Default Clubs in New Orleans for a newbie

Hi there! I live in New Orleans and thinking about becoming a dancer. The only club i've visited was the Barely Legal club and I really liked it. I was think about tryin that one out. Does anyone know if they hire inexperienced dancers? Would that be a good club to start at? Any advice for a total newbie in new orleans? Thank you!

There's lots of clubs in New Orleans. Go audition @ a few of them and find one you like. Inexperience usually doesn't matter if you're cute. If management is really concerned about it they might just suggest you work a few dayshifts first.

New Orleans is a horrible place to start your dancing career. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I live in Louisiana and have worked all over the country. Barely Legal is looking for just that... Their VIP rooms used to be set up as little girls bedrooms. You danced on beds, from what I was told.

Scarlet's is a drug infested whore house. I tried to work there after a girl told me how much money she made. I made it through 3 hours. EVERY guy I sat with tried to, literally, shove his had into my crotch. My friend had a guy whip his dick out during a single song lap dance. That right, not a VIP, but a single song dance on the floor where everyone could see. One girl offered us Blow right in front of the housemom.

Hustler is a good club, from what I hear, but they have an outrageous housefee.

Rick's wouldn't hire me because I had too many tattoos. They are really looking for the blonde Barbie types.

The Penthouse Club is nice. I actually recommend working there if you are going to go anywhere. The girls can be very cut throat, but I'm sure you will find that anywhere. Plus, I had one guy try to strangle me in the VIP room. Besides that, I feel it's the nicest club for a dancer to work at.

New Orleans is VERY touristy! You get a bunch of assholes on vacation that try to get away with things they would never dream of trying at home. You should come audition at The Gold Club in Baton Rouge. It's only an hour away. The money is steady and the customers are far more respectful. If you try the GC ask for Cheyanne. That's me I'm one of the housemoms. We are rather picky about who we hire as a dancer. But you could also try doing shots if you're not comfortable taking your clothes off just yet.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Well I was considering BL because it is the only club i've visited and everyone that worked there seemed nice. I'm 24 but most people think i'm 17-19,5'1, small breast, blonde hair,no tats, so I fit the image.
Honestly im not surprised that some guy pulled his dick out. I assumed that happened from time to time.

Thats crazy someone tried to choke you at penthouse. I've looked at the penthouse website and I didn't really like the vibe I got. Looks like somewhere Christian Bale's character in American Psycho might hang out. Creepy.

I'll check out some of the other clubs. Bourbon is only 10mins away from my house, but if that doesn't work out, Baton Rouge is a good idea. Thanx hun!

Damn. I'm sitting in an airport right now with a 5 hour layover. I'm so tempted to reroute and try Nola.
I wont. I'm gonna stick this out ... but I'm totally tempted.

I've heard good and bad things about Nola first hand from other traveling dancers. I've heard the money is terrible in summer .... but summer is nearing an end, so try it ! Report back of course.

I worked at Barely Legal about one month after I started dancing, so it wasn't my first club, but it was my third. I worked at Temptations in New Orleans the night before I worked at Barely Legal.

My first club was a fully nude juice bar, so Barely Legal was a reality check.

Some of the CRs have couches, some have beds. The more expensive rooms have beds, whereas the more affordable rooms ($350-$5000) have couches from what I remember. I haven't been since September 2010.

I didn't do any extras and I was very new and I still made money. The club management was pretty nice and security was tight, they had people watching the cameras and the bouncers were always hanging around nearby.

If you do a really pricey room then the customer will probably expect extras, particularly full service in the very pricey rooms. Most guys won't drop $5,000 for an hour of lap dances. I sure wouldn't, but I'm sure there are girls who have done a $5,000 room and not given extras--just not many of them. Their most expensive room is $10,000, it is called the Little Mermaid Room, and it has two twin beds in it.

The CRs are set up like college dorms, not little girl's bedrooms, but nonetheless--the club is called Barely Legal for a reason. They want it to be filled with hot, young dancers. There is a private VIP floor with a private stage and a private bar, as well as private lap dance areas. The CRs are located on the VIP floor. The dressing room is on the third floor, so is the manager's office/where you collect your money from dances at the end of the night.

NOLA could be a challenging place to start dancing, but if you really have your heart set on it then you can give it a whirl. I did it when I was very young and inexperienced and overall I had a good time.

The clubs (including Barely Legal) have started sending out 1099s as of October 2010 from what I was told, which means you need to pay your taxes or the IRS will hunt you down.

You need an SS card and ID to work at Barely Legal.

I had the same experience as another poster in this thread, Ricks wouldn't hire me because I had dark hair and too many tattoos.

Why would you consider nola to be a challenging place to start dancing? Is it the clientele like butrcup was mentioning?

Well, if you live in New Orleans and are used to Bourbon it might not be as challenging as it would be for someone in the city.

However, the clients in New Orleans are typically tourists, and they are usually drunk. It may be harder to cultivate quality regulars because of this, although I know locals still visit the club. Another problem is that because Bourbon Street is party central people get VERY drunk (as you know) and it makes it harder to hustle. Really drunk people who are incoherent are hard customers. They can be foul mouthed, rude, pushy, grabby, and take forever to make a decision. Also, in New Orleans when someone tries to put a CR on their card it can often be declined at first because of credit card theft prevention policies. So, often times the customer has to step into an unoccupied CR where it is quieter and call their card company, verify their identity, and then wait 15-20 minutes for the card to be cleared for the purchase amount. Someone who is very drunk or high on drugs will have difficulty talking to their card company, and may forget important numbers such as their SSN. I have run into problems like that.

Bourbon Street clubs are very fast paced, or the good ones are anyway. You are working in an area with high expectations and when people go there to party they want an unforgettable experience. This leaves little room for error or acting like you don't know what you're doing. The local/house girls are also very rude to traveling and new dancers. I would be too, it's probably annoying to see 50 new dancers cycle through your club every month. You have to make sure not to step on their toes. If you are going to be a permanent addition then they will probably warm up to you over time.

Hmmm...... This one's a toughie. I loved working in New Orleans and never had anything bad happen to me. But then, part of that is luck and a suspicious attitude, and I also credit it to knowing my boundaries and not using alcohol or drugs. If you know your boundaries and can stick to your guns, really what's going to define things for you is management and the bouncers and the women you work with, not the customers.

Yes, the customers could be incoherent and pushy, but the nice thing about that much alcohol is they could also be hustled to dance (though sober ones could too.) I actually liked the guys that expected too much because I'd get rooms with them and dance and they'd tip, and they'd still leave without getting any pussy from me. But I knew the club layout, and wasn't as alone with them as they thought.

I would say, commit to just doing floor and couch dances and let yourself say no to vips right off the bat if you don't feel comfortable. There's a lot of turn over in customers, but like Laurisa said, locals do come in, and also, if guys like a club, and are there for a few days, they can come in several nights in a row and spend money on you each night.

I liked Scores for a little bit, though it does have a lot of extras. You can't really get away with anything (unless something's changed) on the floor or on their one couch they do dances on downstairs. Upstairs, there's nastiness going on in the lapdance room but even then you'll still be around people. And then there's the private rooms, which I would suggest, if you work there, using the room that's just off the locker room. None of the doors to the room close (except the one door between the locker room and that particular room, though there's another door into that room that doesn't close.) That way if you feel the need to possibly be rescued, you don't have to just depend on the bouncers/waitresses. The women who work scores, make a lot of their money by booty bouncing onstage and doing hours upstairs.

I like Rick's the best. I never had a problem there and I think they have a good mix of floor dances (uh, those stools!), the back VIP (my favorite setup in a club to have two expensive VIPs-- one easy to get to and the other on the second floor for longer time rooms) plus upstairs with really pretty redone rooms. Waitresses kind of suck because they're either not doing their job, of they're having to cover for the stupid ones who aren't doing their job, so do not wait for a drink while with a customer. And, I liked the VIP hosts and the bouncers. The bouncers and management appreciated me tipping when I had a really good night and spread the money around to people (I think the manager declined it though-- I liked that.)

I don't know barely legal but I think it's next door or close to Rick's. I say try it. Have a chat with bouncers and management about being new and hearing bad stories so they keep an extra eye on you, and then tip them when you do well.

I agree with having a larger number of drunk clientele but if you've worked a golf season or a tourist town even as a newbie you'll be fine and I never experiened rudeness from locals, they're use to girls traveling in oct-may just like florida girls, vegas, new york and myrtle beach girls( feel the sorriest for them becasue they get like 30 new auditions daily in m,arch and april) are.

^ Ricks was set up like that years ago. There are no more stools( yes those were used at all bourbon clubs) years ago and the vips are all upstairs now. Years ago when they were on the first floor it was easier because the waitreses weren't inept with making you wait a half hour alone upstairs only to come back and tell you the card was declined. This happened 3 times in one night I wasted like 3 hours because of this!

It's been maybe three or four years since I worked at rick's. Are the floor stools really gone? I know Rick's was the only club doing them at that point anymore. And, also, the little back VIP room is gone for single VIP lapdances? I hope not! That was a huge selling point!

There are no stools anymore. Theres a area you go to were you do 60 dollar dances, you get 50 but its an area by the back bar a few steps down and not private, there's couches and I thin some high back chairs so if someone is there they could be dancing right next to you. I thougt it was a pretty cheezy area for 60 dollar dances and the stairs are unsafe I fell going down them. Though I'm clumsy.Lol.

Oh and the couches are so low and uncomftorable to do dances in even if you take off shoes.....unless you stradle grind and I don't.

Tip out per hour and half hour at Ricks? I worked there last year and never heard anything about that. Floor stools are gone, yes. Basic breakdown of Ricks:

Table dances: $20, you keep everything, no contact.
Semi private dances: $60 cash (you keep $50), $75 credit card (you keep $60).
I believe half hours were $500 and hours were $900. I worked there last December and can't really recall.

Everything is pre-paid except table dances. You receive funny money vouchers for your cuts. So in addition to the dance cuts, they take 20% of your vouchers. I usually went in at 10pm so my house fee was $70. All in all they take about 40% when you include tip outs after the percentages.

Standard tip out is $20 to the manager, 10% to the DJ.

They are strict about tattoos; I only got hired because I had a good relationship with the GM and my husband was friends with a manager as well. They're also pretty strict on weight; I didn't see any thicker girls there. A lot of girls wear dresses and gowns. It's very much a "look glamorous" club. The hustle is slower but you'll make all your money off 2-5 guys instead of lap hopping.

Dances are light to medium contact. Boob touching isn't allowed nor is straddle grinding.

It's a great club, I enjoyed it a lot. Even with the large cuts the money adds up quickly and is easy to make. However, I would not advise it for a total newbie. 80% of the girls here are veterans and can be pretty sharky.

I saw straddle grinding in the 60 dollar area. Maybe I was taken advantage on my first night I did an hour and two half hours and the manager on shift siad I owed I forget and when I walked away he s aid I owed him tip per room I did. I don't know I work at the one in manahattan which is corporate and better run to me, the one in new orleans I felt like I was walking on egg shells working there. I saw some very thick girls on night shift.......there was this one betty page thick tattoed girl I wondered how she was on night shift but I definitely liked it better 6 years ago when I worked there

last time i worked at rick's they went had summer tip schedule so if you were there by 7 it was only 20$ (and increases throughout the night) but that also reflects the summer kind of money which is terrible so i haven't been in about 2 months. it's too hard to compete with the girls doing extras and selling blow to their customers in v.i.p. it's 500$ for half hour the club gets 100 and if you get dance dollars they charge the customer $400 but when you cash them in you get 320 and then at the end when you check out the manager expects 20 of that. still 300$ for 30 minutes is not shabby. an hour would be 950 -150 to the house you get 800 in dance dollars but cashes out to 640 and the managers take $40. so $600 total for the hour.
as for the vip area for the single song 60$ dances, they took those terrible beat couches out and put in new higher seating almost to where it forms a bench along the wall so they can fit in more dances.
for guys who have stopped in any of the many other strip clubs on bourbon like to debate with you why are your dances 60$ when they are only 30/40$ elsewhere. and when you explain how much the room rates are they think you're joking. it's been hard to "price high and justify"
this club has money making potential but lately it's been so bad i even tried penthouse for a change of pace.
penthouse definitely seems to be the "cleaner" of the 2 these days but damn, there's a lot of competition there. imo they have prettier girls and are just as strict in hiring but they don't make you cover your tattoos there and there isn't a dress-code of only wearing dresses. i would also say that the girls atrick's are probably friendlier where as penthouse girls can be a bit catty. but over all the atmosphere seems to be much more fun and guys actually tip the stage and do dances at penthouse and it's a bargain for their executive v.i.p it's $550 to the customer you get 400$ and they only take 10% so you actually get 360. that's per hour. the half hour room i think was $250 to the customer and you get $200 so clear 180 for 30 minutes. they have a 20 minute room that you only make 100$ so i wouldn't offer that and the private dances are 40$ and the manager takes 10$ per song.
i think i only made decent money the one night i tried it because the saints played at home so there was a lot of people in there, but there were so many girls and they also let the waitresses do private rooms.
as for using the stools for $20 table dances - thank god they did away with those because they were so dangerous. but now they allow table side dances but these are supposed to be no contact. supposed to be. i don't know why girls grind/ allow touching for $20. they lower the standards and expectations (or i should say raise the customers) so if he sees what some are doing for 20$ and he takes you any place private, 9/10 he's going to try.... but now they at least ask well what are your rules?
so i agree new orleans can be tough to start in.... and with that said i'm actually thinking about trying eden or vision's until we get a decent convention or home game...

So New Orleans is known for the terrible summer season right?
Can someone please explain to me why Rick's has decided to completely remodel the first floor, starting from the women's bathroom in the foyer and throughout the first half of the main floor now?
Football season and soon to be conventions with the bowl games and mardi gras just a few months away is this really the best time to decide they want to move the main bar across the room? They should have started this right after jazz fest.
They needed to clean house but not literally....

I live and go to school n ms I danced at 2 clubs in Atlanta for a really short time before and am thinking about trying out Hustlers n new Orleans . Ill only be able to work Fri sat and either a sun or Monday
Can someone give me an idea of the run down of the club and how will it be for a someone who knows no pole tricks. Also can I expect to make 450-550 a week working3 days. (I know money depends on me but it also depends on the atmosphere and clientele the club attracts) Thx! Thinking about starting in another 2 weeks
