Question Reality Show about Strippers? problems? oppinions?

my friend recently told me her club was aproached by producers to create a reality show abt girls in the industry, at the club, outside, with their kids, bfs, gfs, just day to day.

which got me wonderi ng. would u agree to be on a show like that? she said they want to portray dancers in a positive light (goi ng to school, trying to get out the industry) and it would be on credible network. say, vh1 or bravo. idk if id do it! she seems all down but idk how the average woman will feel abt it.. would anyone watch it? maybe for the strip club drama.

so idk just wondering how u all feel abt that. curious to see everyones oppinions.

I think its a bad idea, not only would that make stripping more main stream but also no matter how hard they try to make it a "positive light" it going to end up making girl look victimized. Plus reality TV shows are watched by more woman versus men, most (and I mean most house wife steryotypes) don't like strippers. Even young girls I know speak badly about sex workers. Putting strippers on main stream TV is asking for trouble. I think a documentary would be a better idea.

I agree. im having trouble finding positive thoughts about this situation.

the only way it could work is if they did it "girls next door style"
the way they focus on all the fun stuff they get to do (shopping/ hair/ nails/ etc) and completely ignore the elephant in the room (sleeping w hef, in this sitch dancing) but I HIGHLY doubt they would be willing/ successful in doing so. even if they completely glamourize it, theres no way they can get around the fact that it is what it is.

idk. she told me that she has more pros than cons in doing it. but something is telling her to just do it...
    girls crazy haha!

I don't see how it would be protraying dancers in a positive light if it shows them trying to get out of the industry. Once again, it would make stripping look like some evil profession with dancers who only got into it because they were broke/abused/had daddy issues/etc. No, I wouldn't be on the show if they asked me to.

Id do it. Most of these reality shows (jersey shore...jerseylicious...teen mom)...if they go for a second season or longer they pay them bitches a decent chunk of change. Yes they most likely wouldn't portray dancers in the best light...yes it would probably end up being all dramatized and stuff....but if I was getting paid for it, plus publicity...id do it! Even though alot of people can't stand reality show actors....those "actors" are getting paid and laughing all the way to the bank. Id love to be on one of those shows that" everyone loves to hate"

I just finished a documentary on being pregnant and being a stripper.
It was a really great experience.

How it will turn out...I'll find out September 22. However, their previous episodes seemed very real, (in my opinion) showed people in a positive light.

Of course there are still going to be people who don't agree with my life, my choices, or me, but the people that I care about, they know who I really am.

I stayed true to myself throughout the whole thing and not once did I do anything I wouldn't normally do. I was honest with my past, my present and my future.

As for there being a reality series....it seems like most reality series are heavily edited and ...basically, it would most definitely be a drama filled bitch fest, that I would soooooo watch!!!

I think this would be a bad idea. It will likely show the stereotypes because the girls who are sane aren't very exciting. People want to see strippers with baby daddies, on drugs, etc and would get bored with strippers who are students, doing it as a career, etc.

Why would a girl dancing her way through college want to advertise to her family, neighbors, and classmates that she is dancing? Most of the dancers I have known try to conceal that information from them, not to mention prospective employers. Then again, you never know, shows like Jersey Shore are successful, with people seeming to go out of their way to look like morons.

I still have one fav down there so I stop in a few times a year. On my last visit she wasn't working but the bimbo who sat with me and couldn't take the hint that I wasn't going to buy dances was a real piece of work. She told me that she doesn't do anything dirty for just the price of a single dance and that I would have to buy an hour in VIP if I wanted any action (note: I didn't ask and wasn't looking for any "action"). Toward the end of the conversation she mentioned that she had stopped advertising on Back Page and was going to stick with guys that she knew and trusted from the club...

I found it amusing that Shappy is lamenting the lower quality of the dancers in his club. When you allow the place to become a whore house that's pretty much what happens...

I would tend to agree but there is actually a precedent for this. Back in 2000 HBO aired "G-String Divas" for one season. The show was shot in a real strip club in PA and followed the ITC/OTC lives of several dancers. Not sure if any of them ever achieved notoriety beyond the show (wanted or unwanted) but I wondered the same thing back then: What the hell were they thinking!

I put folks from reality TV shows like Jersey Shore into a slightly different category than folks with actual talent. Shows like that are just a bunch of people looking for their 15 minutes of fame. These idiots from JS and shows like Survivor or the Kardashians are the equivalent of a bad car accident. You don't want to look but it's hard not to. I LMAO at Jersey Shore but it's hardly must see TV and, in a few years, I doubt anyone will remember most of those morons...

Sorry but I don't. It does show up on HBO late night occasionally but the series is ten years old now...

    It may be on DVD.

Funny thing is it seems the quality of girls has dropped off after they busted the manager there. They also jacked up all the house fee's and basically fired the entire bartender/wait staff. The only descent place in Prov is Desires...

No, I wouldn't trust it. Reality shows are way too staged. I do remember a stripper reality show/documentary that aired on HBO around 2000 that was pretty good. I believe it was called G String Divas.

No, because I wouldn't want my son on national television for a reality show about me being a stripper. Furthermore, I want to be taken seriously at a psychologist when I graduate so I wouldn't want my face publicized on TV in association with me stripping.

I think this is a bad idea for the same reason Kelly said. It would just portray the bad stereotypes. Student strippers or girls who just do it to make a living but aren't on drugs/have baby-daddy drama/an abusive uncle would be boring to watch. And those kinds of girls probably wouldn't want to do it anyway. You would get the girls with all sorts of issues, who don't mind having their face on tv related to sex work, playing it up. It would bring stripping more into the public eye - but not in a good way...

I came across a show recently called I'm Pregnant and a .... Stripper. It's part of a series on Discovery Fitness about women in different situations and their pregnancies.

I thought it was very well done. You might think they would go for the exploitative angle for drama, but they didn't. The dancer, Jessica, was portrayed in a sympathetic and realistic way. Just a normal mom who happens to dance to make a living.

A whole series focused on strippers would probably be different. I imagine they would ramp up the drama for ratings. But I found this show refreshing for showing strippers as normal people with normal drama.

If it's just following strippers around on a daily basis it sounds really boring.

What would be the difference from following a college student, a single mom dropping her kids off at school, or a drug addict?

Doesn't sound watchable in my opinion.

I balk at the notion that a 'positive' portrayal entails trying to get out of the industry.

If I was planning to dance for the rest of my life, sure why not. I'd do it. Other than that, no. No one would take me seriously with whatever I want to do after that.
