Default Need Help Recovering An Important Word Document!

SO I'm freaking out right now. I saved a huge document on Word with a bunch of tips and stuff but I somehow overwrote that file with other information even though that was supposed to be a separate document, and now I can't "unsave" it and get the document to how it was before! I really need to recover that information! Can anyone please help me??

Oh Dear - I sympathise, I really do. I've had this happen in the past......and it's not a simple fix.

You might be able to find a previous version by going through the Windows Restore process and using the last recorded recovery point. Try using the Back-up and Restore Wizard - look at these instructions:

There's also some more info here:

Also, take a look at this:

The trouble is, that it's almost impossible to recover previous information in MS-Word if it is over-written. Another possibliity, is that you might be able to have a Data Recovery Company do it for you - but they will physically need the hard drive, and it will cost you.

Almost all the references I have found on-line say that you should have backed it up onto a USB Flash Drive or an External Hard Drive. It also pays to enable the 'Autosave' function in MS-Word, this will save all alterations to the document and provide date order 'previous versions' if this happens again......which we all hope it won't.

Aside from these suggestions - it unfortunately looks like it's a lesson hard learned.

You can try using a file recovery program like Recuva (free, works decently, no crap)...if you saved the file as the default .docx extension just search for .docx in the search and restore any files of that type, preferably to another drive or removable storage. Unfortunately I think you'll find that the file name still exist of the old document but the data integrity is lost because word points the new file to write over parts of the old one rather than using new space.

Maybe this just sounds like gibberish, but even if you take the drive to a so called recovery expert they will just do the same shit and say you're out of luck.

Ugh I have no suggestions but this happened to me TWICE in the past. One was a 30 page paper for graduate school due on Monday (and this was Thursday it did it). The second was a music database I spent 5 months working on. Never recovered either but did redo the 30 page paper that weekend. Not much fun spending all weekend doing it and not being able to go on a date that I was looking forward to. The database I just redid a few years later and made sure I saved three places (my pc, external hard drive and email).

Using is the proper decision for such issues. The program provides high level of quality due to its modern step-by-step wizard, low system requirements. The application allowing to show the recovered items as a table view.
