Default Consequences to lying on a college application?

I recently relocated to a new state and the college I applied to is a much farther distance than I had anticipated. I would like to apply to 2 other schools closer to me.

The kicker is one of my previous schools take a very long time to send out transcripts and I know I would not receive it before the semester starts and there is hardly any time left to apply.

The other school may get the transcript there in time, but I dropped out so my GPA is abysmal. I don't understand why it's even necessary after all that time, I'm just applying to community college for the time being.

What could happen if I just leave it off the new application? I have been out of school for 9 years, so I won't even be able to use the credits for the classes I did complete.

I'm guessing the only way they would know is if they look at my past FAFSA record, which was back in 02/03. Do community colleges usually do that?

I highly doubt a community college is going to deny your application because of low gpa. As far as i know they don't deny ANY applications.

Don't lie on your application. It could possibly come back to cause problems for you down the road. If you apply for financial aid the new college will definitely find out about your prior schools.

Depending on the school you are applying to, you might get credit for the classes you've taken at other colleges but you'll need the transcripts for that.

Community colleges have fairly open admission policies. Try to talk to an admissions counselor at the college and they should tell you everything you need for that particular school. If you get admitted without the transcripts you should be able to still have them evaluated later to see if you can get credit for any of your previous classes.

No need to lie on a Community College application. They accept pretty much everyone.

^ Agreed. You could have flunked out of like ten colleges and a community college would probably accept you. Hell, I had three semesters in a row that I dropped out of, two at a community college and one at a four-year university, and only a few years later, both the community college AND the four-year university accepted me back, no problem.

People drop out of school all the time, for all sorts of reasons, from sheer laziness to really serious problems. Most schools understand this, and are willing to give you additional chances, especially if you're older.

I wouldn't worry. I attended one college for a semester but due to severe bullying I got poor grades and dropped out. I've never put this college on other school applications and it's never come up. I too could never use the transfer credits anyway except for one class but it was a class where I had work experience so I used that instead. If it's never come up for me for grad school applications I don't think it'll come up for you.

    Did you use FAFSA Kelly?

I'm not worried about the GPA, I just know they wont get both transcripts in time for me to register. Waiting until next semester will bum me out.

At the same time, getting expelled or suspended will be even worse....I will go down there tomorrow and make an on the spot decision.
