    Default Safety in Detroit

So. My fiance and I are 90% certain that we will be relocating to Detroit after graduation next year (assuming I have the credits to graduate early... wish me luck on this one). We're both hoping to get into law schools in the area, buy a home, and settle down. His family lives in one of those fancy suburbs juuuuust far enough outside of the city proper, but we want to live IN Detroit. I fell in love with this city, he's always loved this city, and we want to put our degrees to use there.

Anyway, I guess the question is, how am I paying for law school? And I guess the answer is, DUH I'M STRIPPING. Thing is, I'm having trouble finding information about what strip clubs are in (relatively) safe neighborhoods. For instance, 8 Mile is a LOOOONG stretch of road, and not all of it is bad, but I don't know which clubs in this area to avoid.

Are there any clubs in Detroit that are safer than others? Are there any that I should absolutely avoid? Should I, in true white-people fashion, avoid clubs in Detroit and work in outlying neighborhoods only?

    Halp!

Don't go to the ones in 8th mile, it's really scary; The "Flight club" is the best one and the safest, its close to the airport. But even there, the guys are very grabby and kind of rude so beware, good luck

I think some of your nicer clubs on 8mile have valet so u usually don't have to worry about safety while parking. Some of the outskirt clubs can be just as bad as any of them on 8mile. Anything with a detroit address and in romulus you need a lisence. What kind of club are you looking for? Most of the guys in Detroit clubs will be grabby and ask for/expect extras, mainly because they can easily find it. It's possible to make money in some clubs without doing that but it's better if you have a thick skin and know what to expect when you start somewhere. try checking out some of the reviews on twosheds.com as well, it's pretty much for customers and you can weed out the omg no way clubs from the this might work out clubs lol.

I work at Penthouse off 8 mile (if you look it up, it's between Southfield road and Telegraph). Valet only, and there's always at least one bouncer outside watching while you wait for valet (yes, customers are out there too, but they're keeping an eye on them).

What area exactly are you looking to move to? Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I've been dancing in or around Detroit for 7 yrs (save for 2 yrs in Vegas and Cali)

I never had a problem in Detriot clubs. I stick out like sore thumb being asian. I always made sure I had a ride or my car waiting for me at the door. Pay valet a bit extra for them to secure your car. There is fights sometimes, but just make sure you just don't involve yourself. Good luck babe

There are plenty of strip clubs in the metro Detroit area that aren't actually in Detroit. There are also plenty of suburban neighborhoods that are safe that you can live in and still work at a Detroit club because it would be a short commute. Most Detroit clubs have valet parking so you don't have a lot to worry about with that. As far as safety goes, I'd stay away from clubs that are really within the city. Eight mile clubs are OK (the nicer ones, that is).

    I'd stay away from:
BT's- there's always been a lot of drama there and shootings. One of my regulars went to BT's once and got shot at. Never been there, but I'd stay away.
Pantheion- this place is actually in Dearborn which borders Detroit. It's ghetto with a bad clientele. My sister worked there and made shit. It has a bad reputation.
Cheetas- this is on 8 mile but it's mostly a black club. There was a shooting there not too long ago, plus I hear it's been really slow lately.
All-stars- this is another black club and it's always been shut down for some reason involving illegal activity.
    Deja-Vu- stay away. Extremely ghetto.

    Clubs that are decent:
-Trumpp's- this USED to be the spot. It is still a nice club but has been very slow lately, as with most Detroit clubs. However, the earning potential is higher at other clubs but it's a good place to start. It's on 8 mile.
-Penthouse- One of the nicest clubs but it's a whorehouse. Beautiful women, but has a huge reputation of being one of the biggest whorehouse clubs. The vast majority of girls there do extras, but I know of a few who don't. A girl who used to work at my club now works at Penthouse and says she hates it, the house fee is huge and most girls do extras, she only makes money because she's been dancing since '92 and has a strong customer base. Located on 8 mile.
-Flight Club- in Inkster. Same owners as Penthouse, it's also a whorehouse. There is still money to be made though, but business is not as good there as it used to be.
-Hustler- this club also isn't in Detroit, it's in Lincoln Park. I've never been there but it's one of the nicer clubs and fairly new. I'd say it's worth a try.
-Landing Strip- this is the club I dance at and I love it. Earning potential is good if you're a hustler and know how to work the customers. As with pretty much all Detroit clubs, there are girls who do extras but it's not as prominent as some other clubs. It's right by the airport (in Romulus) so there's a good clientele and it's in a decent neighborhood. I've only been dancing 3 months. Last month I recorded my earnings and September is one of the slowest months but I still averaged $415 a night. This month I am earning even more.

Any question, PM me. I live in Detroit, my mom used to dance in Detroit, and she has an old friend who still works at Penthouse so I know this stuff

i agree with everything nina said! i hate to sound negative... but i've never worked at a club in detroit, or any of michigan, that wasn't a whorehouse. when i went to south carolina they called me dirty because i let a guy grab my ass, and i didnt yell at him. but my ass got grabbed a million times a night in detroit, so i didnt find it that offensive. in detroit i was just grateful the guy was grabbing my ass instead of trying to finger me, honestly. of course you can still be clean and make money, which is what i've always done, but you gotta fight for it and have regulars. once you meet some nice old rich guys and make them your regulars you can build your income. also from what i understand there is no license required to work anywhere in detroit now, they just said fuck it! there is a club near the greektown casino called bouzouki club that is advertised a lot on tv for being upscale, i heard basketball players come in there or whatever, i have no idea if it's a whorehouse but that would be a good place to try or the landing strip. stay far away from dearborn, especially pantheon....

you know, you would also have the option of working in flint or lansing because ive always done better there than in detroit.

Don't dance in Flint. It's dangerous and I've had bad experience there.

Deja Vu Lansing has money potential. The girls there are in good shape and have long hair, they dress in bright colors. The club takes 33% of your earnings, less tips. You go in for a stage audition.

I've danced on and off at Landing Strip since March. The club I am at most often is Deja Vu Ypsilanti. I danced at Landing Strip for 42 nights straight from March to April. I was on a work binge, don't ask.

Dances are $25 per song. You can tell the customer he has to get 4 dances to go in the VIP dance area, although they don't actually sell blocks of time in the VIP area, and they don't have champagne rooms even though they serve alcohol.

Your house fee is $40 if you arrive at 7 PM, it's $10 extra if you arrive between 7:01 and 7:59 PM, $20 more if you arrive between 8:00 PM and 8:59 PM, etc. Tip DJ $25, Tip housemom $13, valet is $8 with tip. The rest of the money is yours. So your first 3 dances or so go to the house, after that it's all profit.

There is money in this club, but guys do ask for extras. They will usually tell you at the table what they want. I would consider this a high contact club. You can smoke upstairs in the lounge or in the lockerroom. House mom serves you food, and they have a full menu/chef for customers and dancers can order off of it. You get one free house drink, make sure to ask for it by 10 PM or so because then they close out the tab.

If you want to leave early it's $25, but they have never told me I couldn't pay to leave. No schedule. Night shift is 7 PM - 2 AM, you leave right at 2 AM. If you can't pay all of your fees, tip house fee (which you give to the bouncer downstairs by the dance area) and housemom first. Only tip DJ if you can pay house mom and house fee or the house mom will get mad. They will put you an on owes list if you can't pay and you are expected to pay up next time you make money. The staff is pretty nice. If a guy tries to run out without paying tell the bouncers and valet won't give him his keys til the bouncers talk to him about your money.

It's not a bad club, but you should have thick skin to work there.

Yeah when I said stay away from Deja Vu I meant the one in Highland Park which is a city inside Detroit. I hear DV in Ypsi does pretty good, not sure about Lansing. I wouldn't try the Deja Vu in Flint because I have a friend who works there and doesn't make good money... She says they take a lot of your earnings out and she leaves with about $200 a night and claims that's better than most of the other girls but who knows? She dances there with another friend of hers and they both have a very bad reputation.

Laurisa described Landing Strip pretty well. I live in North-Central Detroit which is a 35-45 min drive but I still make the commute. I've worked at a few other Detroit-area clubs and always like LS better.

Yeah the owner of Deja Vu Ypsilanti owns Highland Park and Toledo Deja Vu too.

Highland Park is a black club, ghetto, high extras. There is money in Toledo, but because the laws changed it is supposed to be a club with bottoms and pasties now. Girls don't always listen to that and you can run into trouble being topless/nude during a raid even if you are just walking around on the floor with your top off. Deja Vu Toledo serves alcohol. It's about an hour and 15 minute drive from Deja Vu Ypsilanti.

Deja Vu Ypsilanti has some money left in it, but it's flooded with dancers and the rules are really getting ridiculous. They treat you like children, fine you for anything they can, and you are treated like a cash cow. The general manager is nice, but I suspect he's been taking some heat from the higher ups because he's been tightening down on the rules. Not his fault directly I'm sure. You have to really hustle there, lots of college kids who are broke, so if you don't get their whopping $60 then you lose. You have to constantly be moving from guy to guy to make money because barely any of them have more than $200-250 to spend. The older guys don't come in as often as they used to.
