Sad hair regrowth after waxing...is this what it's supposed to be like?

I have only given myself a bikini wax twice and have never had it done by someone else. The first time I only did a little on the sides but recently I removed a lot more, so I have a lot more hair growing back now. Some of it is finer than before like I expected, but the majority of it is stubbly...WTF???

I thought all of the regrowth was supposed to start coming in finer because if you remove it from the root the first part to break the skin is the thin, tapered top of the hair. Instead, it feels sort of like I shaved and it looks terrible. Is this normal? From everything I read I wouldn't have thought so. But I used a hard wax and I took care to apply it in the direction of hair growth and pull it back in the opposite direction - plus, I checked the wax after removal and could see that the roots of the hairs had been pulled out too. And even if some had broken and hadn't been fully removed, it couldn't have been as many as I see growing back as stubble now.

Anyone else have this problem? Or were my expectations too high?

Ugh! I spent two years getting a monthly Brazilian wax (all bald) for my boyfriend and we broke up 8 months ago so I've let it ALL grow out (still not wanting to get back in the game but this IS the longest time I've gone without sex LOL). So now, my pubic hair that was soft and curly is now....STRAIGHT! And looks weird! I think it's permanently messed up so when I get back "out there" again, I'll bikini wax (who needs the sides EVER) and seriously TRIM the landing strip-scissors, shave, just NOT WAX.

^^^What she said, if you cannot afford it, you could also pluck, i found out that when you pluck the hair grows thinner.
