Some clubs have hiring quotas in regards to certain race, height, weight and number of girls per shift. Other clubs have a rule that girls may only audition on certain days of the week, have to do an amateur contest before getting hired, or may only begin working slow nights or day shift. I've seen all of the above and any combination of the above.
Hopefully you have other clubs in your area you can try out at, or can try other managers and shifts at that club.
- Seeing what type of club it is and what city you are in can give you an idea if you may run into problems as a black girl or not; there are a number of white clubs where hiring is still racist; sadly speaking. The same also holds true if you are a little curvier like me, I have to do the same thing to catch those clubs that want their women weighing 105 soaking wet, as I'd never get into any of them weighing in around 130 most of the time.
- Trying to reach the manager on the phone may occasionally work and asking what their audition requirements are may help. Be aware in some clubs you cannot reach the manager at any time, other places you may get lucky on a slow weeknight. If you can't get a manager, ask what shifts they have, and who manages them, and when they hold auditions. Most door girls at least know that.
- Auditioning or coming in on slow weekday nights is best; Mondays and Tuesdays are spectacular, as are Sundays in some areas. I've gotten in a place before because they had zilch for girls that night and I happened to be there ready to work, then wowed them with my hustling ability the first night.
- When talking to a manager let them know that you are reliable and that you are looking to work all types of nights, not just on the busy ones.. many managers like hearing that you won't just be another one of those he or she has to fight with to come in Sunday through Wednesday.
- Hit two clubs a night if you can per night on the slow nights. Trying to squeeze in more than two places leaves you frazzled and doing only one may leave you without a dancing gig for too long. It also makes it possible that you CAN possibly agree to work the night you audition, if you do so on a slow day that's often possible and encouraged.
- Be a great conversationalist when you meet with the manager; many managers like more than just a pretty face. I've landed a few dancing jobs by that alone; by being able to converse more than just smiling and saying "wanna dance". In fact, in about half the places I worked I avoided auditioning all together with a nice, warm, customer service, professional approach upon meeting the managers.
If the first round does not prove successful, try other shifts, wait two weeks and repeat or even try to be hired as a waitress or shot girl to begin with. Good luck.
