DISCLAIMER!
This thread is not to discuss body shapes, hiring standards, or anything that have to do with physique or dancing ability, but hiring procedures/practices in general.
In my single year of dancing I've tried many clubs, and they all had have different hiring procedures. Some of the procedures I've encountered:
-Amateur nights ONLY; whether you win or not. The manager may have liked you, but you just didn't get enough cheers from the crowd is good enough.
-Show up on a weekday afternoon to file an application and wait to be call for an audition (as if I was working on a retail store!).
-Same as number two, but auditioning that very same day. If hired, either; put on a "stand by" list for fill ups or busy nights for a few weeks/months, put on day shift, or put on a schedule that starts about a week after being hired. If not hired, having the manager telling you why, and if a second audition in the future is possible. Ah, you (the dancer) cannot make the schedule, but the manager!
-Come to the club, manager takes a quick look at you, gives you paper work to fill out, tells you to get ready, and put on schedule for that very same week; some clubs lets you choose the days/hours, some don't.
-"We're not hiring".
Any other hiring procedures/practices?
What experiences you may have had with any of the above, or one not mentioned above?
And, I wanna know why so different?! Isn't it supposed to be "great body+not enough dancers=hired"?
I've noticed bigger, upscale clubs have been very easy for me to get hired, but smaller, neighborhood-type clubs have been tougher to get in, or just not able to be hired at all. But, everyone had have different experiences.
