Mind Blowing At-Home Hair Dying - please HELP

ok so i had many different colours but i never coloured from red to lighter.
i currently have short red hair and clip in hair extensions that match. theres an altered photo of me in this thread

otherwise its called vampire red by manic panic.

my friend recently told me i made a lot better money when my hair wasnt this bright red [conservative blonde club with suits] and now that im back to university i need all the money i can get.

i can only dye my hair at home for now coz im really short for money atm.

i thought about going blonde first but i can never get it right at home and it looks too orange.

so if i wanna go like caramel/chocolate brown, would i need to bleach my hair first?
i also heard that sometimes when you bleach at home then do brown it turns into another weird colour like red or black etc.
    idk.

someone talk me through this please!!

grab this from sally's beauty to pull as much of the red from your hair as possible and that should help you get the hair closer to what you're looking for when you dye it.

If you don't bleach first, you'll end up with a brownish color with red tones. I would bleach and then get a toner to help with the brassy red tones (blue/violet cancels out orange/red tones) before applying the brown.
