Default Stripping with a fresh tattoo

I'm getting one of my tattoos touched up next week. I work in a pretty high contact area, and due to the size and location of my tattoo (from my shoulder blade down my ribs and ending at my hip), it's not really feasible to make sure customers don't touch it while I'm giving them dances. I'll still be warning customers to be gentle and try and avoid touching the tattoo, but it's sort of inevitable that it'll come into contact with people and things in the club. I also don't particularly want to walk around with a giant bandage or plastic wrap taped down my side

I was just wondering how much time I should give it before going back in to work? I figure going in the next evening is pretty out of the question (although it's one of my regular shifts so I would like to lol), but I'm wondering how much longer I should hold off working? Is a week enough time? Longer? Shorter?

I had my wrist and neck tattooed when I was stripping actively (already had my hips and ankle done beforehand) and I just let customers know ahead of time not to touch it and to keep clear of the area. Tell customers not to touch it and enforce it...that is an invitation for germs and infection otherwise. You could be permanently disfigured if your tattoo gets an infection and doesn't heal properly.

If you can afford to, I'd take 1-2 weeks off since it's just a touch up (it depends on how fast you heal and how much is actually getting touched up). Ideally you want to be completely healed (i.e. scab has fallen off completely). If you can't take any time off then emphasize to customers that they cannot touch your tattoo and be very diligent about watching them. If the guy seems grabby to begin with or is very drunk then just don't dance for him. If you need to, give more of an air dance. You'll find out very quickly which positions are best to prevent or restrict contact with your tattoo and a customer.

    I hope this helps!

I'm getting the whole tattoo touched up/shaded in, so it's quite the expansive area and a pretty basic one for being touched.

I can definitely take the week off (it works out quite conveniently since I was planning on taking most of that time off anyway due to a long weekend + going out of town), but not sure about two. For the second week, I'll just follow your advice on being diligent about touching and dance moves. I figure since it's a tattoo, customers will able to clearly see and (hopefully) understand why they can't touch.

If you can take the week off that's what I would do. No more than that, but honestly, working with fresh ink is hell.

button down sweater/shirt (nothing 'fuzzy' that will stick to your tattoo) + unbutton + leave on will protect your tattoo from contact with the stage/pole... leave a few buttons at the bottom done during lap dances to prevent guys from trying to put hands under the shirt to touch your waist/explain why they can't if they try.

Did it for my back... worked out lovely.

    Desu, that's a great idea!

I waited a week for each of my tattoos. I had my foot done, and a week was enough time for it heal up enough for me to work again (although I had to be careful about which shoes I wore!).

I went to work the same day after getting a tattoo. i worked at a no contact club. Anyways, really bad idea and the color didn't set like it should have. The tattoo artist had given me the green light to return back to work.

the sweater thing sounds like a good idea. and also warning the guys before dancing. just watch out for drunk guys trying to be funny. a few years ago i got a tat on my wrist. its not very large, but its on the sensitive, thin inner arm skin over my veins. anyway, i came into work and saw one of the club regulars and showed it to him to try to strike up a conversation. bad idea, because he was very drunk. when he saw it he without warning slapped the shit out of the area, and said, 'thats not real, its too shiny'. hurt like hell, but luckily he made up for it and i didnt have any damage.

Brilliant idea, thank you! I was just thinking about how lame my stage set was going to be if I was being super careful with the tattoo, but that solves it.

Definitely wait the first week before going in, and then just be careful - the sweater is a fantastic idea!!

Let me put my artist hat on for a minute...: )

OK - there are two stages of healing, each with a specific risk for contact clubs.

When it is fresh, and the scabs have not fully formed, then having dirty guys pawing at your with their germy, grimy hands is an infection waiting to happen. Ugh. Ew.
After the scabs have formed, you are no longer at the same risk of infection, but if they paw at you and drag the scabs off, you will be left with a little patch of lighter ink or bare skin in the tattoo.
SO wait until the scabs are fully formed, and then be careful about telling customers not to touch that area. If you are in a contact club, I would actually guide their hands to the other side, legs, arms, or wherever there is no scabbing!

I always have a tattoo healing (seriously - I am working on my legs, so I do a couple hours in my free time every other week...I haven't had a long soak in a bath for about a year!!!) and when I was in the clubs I always waited at least a week when work was on my arms or torso. I started waiting a week or longer after I had background shading put in over my entire sleeve - the whole damn arm was still a little raw - and some drunk ASShole came in and started grabbing and stroking my arm asking who did my work - even after I told him not to touch, he was so drunk that he just kept grabbing the top of my arm, and RUBBING this fresh tattoo. It is one of about five or six times that I have lost my temper entirely, screamed, swore and physically pushed someone away. And then left for the night. GRRRRRRR
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

I've gone to work just having done portions of my sleeves worked on and there have been times when I've waited a week. I highly recommend the later. Inevitably customers always touch, the tattoo rubs on dirty furniture or you touch it with hands that are not freshly washed (it's impossible not to!). All that potentially leads to color drop out, scarring, scabbing (which leads to loss of color), or in my case a staph infection. I'm not saying I caught staph from work necessarily but I should never have gone to work with a fresh tattoo.
