for the toner) and I do think that chemically store bought stuff works well too (and use a lot of it).

Also, be careful with using baking soda on your teeth. It's damaging after awhile.

Oh how could I forget! Homemade LipStain! I made these for a few years in middle school for my girlfriends. They're really cute.

Palm-full of Partridge berries or Cranberries, depending on the colour you want the stain
    3 pt Almond Oil
    1 pt Honey
Few drops of Palm Oil (you could probably use any light oil - like grape or coconut. Play with it a little)
And if you'd like, a few drops of an extract that you like (Cinnimon will make your lips plumper, Almond will make the flavor/smell stronger, etc)

So you mix it all together in a microwave safe bowl, nuke it for a few mintues, stopping every 30 seconds to crush up the berries well. I was following from a book, and the book said to heat it on a double boiler on the stovetop, but I took the lazy Microwave way and it still came out fine.

Once it gets hot and bubbly, strain it REALLY well (like - cheesecloth) and let it cool, then pour it into little tubs or lip balm pots.

It's not a super high quality product, so I woudn't go out and buy all the stuff for it intentionally; just good if you have some things laying around. You can probably substitute a lot of the ingredients if you want to mix things up. I bet you could use all sorts of berries.

It's a fun little project and has a nice colour too it. It's also all natural if you're really into that. There's probably a better instruction of this online somewhere.

*Perioxide for zits ( you have to catch them early) ...I will NEVER buy pimple cream again!
*Apple Cider Vinegar for hair...Closes the hair cuticle and gives incredible shine (no worries, the smell goes away as it dries)

I am ALL for saving money and products that have multi uses

Do you use the peroxide even if the pimples has popped? or is this just for when they appear?? or do you use always all over your face??
