Default Birth Control without weight gain !!

I used to take Diane 35, which worked amazing because I have oily skin and get pimples - (always had skin problems/oily skin for 20+ yrs). However my DR told me she can't prescribe Diane 35 anymore and I had to switch pills. I tried about 3 pills (Celeste, Yasmine, and another one - can't remember the name.) Celeste worked best for my skin, but it also adds the weight, about 8lbs. I work out hard and can't see the results.

I'm thinking of quitting the pill, I'm not seeing anyone so I don't need it. Do you guys have any suggestions for my skin problems? I have oily skin and scalp and it runs in my family.

This has been mentioned about 1000x on this board thanks to Charlie whose helped lots of girls including me ... spironolactone. You actually lose weight on it (or at least most of us did). Its not a birth control pill and it actually causes birth defects so you cant get pregnant while on it, but I took it for maybe a year without birth control and just used condoms. Do a search on here and youll hear all the praises about it.

Also, Yaz BirthControl - which I don't know if you've tried - is basically the same as Yasmin, but with a small amount of Spironolactone in it. It helped my skin tremendously, and didn't cause terrible weight gain, but I did get headaches for the first few months.

If you're determined to go off the pill, I would suggest:
    -Increasing your water intake
    -Changing your Pillowcase frequently
-Start watching your hair/body products to make sure they're not causing breakouts (some conditioners, shampoos, lotions etc can)
-Wear a hairnet to bed (I do this, it's dorky but it helps keep hair off my face)
-Start a new skincare rigime, introducing new products one at a time. I use the dermalogica line of products. They're pricey but I find they work really well (Unlike Clean&Clear, Proactive, blah blah).
-Learn how to properly wash, dry and tone your face with as little friction as possible. Aggrivating the skin tends to make my acne worse.
-I take a vitamin D supplament, and it seems to be helping my skin too.

I've heard cutting out certian food groups will help with pimples, but Charlie can elaborate on that better than I can. I've never been successful for more than a few months at a time at elminiating Gluten, dairy, processed foods.

I'm really out of the loop on oral contraceptives because I don't take them, but I have never heard of Diane 35. Did your doctor tell you why she can no longer prescribe it? Does it have to do with the FDA or big pharma incentives (I'm wondering).

I had the Depo shot at one point in my life and I didn't gain any weight or have any acne. As far as skin care, I'd have to agree with @4everresolutions's tips. Water intake, changing my pillowcase frequently, keeping my hands and hair products off my face, and properly washing your face. Everyone's skin is different and what may work for you may not work for me. The popular skin care regimens sold at stores cause breakouts for me so I don't use them. So I stick with my mild soap, witch hazel, and shea butter or some sort of natural oil. My skin care regimen is very simple.

I was on Diane ages ago, back when I was about 11 or 12, when it first came out for Acne. I thought it was taken off the market 5 years ago...

New here, but thought I would chime in on the BC. I took Depo for 3 years, I gained a total of 80lbs. 2 out of 3 women will have ALL of the side effects. I was one of the 2. Be vary careful if you decide to do the shot, it made me hungry ALL the time! I would eat a meal, then be hungry like 5 mins later. It was ridiculous. If anything, check out the IUD's those are usually better for no weight gain, though I don't know too much about the acne problems. I use Clean n Clear Advantage, and that seems to take care of any breakouts that I have.

Someone else mentioned Depo shot and the IUD.

I didn't gain weight on Depo and I always sing it's praises. I'd suggest trying depo for 1-2 shots (3-6 months) and monitor your weight, along with your diet/exercise habits (ie monitor your weight but don't blame depo if you gain while also eating more and exercising less)

I love DEPO but I started to suspect my bones were thinning, which is the biggest and most dangerous symptom, so I switched to MIRENA IUD (not to be confused with the other kind which sucks) The FDA only approves depo for 2 years and I wouldn't stay on it longer due to bone thinning issues. Depo and Mirena both drasitically lighten or eliminate periods, which is kinda awesome. I almost never had bloating or cramps on them.

Someone else mentioned a treatment just to deal with your skin problems. I'd suggest the same, see a dermatologist, not a gyno, about this! Yes, you'll have to take 2 different things, but it's probably worth the trouble.

I also HIGHLY recommend the IUD, if you get it be absolutely sure you get MIRENA, which is the low hormone IUD. It causes light or nonexistent periods and is effective for 5 years, but if you wanna try to get pregnant you can take it out early.

My bottom line; depo provera, if you don't like it, IUD, combined with dermatologist solution to your skin problem.

Ive got an IUD (mirena) and love it. I dont have to worry about birth control for 5 years. It also made my periods very light and over time got rid of them. I use that and retinal-A creme for my skin. The combo work well together.

I have an IUD too (the copper one - I can't tolerate hormonal birth control), and I love it.

Besides the convenience - it lasts up to 10 years!! - I don't have any of the side effects associated with hormonal birth control. Also, it was about $600 at Planned Parenthood. Kind of pricey for an initial investment, but that's all I'll have to spend on BC for 10 years.

I've heard people say that it's not recommended for either women who've had kids or who haven't had kids (I forget what the rumor is), but either way it isn't true. Both my sister and I have it - she had kids and I didn't - and we both love it. Neither of us has had any issues.

Like some of the other girls I have an IUD - mine is copper. Perhaps if you got a birth control such as this you could then deal with your acne without having to wonder if the birth control pills are helping or hindering your skin. Personally, I still get pimples. Sugar doesn't help and neither does the occasional picking session, but I use Refissa Retin-A by Obagi and this helps quite a bit.

I've been really interested in a copper IUD, but I've heard so many horror stories about the pain of insertion and the devices not working for women who haven't had kids (because they fall out). Ugh...maybe I'm just being a baby

^^^ That's the rumor I was talking about. I haven't had kids, and have never had this issue. I've had mine for 4 years. I know other women w/o kids that are just fine with their copper IUDs. Maybe this has happened to a few women out there, but it's not like IUDs are falling out of childless women all over the place.

As for the insertion, it was uncomfortable, but I wouldn't say it was that painful. It didn't bring tears to my eyes or anything. For a few hours after, I felt like I had menstrual cramps, and the next day it was fine. If you're worried you could take a pain reliever (like Advil, Aleve, or ... whatever works for you) before you go in.

I guess it sounds like I'm trying to sell the thing or something.

I was just very happy with mine, and I after I got it, I wondered why I waited so long.

I couldn't say mine was painful either. It's for sure strange to feel poking around in there, but it's over very quickly. I experienced heavier than normal periods for the first 6 months, which is normal. Stronger cramps too. Everything returns to normal after about 1/2 a year. The only thing that may have to be adjusted after the fact are the "strings" that hand down from the device. They are two, floss-like strings that you can reach up and feel to ensure your IUD is still sitting in your uterus where it was initially placed. After placement some women opt to have their strings cut shorter (closer to the cervix)so they don't hang as low into the vaginal canal.

first 2 weeks of having the IUD were extremely painfull. stock up on pain meds and THC (w33d) before getting it inserted.

Retin-A is the bomb diggity. It even tightens your skin and helps get rid of small wrinkles like crow's feet. Its considered a cheap alternative to Botox. Retin-A would like peel my face off (gross for about 3 days) and reveal soft, pimple/blemish-free, baby soft skin afterwards.

As far as birth control, I stay skinny even though I don't work out, but I am using something called Implanon. It is a small implant the size of a match stick implanted in my arm, not visible and no scar except for a itty bitty tiny dot (can't really see it) where it was inserted, lasts three years, when times up they slip it out and slip another one in. Pretty cool unless you have irregular periods.
