I am part Korean and part Aboriginal (a native indian). My mother is the native one and our family history/culture is pretty much lost because of what happened to native people at the hands of Europeans. Many of my family members remember the days of reserve schools, where we were given "white" names and the culture was beaten out of us. Its a hard to think this happened to my family.
Here is a quote from a movie that I found that best sums up the native experience. This is based on a real Historical event (look up the Trail of Tears on google to find out more). This happened to many native cultures when Europeans came.
"but then the white man come and the Cherokee made a paper treaty with him. They said these white men ain't so bad. But then the government soilders came and said the treaty changed its words. And now the words said the Cherokee had to give up their homes and move far west where the government had other lands for them. Lands the white man did not want of course. And while the Cherokee tried to understand what the white man had done, the soilders had found this big ol' valley and came in with their guns and drove the Cherokee just like cattle and they filled up that whole valley. And then they brought in their mules and said "they can ride out west". Now the Cherokee had no land, no homes but they refused to ride. They could save something...they refused to ride so they walked. That was a long walk and as they got further and further from their mountains they began to die. At first it was just the very young and the very old so the soldiers stopped and let the Cherokee bury their dead. But more began to die, they died by the hundreds and then by the thousands. So the soldiers said "why don't you put your dead in the wagons" but they didn't. So the Cherokee carried them. Man carried his dead wife. Son carried his dead momma. little boy carried his dead baby sister. Now white people began to come and watch. But the Cherokee did not look, did not cry. That's why they call it the trail of tears." -From the movie The Education of Little Tree.
BTW the land the Europeans took was used mainly to enslave black people. They used trickery to get us to sign treaty. Very similar to how they tricked Africans into giving away and enslaving their people.
Anyhow back to my main topic, yesterday I got this ignorant idiotic comment in my chat room:
"You don't look like a Asian, you look like a Squaw! go back to your teepee"
Oh fuck my blood began to boil. I told him what an idiot he was because "indians" ARE Asian people. They are Mongoloid (Asian), as opposed to Caucasoid or Negroid. Oh and then I banned him not only for being a racist but for being such an idiot.
Here is an interesting link on mongoloid races http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongoloid
BTW the word "squaw" is term that was used by white European men to refer to Indian woman. It actually has a different meaning in some native cultures however the word has become offensive because it has become tied to such a negative experience on the part of Indian women. The word when used in reference to our women means cunt, prostitute, dirty woman. So although it does have a different meaning, the word essentially became offensive when white men started using it to put down our women. Many Indian women were raped by white men and called "squaw" during the process. In other words, the word has become misappropriated and associated with hate.
Its kinda like the "N" word in reference to black people. Yes the word does have another dictionary meaning which is "ignorant person", but it has become too tied to racism that the word has essentially lost its original meaning.

and the BAN!!!!! They won't see it coming
Words are powerful and they can hurt and cut deep, but YOU have to ALLOW it. You have to give your permission to allow these racist pricks, assholes,or jerks to upset you. You can chose to not let anyone take your power away. Rise above it because it's not what they call you, but what you answer to.

I hate even talking about where I came from etc. My great-grandmother escaped Nazi persecution in Poland during WWII, and married a French-Canadian. Everyone that asked then got that answer then said 'Oh no wonder you're so dumb. It's okay, we'll be easy on you.' It's so lame.

I witnessed a guy saying this to a MFC model. SMH.
