Default What happens when a dancer gets hurt?

I have heard strip club stories where the dancers get hurt, and I was wondering if the club, the stripper or the customer takes care of the bill.

    1. A pole dancer slips and hurts herself
    2. A customer gets hurt by a falling pole dancer
    3. A customer messing around on the rails falls on a dancer (heard that last night from the hurt dancer as she was leaving)

I know if the railing or something in the club breaks and hurts a customer/dancer then the club pays, but I'm wondering about the dancer <-> customer and occupational hazard issues.

The club has insurance for this sort of thing, or at least should.

the club doesnt pay for it. we are on our own.

if a customer hurt me, i would expect him to pay. if a dude goes to a strip club and acts like a jackass and it results in us being injured and out of work, they should compensate us.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

True. I meant about a customer being injured. Not about us. They don't give a rats ass about us.

Customer sues dancer. Customer wins. Customer might also try to sue club, not sure how well that would work out. Club might settle and also go after dancer then.

    3. A customer messing around on the rails falls on a dancer (heard that last night from the hurt dancer as she was leaving)
Dancer will ask customer for money, or take him to court. Dancer will probably not win, even if injuries are severe.
Isn't that nice to think about?

For #3, the girl looked hurt enough to leave early. Heard the Customer had decent cash so maybe he'll take care of her instead of being a dick. I'll look for her the next time I go... Just hope she doesn't try to guilt me into VIP again.

For #2, I've been elbowed in the head (owch) by a dancer struggling with clothes.

Yeah, I don't feel bad that you were elbowed in the head at all - the risk you take for crowding perverts row. Perhaps next time you shouldn't lean in so close. Dancers do need to extend their limbs from time to time.

If you dance in Indiana, and are hurt on the job in a strip club, you are covered by workers compensation. If the club has not been paying the premiums, you get double damages. To the best of my knowledge, no other state has yet extended workers compensation by law to dancers as a group. However, most dancers do meet the definition of employee in most states and thus should be covered. Of course, the club will tell you otherwise.

The normal principles of tort should apply. Since entertainers are usually independant contractors, they are probably not covered under the establishments workmans comp insurance.

In many states at this point, that is not the case, and we're still not covered.

Being in the insurance business I would say that the person at fault should pay. Legally the term is called restitution.

Once again, you people are applying real world rules/laws here and that's simply not the way it actually works.

^Yeah, I'm with JT - in an ideal world the 'person at fault' would pay and there would be some kind of compensation....but the reality of it is we'd be up shit creek without any aide.

Uhh, no. In 16 years I have never once heard of a club contributing anything to a hurt stripper's expenses. Making the girls independent contractors means they don't have to keep worker's comp insurance or anything like that. Their contracts also include clauses releasing the clubs from any liability should a stripper get hurt at work. So basically, when a stripper gets hurt on the job, she's fucked.

Also there is a reason a lot of clubs (Deja Vu anyone?) prefer younger strippers. Less experience = less likely to sue, stand up for herself, or otherwise "cause trouble" for the club.

This is why I recommend strippers:

    1. Don't go nuts w the pole tricks, they seldomly make you more money. Perfect a few key moves and focus on drawing the customers in using other methods like pretending to make individual eye contact

    2. Know your stages, know your floors. Each club has a stage that is slippery, some dings in the floor that can trip you up. Get to know those areas and take appropriate action.

    3. Many will disagree but I think heels higher than 7" are dangerous. I've seen so many girls fall in 8 inch + heels, its not pretty. But that just might be me, I was never comfortable w anything above 7.

    4. Don't get too drunk at work, self-explanatory

    5. Test out your shoes to make sure they are not about to break, and have a spare.

I have learned ALL of the above the hard way, through experience and injury. I hope this helps some girls because I've never known of a club to ever do jackshit for their dancers if they got hurt.

    1) In most cases she's out of luck. Like mentioned clubs don't care if we don't get hurt. We are expendable.

2)I assume this guy was sitting on the stage? Depending on the situation he could sue for damages or at least ask for hospitalization. However he gets hurt because of his own fault he's out of luck.

3)What in the hell was he doing messing around on the railing? I would sue a guy who was to blame if I got hurt. I've seen guys jump on the stage, try to do pole tricks, then get hurt. He has no one to blame but himself.

That I didn't know. Years ago I got hurt on stage in Indiana (sprained my ankle on a pole)but never received money. In fact they let me go and told me to come back once it healed (I never did). Was this comp in place years ago? This incident was in 1993.

Interesting how you seem to like making things up. I wonder if this is the world you prefer to live in, or if this is a special service.

I'm surprised this subject is even brought up. In the ~ 2 decades that I've been clubbing, I've only seen two cases of a dancer being hurt in club where she couldn't continue shift. Far more dancers have had OTC injuries than ITC- I can casually think of a dozen (usually auto or bike accident), one of which required some reconstructive surgery. Even if insurance picks up the hospital bills, being unable to earn $$ dancing has to suck.

As for #2, yeah, I've had a dancer or 2 lose balance near me, and sorta fall on me, no big deal. ( I've wondered how situation might turn out if the relative weights were reversed, I've seen a few dancers close to my weight, and some customers lighter than average dancer). I've had more than a few heels come close with a rapidly gyrating pole dancer. I try to keep an alertness level akin to walking in a warehouse full of forklifts, and sit a good distance from the poles.
    I'm right 96% of the time. I don't sweat the other 5% .......................

She made an assumption that I was on perverts row leaning in too close. Now if she was just poking fun at me I would expect a smiley or some such... It just didn't come off as a "LOL! you got too close!" kind of statement.

Well, smiley face or not, an assumption is not the same thing as "making something up". Sounds more like an educated guess to me...

I used to work with a girl who was telling me about how 5-6 years or so into her pole career she flipped upside down to do a move she'd done thousands of times... and just, couldn't catch herself for some reason... fell down, slammed face/arms first into the stage. Blacked out for several minutes, had a broken wrist, mangled face and no source of income.
That's enough for me to second this.
