How many of you ladies are stashing some $$ away for retirement?

admittedly I am not saving enough. I have a RRSP (registered retirement savings plan), its a Canadian version of I think a 401K or something like that.

I throw in $50 a month. My bank takes it from my account. Its not alot and it goes into some investments to "grow". Right now I have $1000 in it.

YES I am! And think you extremely smart for preparing for your future. One of my WORST fears is to be old and broke/relying on social (in)security. I have seen the downfall of not saving/investing and it is sooo scary. (to me) Also, often times socking money away for retirement is a tax deduction. And I'd like to take full advantage of that!

yes, i def plan on saving for retirment, build up a good nest egg so i can retire by 40 for sure, get some debt cleared up first, live a modest lifestyle and build up for retirement. not sure if i wanna keep the money i save in my safe i have at home or put it in some type of account, need to weigh those options first....ok better get back on cam before fridays starts drill sergeanting my ass, Lol

Not yet, I'm still pulling myself out of the money hole I was in before camming. However by January I'll be throwing at least $100 a month into a savings account

I use to have one with 5k in it, then I went stupid and cashed it out for an ex boyfriend. now that bastard is gone i am slowly figuring out how to build it back up again. and also will be applying for the registered disability savings account maybe.

    not yet.

my viewpoint is a little different i guess because i grew up poor - no one from my background even has retirement, 401k, anything like that. very few have jobs that provide health insurance or any other kind of benefit. even fewer make enough to pay their bills, let alone put in a savings account. very few people have checking or savings accounts. i've always worked multiple jobs and still barely made my basic bills, and with my health problems, saving has rarely been an option.

right now i'm just working on being able to subsist. as soon as i can manage that, and save for emergencies (i do have a savings account, which is a rarity in my family/the community i come from, it just has a $0 balance), and even begin making debt payments, then i will start saving for retirement. it's not that i don't think it's important - because it is - but i have always seen it as a luxury of being middle class, which i'm not. i was never taught about retirement growing up and i didn't know anyone who had it. the only reason i know anything about it is because my fiance (who is middle/upper class) has retirement accounts, and because i've educated myself about personal finance.

my concrete goals are to save $1000 for emergencies, then get at least one month ahead of my bills, then start paying off debt while saving for several months of expenses (for emergencies/job loss) - THEN begin saving for retirement. honestly, i've never expected to live long enough to retire - but if i do, hopefully i'll have the luxury of retirement money, and if i don't, then it'll make a nice safety net for my sister and her kids.
