    Default Pot smokers.

First, if you're against drugs please don't reply...I'm just looking for honest people with honest experiences that they're willing to share....if you have an experience and no longer use drugs, that's fine, but I don't want to turn this thread into a "say no to drugs campaign"...

anyway, I posted in another thread how I think I should start smoking pot thinking it will chill me out and calm me down.

In the past, I've never really liked downers and always liked the uppers (I've been clean and haven't done a drug in a little over a year btw)

I don't want to do drugs...I just see a lot of people smoking pot and just being so calm and relaxed..and I guess I wish it had that affect on me. Instead of just zoning me out and making me eat and laugh at everything.

I'm a shitty pot head. But...it's been soooo long since I've smoked pot and wondering if it'll be any different this time..doubt it..but I dunno.

Sooo...do you have any pros/cons on pot?
What are your experiences with it?
Would you consider yourself a pot head??

I've done pot in the past and while I was never a pothead it was relaxing the few times I did it. Mostly though it made me hungry then sleepy. However, I would caution you about smoking pot while you are going through your custody battle. The judge might give you a hard time about this. Trust me I understand why you are considering this (and I like you)so I don't mean to judge you on this, just that I'd hate to see you lose because of this.

If you need relaxing things I would suggest yoga or a massage. Those to me are more relaxing than pot.

LOL, well you know I'm a pot head It does wonders for my mood. It's like a natural relaxant. The cons is that it takes my motivation away sometimes :/ Other times it makes things I do seem alot more fun...like cleaning or playing games with my daughter for example

I smoke pot... the biggest down side in my own life is that it makes me put on weight.
Plus, it stays in your system for 30 days, so if you have to take a drug test for any reason (jobs?), it can make it a real pain in the ass- you have to plan ahead a month in advance.

tangent/ It drives me crazy that the one substance with the least amount of social problems and addiction issues relating to it is the one that stays in your system the longest. Meawhile, people can do all the coke and heroin they want, and pass a drug test 3 or 4 days later.
    /end tangent

The only reason I can think of why you might NOT want to try it out has to do with your recent post in the "confessions" thread. Do you think that might be an issue (being an illegal substance and all)?

If not, I don't really see any reason not to try it to see if it helps. There are lots of good healing qualities that can come from smoking pot, and the side effects are usually way less hazardous than the legal prescription alternatives.

Rather than taking all the various therapeutic drugs I keep seeing touted on television (on those rare occasions I watch it, I can't help but notice the prevalence of these ads), it might not be such a bad idea to try a little weed.

You'll save a hell of a lot of money and time in the doctor's office and the pharmacy, that's for sure. If it works out to your benefit, anyway.

OTOH some people should stay away from it. These people who smoke an ounce of weed a week or more, for instance. God knows I used to smoke a lot back in college, but I don't think I was ever that bad. There's no way anyone can smoke that much without negative side effects--usually in motivation, and also lung damage.

The best thing I ever did with weed was to quit absolutely for about 9 months. It cleared out my system entirely, so that when I did start again, I was able to get really toasted on a very small amount lol. Saves money, saves your lungs, saves your motivation, etc.

I have been around drugs and drug users since I was a teenager. And in this business they are always around. I have noticed that certain people can take certain drugs without much harm done, whereas certain other people will get into trouble more or less immediately, and will have a hard time getting whatever kind of monkey it is off their back.

Of all the drugs to choose to abuse, weed is probably the most benign. You don't hear about people robbing banks or their grandmas to get a fix of weed. People fight less, run from police at high speeds and wreck their cars less, blow strange dudes for a fix less, vomit less, go into comas less, and so forth.

I use weed to help me focus when working out a lot, it's great for that, in small amounts. It really helped me with my mild ADD when doing very detailed architectural drawings, and also could act as a mild stimulant when taken in very small hits, to keep me going on Deadline Nights. It also really helps me relax from the adrenaline buzz I get almost every night after work, especially on busy or particularly challenging nights--and there's a lot of those in my club!

Yeah, that's a main reason I don't wanna try it again because of "him" and him being able to use any little thing against me.

Just more curious as how other people are when they're on it.

Maybe I can get contact high or something?? LOL

Exactly, I'm on anti depressants, anti anxieties, anti psychotics...and they don't seem to do anything but make me feel MORE crazy...

I think if you found that pot could work for you in terms of lowering anxiety and making you feel relaxed, it could be better than taking prescription drugs. Probably a lot less expensive too, some of those drugs are pricey and that's the reason doctors like to prescribe them.

Have you tried taking edibles? A lot of the cannabis clubs here in CA sell a variety of things made with canna-butter, like cookies and rice krispy treats. They're actually pretty good, lol. It gives you more of a body high rather than a mental high. At least for me it does.

I used to smoke a lot of pot. I don't smoke now because I am on probation.

Pot helps me a lot with many different things. It helps me with my ADD (really) and it helps me relax if I am coming down from Adderall (which I am prescribed). It also helps with my depression and anxiety, although I ultinately decided to start taking antidepressants.

I noticed on the antidepressants that when smoke I am more likely to have paranoia and just generally not have as good a time. This cause me to cut back a lot, and I am careful to take less hits, only smoke alone or with people I am super comfy with.

It also depends on the kind of weed. Unless you have access to medical marijuana, you never really know what you're going to get. Some strains are more relaxing than others. I've smoked great weed that made me feel so relaxed and great, but I've gotten some stuff that made me stressed out and paranoid... once I had a bag of weed and my friend and I called devil weed because it was such an unpleasant high. The best I can recommend is try and find a good, consistant dealer who is honest about their product (sounds impossible but they are out there).

If you are worried about drug tests, you can always try legal smoke blends. There are different kinds that offer different kinds of highs, and in my experience I have less paranoia with many of these blends. I can smoke them on my medication with no problem. Overall they feel very similar to marijuana, but maybe a little less potent.
    Try www.legalbuds.com

And of course, you can always PM me.

It may not have the calming effect you're looking for. There are a lot of people who actually feel MORE anxious on weed. I have some friends who won't smoke it for that reason. Different strains will probably have different effects on you, especially when it comes to anxiety.

Have you tried any other herbal remedy type things? For example, valerian root is pretty good for that - I like to take it as a tincture. (It's kind of like a more mild herbal valium). Or St. John's Wort? There are lots of alternatives out there, most of which are legal and cheap.

I've been on and off of psych meds since I was 15, so I can relate to you on that front. I know that sometimes these herbal things aren't potent enough to handle what you are going through at a particular time, but I like to use them as often as I can. Psych med side effects can be a bitch.

In any case, good luck with everything. It sounds like you are going through a really tough period - I hope that once you are able to work through this, a happier life awaits you.

I smoked a LOT of pot in high school and after about a year of smoking every single day I turned into your stereotypical "duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude" burnt out stoner. I was always relaxed but started feeling hazy after smoking all the time.

I agree with kelly, just do yoga. you'll feel relaxed but you'll be clear and focused

Personally, I get migraines, and tend to be stressed out on a reg basis. Pot calms me down. It also stops a migraine in its tracks for me. Not that I'm a pot head but it definitely helps me when I need it.

That said, if you never liked the way it effected you in the first place, and haven't smoked in years, I'm going to say it probably won't be anything you'll like now. My gf and I did E for the first time in 10yrs last Nov. and I totally couldn't handle it anymore. For the most part, all of that is crap I just stay away from now despite my history. I'm just too old. I def agree with the above advice. Yoga and/or natural remedies (aromatherapy etc) is probably the way to go.

I've only tried it twice. The first time had no effect on me. The second time I got a bit giggly. Ultimately, I decided that I preferred the stronger effects of alcohol, and I worried about where the money was going with pot. In my later solitary years, my philosophy has become one of do whatever makes you feel happy, even temporarily, so long as you don't hurt anyone else.

Why do you say you're a shitty pot head?

About 10 years ago I was a hard-core stoner. Like 24/7, wake and bake, freaked out if I didn't have anything. I was like that for a few years then I got sick of it and quit.

Maybe 2 years ago I decided to start smoking again, but to keep it reasonable, which I have. However, I find that I often don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I'm very sensitive to the type of weed that I smoke, so sometimes I find it relaxing and enjoyable, but other times I get paranoid and start thinking too much about stupid things.

Now I usually only smoke before bed when I'm relaxed and ready to read and go to sleep, or when I have a day to waste playing video games.

Be aware it can have the opposite effect, like Natallia said. It makes my heart beat really fast (140bpm and up) and hard, makes me see spots, shake, experience derealization and become convinced I'm dying. I've tried smoking less, smoking more, different types and attempted it over 20 times. Unless I'm shit faced drunk, always the same result. It's scary as shit.

The fucked up thing is with harder drugs, my system tolerates them well and they make me feel relaxed. Go figure. But I only partake a handful of tomes a year so whatevs.

Im also one who is not a fan of pot. The only time I can tolerate it is when Im crazy high off a shit load of stimulant and then it just helps me sleep.

If I smoke it normal I feel awful. Anxious, freaked out, I become really creative which I don't like cause I think really fucked up shit.

I also get nightmares for 2 weeks every single time Ive smoked it. Literally every night.

But I have nothing against drug users but I think any drug taken daily or every several times weekly can't be a good thing. Anyone I know that takes any drug that often just cares less about everything in their life eventually in my experience. Any of my friends who are daily users of drugs whether it be pot, coke or meth just constantly let me down. Its not a big deal because I expect it and don't rely on them for much, but I personally don't want to be that type of person so I try to keep my drug use to recreational.

Yes, I'm one of the people who experiences bad effects on pot. I don't get relaxed. I get anxious and shaky and paranoid. I may have a bout of 5 minutes where I think everything's funny and just sit there laughing but that's it. After that, I just twitch out until the effects start wearing out - which is annoying and tiring to me. I just sit there, but it's not relaxing. It's more like I'm trapped in my own body that won't cooperate even though my mind is still perfectly sober. Then, when I come down off it, I'm cranky as fuck. I don't want any sound or light or interaction with people most of all. I snap at anyone who tries to talk to or touch me.

That's just my experience, but I know a few people who also say that pot has the "opposite" of normal effect on them. And if you say you're a shitty pothead, this might be the case for you. I also agree with Jessie. Any drug taken daily just messes things up, no matter how benign it is healthwise. I've never had a friend who was a legit "pothead" that smoked every day that was a responsible, productive, and good friend. All they ever cared about was getting high - to the point of it being absolutely ridiculous. This was probably due to them just being lazy in general and the pot feeding their laziness, but if they hadn't been able to make themselves mellow out with it, they may not have been able to come up with an excuse to just sit on their ass because it would have gotten boring after awhile. The couple who forced themselves to stop smoking were suddenly 10x more productive, and that's why they knew they had to stay away if they were going to get anything done. If you have positive affects on your mood with pot, I would say got for it - but only once in awhile.

This. I definitely LOVE the affects of alcohol, but when I am at work, I DO turn into an alcoholic. Is it possible to just be an alcoholic in certain situations or is there a standard definition. Like, NEEDING to drink everyday.

Because I only get like that at work. With my DUI, it has helped me to not be like that at work, but when my husband does drive me, it's reallllly hard for me to turn down drinks.

I have tried pot brownies before...O.M.F.G!!!! I have never been so stoned and scared in my life. I was at work and seriously thought I was going to die. I had to go home because I couldn't handle it. I did eat more than I was suppose to though lol

Just because I'm not functional. I think though, like Kaia said, it would make playing cars and stuff more fun. DEFINITELY playing video games.

but then I usually get tired sooo fast and just can't keep my eyes open

So I guess if I ever do decide to try it again..(for whatever reason)...I will make sure to do it at night anyway lol

I was a pot head, before I move to Texas all my friends smoked pot and so did my ex. When I say pot head I mean like smoke four+ times a day. I couldn't smoke directly before work, just because I would go to sleep in the dressing room lol my lungs would get a bit to relaxed also and breathing felt strange idk how to explain it. But it helped out my anger and insomnia problems a lot! Now not smoking pot (three or four months) my patience and anger levels have dropped significantly I feel bad for my current bf because he hasn't ever experienced this side of me so I'm trying to find ways to chill out. So over all its great for me unless I'm dancing then I get tired/bored on stage and hussle a lot less. Just something I noticed (I'm not condoning the druggy chicks at work) the few times I took uppers at work my earnings doubled vs. Lowering if I was smoking before work.

I'm a total pothead..though I find that if I smoke too much at work it becomes completely useless as it renders me a nervous wreck. So rather than smoking out with other girls at work I'll now simply take a hit or two before each of my stage sets--this is usually just enough for a slight head change that leaves me feeling relaxed yet still alert enough to carry on a conversation.
Perhaps you just need to find your happy medium?

I wholeheartedly believe that it takes 'practice' to function on any drug. Pot being no exception!

i do think it depends how strong it is/what type, i usualy visit family in holland about 5 times a year, in the coffee shops they have menus and you can ask for a recomendation depending on what effect you want, i find the stuff i can get hold of in england is alot more expensive, not as nice effect and leaves me with headaches afterwards!

I am not against pot at all, but please don't smoke any if there's a chance you'll be drug tested for whatever reason. It will just create more problems. Is there something else you can do? I know nothing compares, but there are alot of legal options that don't show up on a drug screen. I love me some red-veined thai kratom. It's very speedy, which I like. There is also a strain called Bali that has a mellow effect.

Idk... it sounds like you want it to make you relaxed like it does other people, but that's not the effect it's had on you... and no, that's not likely to change. If it didn't make you relaxed and laid back before, it isn't going to do that if you try again.
I've had a few friends who decided to "try again" in adulthood and it's always made them feel the same way it did when they were kids. No new magically relaxing results.
I'm not lecturing you against not doing it... if you want to try, go for it... but I just wanted to point out that, logically, it's not a good idea. He'll use it against you and it'll create MORE stress if anything.

Hey, I just popped in to say it's ok, I'm sure everything will work out! I'm sorry that you are going through a hard time though. And don't feel bad about being on medication - I'm on antidepressants, anti-anxiety, and stimulant meds... tons of people are so you shouldn't feel bad about it Some of the things that have helped me relax are watching anything funny, taking myself shopping - even if it's for something little, good music, and spirituality I've never smoked weed, too scared of the legal ramifications/ possible negative interactions with the meds I'm already on *lol*, but if you need someone to talk to about the other stuff you can always pm me

Isn't kratom an opiate? I know that it is currently legal in the U.S., but do you know if it would show up as an opiate in a drug test if you took enough of it?
