I've been watching this show on and off on HBO for the past few months and his view points and guests lately have been a interesting bunch. Being a moderate Republican I would have to admit he does have a lot of valid points. What do you guys think?

I like Bill Maher. I saw him in concert back in 2002 when he did a performance at my grad school and he was good. I then got his autograph and that was cool. He's very short though, around my height.
Nay. He's obnoxious to me, good points be damned. Even if I agree with what he's saying, that smug air he has about him makes me bristle.
I love Bill Maher. My dad and I watch Real Time together every Friday night.
What Spinnerette said. I think most of his points are valid too but I just hate anybody who's so far to the left or right of any issue and makes smug, condescending comments about people who don't agree. I've never enjoyed name-calling and demonization from either side, even if I agree with the person talking, and Bill Maher does that a lot. Sometimes I find him funny and I like his "no-nonsense" thing but he just takes it too far most of the time. I get annoyed quickly.
I don't get HBO, but I see Bill Maher enough on Comedy Central and MSNBC. I think he's hilarious (as compared to "Religulous," the title of Maher's mockumentary that 'investigated' religious life and piety of various religions). I think he's a very talented satirist.
I am not sure Maher could do a high quality everyday show like "Daily Show" or "Colbert Report," as I think his his obvious cynicism would wear on him and his audience. For my money the most talented comic in political satire right now is Steven Colbert. Not only are Steve and I both Northwestern Alums (Go Cats!), but his ability to ad lib on his show, while staying in character, is really incredible.

LOVE him.

he can be irritating at times, but in general i like him. I actually thought religulous was funny as hell, but then, I have some extreme views of religion.
i think he has his place and he knows it.
I think he's hilarious and spot on with much of his commentary on politics and society. Calling out social conservative hypocrisy and bullshit in general in a humorous manor is not being smug. However, he does frequently get caught up in the sort of vague populist arguments you see on TV all the time.

I love his show and Colbert's and Stewart's. Hilarious!

Arrogant blowhard.

I think he's hilarious and I agree with a lot of what he says.
I think more people would like him if his personality wasn't so cocky - I'm a hardcore 'lefty' and even I find him irritating at times when he puts down organized religion.
Admittedly, there's something kinda sexy about his bravado sense of self, though...

When he did stand-up in the 90s, I saw him a few times and found him to be rather funny. He patterned his style after Dennis Miller as an "intellectual comedian". For the most part, it worked for him but he was never very successful and quit performing in clubs.
I've seen his TV show, and while he might have good points (because he's a bright guy), he's far too annoying now for me to invest any time watching him.
As a few people mentioned above, he's an arrogant ass.

Yeah... his attitude is so bad I find it hard to listen to his points. As sound as they may (or may not) be...
I like him. I disagree with him on major points but I find him thought provoking enough to deal. On his last show he brought up sugar daddies & how there are websites to find in today's economy. He has no fear & that's what I like.
He is John Stewarts less clever less funny and WAY less likable twin.

I like Bill. He is both funny and gutsy. I agree with some of what he says but:
1. Most of his shows are rigged with either no or just one conservative. Afaic if he had REAL guts, he'd have ALL conservatives and just him. Actually he has done that once ot twice and usually he gets his lunch handed to him.
2. He gives an outlet to ignorant nuts like Jeanine Garafalo ( who gets uglier by the day btw ) and Cornel West.
3. He goes after right wing loons like Beck, Christine O'Donnel and Michelle Bachman ( and her "Pray the gay away" husband ) which is fine. I'd like to see him go after left wing fruit loops. Even Chris Matthews has been known to do that.
4. While it was not as funny as Real Time, his original show Politically Incorrect was much more balanced.
He makes a lot of valid points on some issues and he is outright insane on some others.
"Well done. Here are the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: 'A horrible person.' We weren't even testing for that."

He's a douchebag.
