I love my own natural hair, but I don't flaunt my curls at work! I like to go for completely unique/different hair styles. My wig collection is comparable to cher's.

I thought half wigs were a miracle until lace wigs were invented, lol.

I'm glad this thread is still alive!

Hair update: So I've been transitioning...and I must say, I'm at the point where managing two textures is unbearable! I am going to cut my hair, but am interested in wearing wigs & such ITC until my hair grows to a length I'm comfy with.

But question...for my wig wearers, how in the heck do you get the wig to stay on while dancing??? I've worn tracks before, but not a full-out wig. And Mia, with clip ins do you just like clip pieces (or a big piece) of hair in with your natural hair? I just googled it, but would like to hear from you as well regarding how you go about doing it.

    Thanks ladies

Lol. I texturized my hair a couple of months ago thinking it would loosen my curls and it ended up straightening my hair. I tried dealing with the 2 textures but i couldn't take it. I just did a big chop for the second time. N-e-ways for halfwigs, full wigs, and lace fronts I would cornrow my hair and wear a wig cap. Then for halfwigs and full wigs I would use the front comb and then secure the sides with bobbypins. For lacefronts I used the 2sided tape and sometimes secure the side with boobypins.

muffinismylovers on youtube is the bomb when it comes to wigs.

I love when black women rock the natural hair! A girl at my work has the most amazaing afro and she does something called a "co wash" with Suave conditioner and also uses these really yummy products from Carol's Daughter.

I did the big chop around 2 years ago.

I love my natural hair, it's growing so fast!

I always wear wigs for work and keep my lovely napturals for outside of work.

Naptural85 on Youtube has some of the best styling vids, worth checking them out.

I have always had natural hair but I got a lot of heat damage.....which is why I did the Big Chop last month. I am not personally wearing my natural hair out...I am wearing weaves because I don't ever want to got through such damage again! I would suggest that you do protective styles because once your hair is damaged from daily styling it's not reversible.

My leave out is sooo short due to straightening/blending! It's like 5 inches long... This heat is killing me.

I just cut all of my hair off in October, my leave out is like 2 1/2 inches! You can't tell at all because I do the invisible part with a very small strip of leave out just to lay over the invisible part. It works so well I can use ANY type of hair and it will blend perfectly (less hair to straighten). You should try it.

I personally am natural. But do I wear my "natural hair" to work yes and no.

My hair is naturally curly and just past shoulder length so I wear curly 18 inch weaves with some of my hair out so its alot easier to pass as my own.

However, I work in the DMV, DC-Maryland-Virginia area and LOTS of girls at my last club wore their locs, because that's something that's accepted here but even in Atlanta when I worked there there were lots of gorgeous top-earning girls who wore locs also..

I think it has to do with HOW well you maintain them and make them sexy.

^Is there like a demo or something on YouTube like Addison said?

I've been rocking full wigs for now.

As for my natural hair, I'm vowing to keep heat faaaar away from it for a long time. I killed my hair w/all the flat ironing & creamy crack :-( But now it's looking healthy and growing at a steady rate

Waaaait! Before you do, try using Aphogee Keratin Green Tea Restructurizer. That stuff is AMAZING. I spray it on generously and it rebuilds the hair so there's gradually no trouble with blowing out and straightening. I do a Dominican Blowout and it has the softness and flexibility of a perm. I think the dominican blowout looks 10x better than a perm/relaxer ever will. The hair looks so much more healthy, shiny, and soft like Optimist said.

bumping the thread i've been natural since december 07 and i normally didn't wear my natural hair to the club, until like my last month i was there. i wore a braided frohawk and i still made okay money. i'm thinking that the afro-curly weaves i wore were better for the club though. i hate dealing with my hair in the winter so i've been wearing senegalese twists, lace fronts and half-wigs. i'm not really a fan of how straight hair looks on me, so i am ALWAYS rocking curls lol. so when i go back to work i will continue to rock curly weaves/lace fronts.

actually i saw a tutorial on youtube to make my own u-part wig and i would leave my hair out on on the top.

my cousin's gf sells virgin brazilian hair for a reasonable rate so after i get a practice wig in, i'm definitely going to invest.

Lol, guess I'm the only one still using the creamy crack? I've learned to deal/maintain my hair so that it doesn't look overly damaged. Just because you're natural doesn't mean your hair is automatically healthy. I stretch my perms out OD, currently at about 4 months? Don't want another until the summer so I can get a partial 20 inch sew in or something. I'm about to get a blac chyna weave put in. I tried the au naturale route and I couldn't deal. My hair is past shoulder length and healthy (considering it is chemically processed, no major damage, split ends, frizz). Maintenance is key.

No I'm right there with you, my hair has definatly grown out more relaxed than it has natural.

lol this is not a natural vs relaxed debate. obviously the majority of black women choose to permanently change their hair texture, but many of us do not. maintenance is the key with any hair texture or style. many black women experience problems natural because we are not properly educated on how to take care of our hair. i honestly can't even go to a decent black hair salon that knows how to deal with natural hair. how is it that you're a professional and you don't know how to deal with the hair that grows out of someone's head???

most people don't even know what their natural hair looks like outside of the new growth in between perms because we've been relaxing our hair since age 6 or 7. i can understand the frustrations with going natural, because taking care of natural hair vs relaxed is completely different. i wouldn't say it's harder, it just takes getting used to. i know several ladies who have back to waist-length hair who are not mixed. the issue here is not hair growth, it's length retention.

Just to add what Ms Diddy wrote, some bum on twitter was talking junk about BW not taking care of their hair and being pretty slanderous. I checked her and made her realize not everyone has had the education to take care of their hair properly. Hell, aren't most of us learning new things all the time? Can't stand people like that, they are no different than racist ignorant types.

I remember going to get my hair braided in micros, and the witch was upset my hair was not permed. If I wasn't so scared she might pull on my scalp or something devious out of spite I would have sarcastically apologized for going to an AFRICAN hair shop with natural hair. Bitch.

Most so called professionals know nothing of natural hair of any race, nothing but to alter their hair. Over 65% of Americans... Black, white, Latina, whatever are curly girls. Asians are the only people who have the straightest hair in the world, that means that everyone else has some type of curl or wave pattern to their hair. But you wouldn't know that because about 99% of women alter their hairs natural texture because they don't want the hassle of dealing with it and the end result equals damage or eventually hair loss. So it's not a black thing nor issue. It's a woman's issue.
