I wouldn't reccomend Miami, or anywhere in Florida.

It sounds fun. Make sure you have a trusty car.

Can't offer any advice club wise, but I've done several road trips so maybe I should type up some road-trippin' advice.

Find out in advance about any licensing needs and determine if it'll be worth it or not. It would suck to go all the way to a city only to find out you can't dance without one.

Pack good travel food, pack bottle water with some of those low cal flavor things, have a gas can that closes up tightly and in a secure place so it will not roll around. I want to take one but I'm waiting til I have a better car. I love road trips and sometimes having a place to sleep in the back when your not working is better than a nasty and maybe creepy hotel... I know there is a thread around here that had some really great tips for road trips.

I used to do road trips all the time. However, in order for road trips to actually be profitable ( versus simply staying 'home' and dancing at local clubs ) it's absolutely essential that you 'do your homework' to maximize income potential and minimize expenses. This typically means ...'

    - driving not flying ! Air fare to get there and cab fare after you get there are far more expensive than driving your own vehicle

    - advance 'bookings' via e-mail with clubs in the cities you plan to travel to. Every day that you're on the road you're racking up expenses for food and lodging ... so you need to be set up in advance to arrive at a club and start earning money immediately. Not having advance 'bookings', i.e. simply 'showing up' and hoping to get hired immediately, involves major financial risk.

    - cities requiring dancers' licenses involve risk / trade-off, because getting the license is going to A. require the better part of a day plus a significant amount of money out of pocket to actually get the license ( probably meaning a day that you won't be earning money in a club ), and B. creates a public record of your having been a 'stripper' which may or may not have future repurcussions. IMHO cities with major earnings potential that require dancers' licenses like Vegas and Atlanta are worth the 'investment' of time and money needed to get the licenses, but other cities with lesser earnings potential may not be worth it.

    - agreed with previous poster that taking a cooler and supermarket food with you versus relying on restaurant food is a major help in reducing expenses. So is attempting to make 'discount' hotel deals directly with the local hotel manager for a full week etc.

    - one somewhat unique issue since you are a California resident is the fact that both the IRS and the CAL FTB are going to tax the dancing earnings from all of the states you 'visit' ... on top of potential taxes by ( some of ) the states you 'visit'. So it's extremely important that you keep accurate 'books' and receipts documenting ALL of your earnings and ALL of your expenses while on the road.

Just a personal opinion, but after many road trips I found that the most 'effective' trip length was three weeks. I would make a 'loop' of three different cities ( dancing for one week each ), and return home to take the fourth week 'off' ... which actually meant catching up on 'real life' requirements like paying bills, shopping for the next road trip, R&R, workouts / diet etc.

Where the distances between cities was longer, I have stretched road trips to 6 weeks ( dancing in 3 cities for ~2 weeks each) in order to 'average down' the time and money lost driving hundreds of miles between cities. But in those 6 week situations I inevitably found myself running short of 'energy' ( which hurt income potential ), getting 'lazy' about expenses discipline ( which meant too much money spent on restaurant food, buying too many items locally at high prices that I was running out of, etc. ), as well as taking a physical toll ( weight gain, eyes looking like 2 'pissholes in the snow' etc. ) that also hurt income potential during the last couple of weeks of the 6 week road trip. And of course returning 'home' after 6 weeks on the road inevitably involved yet more time lost getting back in shape, playing catch-up with overdue bills etc.

You only live once, if anything it will clear your head and keep your hustle fresh, the licence-ing you Americans have to go through sounds like a MAJOR pain in the ass!
Would you arrange your trip for the downtime at your club? or for conventions etc in the locations you're looking at?

I agree with the poster above, don't go to Miami. It's infamously hard to make money, crawling w/ extras & prostitution, VERY expensive, hot, and WAY at the bottom of the state (like, it's way closer to Cuba than to Georgia, the state is 400 miles long and 11 hrs from Atlanta) so it takes a lot of time and gas $ to drive there.

I live and work in Miami. Above is true. Prostitution is totally 'okay' with management at the two clubs I've been at. I don't participate so I've never come home with more than 600 dollars. It makes me sad because I feel like I'm working at a brothel. Men (especially Cubans) really don't believe you when you're telling them you are not a prostitute..... they seriously dont see the difference between a dancer and a prostitute.

As far as money goes apparently its the 'slow' season because its hot as fuck everywhere so no reason for tourists or snowbirds to be down here. Hopefully things get better in the fall.
I wish I could take a road trip.

    Okay, I'm more awake now.
Please remember, these are MY experiences. Each girl who gives advice has her vey own opinion.
fyi: my road trip was same time frame as yours

Dallas: If you are comfortable with lots of two way contact, where the dance consists more of a guy groping your boobs for a song, work at Babydolls. Management is very Laissez Faire and money can be good. Traffic can be nuts and the interstates are more of a knotted plate of spaghetti with crazy ass drivers, so be careful.

New Orleans: The money there SUCKED for me, but the experience still made this my favorite. You need a certain kind of hustle to work well there. I am normally a high mid-level to top earner, but there I was bottom of the rung. I worked at Barely Legal, which is a very nice club with dances ranging from average price up to a $2000+ champagne room with a bed. The other clubs there looked very nice, but Hustler was kinda rude when I went to check it out. If you are planning on staying in a hotel, a cheap one I stayed at, within walking distance of most of the cool stuff, was the Queen and Crescent: http://www.neworleansboutiquehotels.com/

Miami: I wouldn't work there. I'd recommend a city in Florida closer to the north so the drive isn't so far. And like Dallas, most clubs are closer to brothel status than anything else. Maybe look into Alabama?

I can recommend Phoenix and Albuquerque. I know they weren't on your itinerary, but Money is steadily good there, I experienced very few bad nights, unlike Dallas and New Orleans, which was very hit and miss for me and rarely made over $200/night (less in NO).

Driving is cheaper. Stick to the southern states like you plan, because I took a pass from Northern California into Utah, and OMFG it was awful. I also took I-70 from Colorado to NY several times, and I-75 from Florida north, and the weather was soooo bad it wreaked havoc on my nerves and my SUV.

Keep a kit in your car for emergencies-first aid, flashlight, utility knife, tire change kit, Jumper Cables, and a blanket and some non-perishables like an MRE or granola bars or something. You just never know.

Write or print out directions. GPS systems can lose signal.

Travelodge, Motel 6, and Microtels are all pretty cheap and frequently offer weekly rates. Priceline and Hotwire can also help you save $ and can get you into some nice hotels for cheap.

Call ahead to the clubs you want to work at to see if they are hiring traveling dancers, and if they want you to audition in person or if you can send some photos and if so, what types of photos.

Licenses can show up-so if that's a problem, don't work where you need one (Phoenix you do, Dallas requires background checks but Euliss doesn't, etc). Sometimes you can work in a suburb of a metroplex which doesn't require licenses, but still be near the city.

Have a cooler and get rooms with a fridge and microwave. It'll save tons of costs of food, and have a can opener. Bring along a plate, bowl, spoon and fork to save space on dishes. Dish soap and laundry detergent, as well, so you can wash stuff. You can wash your dancer thongs in the sink or shower after work, and some motels even have guest laundry facilites. Many also have a "mini fitness center", which normally has a treadmill or bike. Weekly costs of gyms gets EXPENSIVE.

Have you checked out CouchSurfing? I know some people who did/do this, and it saved them tons of money in travel costs. Or maybe campgrounds.

I tried working California (La and san Francisco). The only thing that happened was I realized I had it awesome in Jersey, so we just said, "lets go home" and drove straight back in 3 days.

The next thing I did was buy a house. That's when anyone with a pulse could get a mortgage. Look at me now, I'm the one who still has my house while everyone else got foreclosed on.

When I lived in Sf, I worked in Atlanta. Granted this was '06, but I made enough in 10 days to go home and fuck off the rest of the month. My old hustle buddy says my home club is still very good. Above all else, dancing in ATL is FUN. Permit for DeKalb county is $350 a year.

You would do well in New Orleans with your look, especially since you have no tattoos (am I right?) you will have hella options. NOLA is good Sept until April. Summer is dismal so don't bother. Try Ricks Cabaret, Penthouse and Barely Legal. All you need is an ID and your social security card to work.

Travel is something that everyone should do, especially while you're young. I'd say condense it down to 2 or 3 cities and go from there.

I travel all over the country to dance. I live in fl but only work here occasionally. I've worked in new york , chicago, dallas, vagas, denver, new orleans, baltimore, parts of new england, myrtle beach and reno. I work in mostly gown clubs with a more upper echelon clientele. Chicago and ny and vegas you have to be 21 and those cities offer the highest earning potential in my opinion. Myrtle beach may be an option for you if you go in march or april which are high golf season or oct , nov. March and april are better but of you are a top earner(girls come from all over the country to work golf season because it's huge money) you will bank. Same with new orleans during conventions-events. I make a little more in myrtle( beacause they take way less of your money but both offer consistent earnings. Four day trips aren't worth it unless you're working in manhattan( I only stay 5 days here) I fly everywere except myrtle beach because that's the only place I stay more than 7-10 days like most my trips.
