Default Regular Checkout vs. Amazon Checkout?

I'm building a retail site and have been looking at different shopping carts. Basically, I can either build my own and have customers checkout through my site and have an account on my site...or I can have them directed to Amazon and checkout with their Amazon accounts. Which would you prefer/do you think is the better choice? I loooove Amazon and loooove not having to put my info in a bunch of times to buy things on different sites, but that doesn't mean everyone else does. Just looking for some insight.

No matter what I am looking to buy I always check Amazon first. If Amazon directs me to a third party seller I am much more likely to give them a try because Amazon is backing up the transaction. If you are starting up a new site I think that being part of the Amazon site gives you a sort of instant credibility.

Do what is the best for you and your company. You want to be able to stay on top of your orders and not get behind.

amazon deff. I am wary of buying things online from unknown or small companies, amazon, evveryone knows. For the start begin with amazon and see how things go, when you get a trusted base and reviews, then you can change it up if you feel the need for it.

I don't know whether this would apply or not in your particular case. Several states like California and Connecticut have attempted to extend their sales tax authority to cover 'out of state' sales by websites located within their state. When those websites have been affiliated with an unbrella site like Amazon or Ebay, the umbrella sites have chosen to drop all affiliate websites located in those states because they do not want to get involved in processing / accounting for state sales tax revenues.

Once I start with using Amazon checkout for my site, it's going to be difficult to switch back to having my own shopping cart so it's important that I decide this now. Basically...if something was bought from me it would be checked out through an Amazon setup checkout system either way. The difference is that one way the customer would have to make an account on my site in order to check out, or be directed to their Amazon account to checkout. Like yoda said, I ALWAYS check Amazon first for pretty much everything and I don't mind being directed to check out with that account because it prevents me from having to put in a ton of information over and over and I trust Amazon checkout to be safe and secure.

Also, to be clear...I'm only asking about checkout. I don't plan to sell on Amazon right away, just on my site. So reviews and whatnot aren't relevant yet. Some people don't like being redirected to an Amazon account (especially if they don't have one) because then they are forced to use that account in order to checkout instead of keeping it separate.

Amazon. I trust the name, your products could get reviews there, and even though many sellers are actually third parties like yourself, I still feel more comfortable providing my credit card information to them.

Fair enough. I'm debating maybe doing the site with our own checkout system (which will be powered by Amazon, just without the account) but also selling the same stuff on Amazon for those who are more comfortable buying and having things shipped from Amazon.

Are you doing affiliate sales, or are you selling your own product(s)?
