Default How do you get your makeup to look nice on cam?

My makeup looks so natural on cam, I would like it to look like how it is in my avatar photo, but that was done by a professional makeup artist and I did it for a photoshoot.

How can I look Glam on cam without caking the makeup on??

Right now I look like girl next door. lol

    Tips
    Tricks

    Thanks!

put way too much on! you should look absolutely crazy when you look at yourself in the mirror but you will look good on cam. sorry but really the only way is to cake it on.

i cake it on. i use mineral foundation in a lighter colour than my skin. I do about 3 layers of that. then i use a 'dewy' glow mineral foundation i a colour that matches my skin. 1 layer of that. then I contour my nose and cheeks with a mineral foundation that is darker than my skin and then i put so much red/pink blushers on my cheeks that i look like a clown. then i use white eyeshadow and highlight my brows and under bottom lip and edges of nose. Then I plaster my eyelashes in black mascara. In real life I look like a fucking freak that has come out of a mental hospital and landed face down in their mothers makeup draw. but on cam i look like a freekin glamour model and everyone is like WOW your skins so flawless and amazing. Hahaha I have real bad acne and scars everywhere in real life. and I look so bad I can't look the postman in the eye when I answer the door. but it gets me tips so I dont care. god damn i love logitech webcams and their ability to make me look mega hot.

Probably should just experiment. Take some screenshots of your shows and keep making adjustments as you go!

^ What they said exactly. Put on about 4 times more than you normally would. I never want to go out in public like that. But it looks great on cam.

I've been buying brighter shades of red/pink that I wouldn't normally use. I love red lipstick, but I've noticed it looks a bit "brownish" on cam, even the Logitech 9000 tends to wash off colors a little. Do you know what I mean? Those almost "neon" shades of red and pink look great on cam!

By the way, I noticed if you leave the mascara open for a day or 2, it dries a little bit and gets thicker, making it easier to put more, making your lashes look longer and with more volume. I've been using this one, it's cheap (it has to be since I wear it a LOT) and I like it:

Hey there, it's really hard to "explain" how to do your makeup. I'm a licensed cosmetologist & makeup artist. Now you want a "glam" look so nothing says glam other than cateye. Now my makeup never is caked on when i go on cam, it doesn't have to be for me you just need to emphasize on the eyes more. Here's a tutorial I did for a sexy cateye. I hope my tutorial will help you out. If you want to know any products i used just PM me , or just want to know anything else in general. (Ps. Angelique Cherie is my rl name)shhh!! dont tell haha

Cake it on. Thats the only way to do it. Like others said, when I do a glamourous look for cam, I look like a crazy woman in person...Tammy Faye Baker would prolly be like "awe hon, thats too much!"

But thats what works. And gloss. The shinest stickest grossest gloss you can find. Looks amazing on cam. And eyeliner...if I do nothing else....line the crap out of my eyes. Think Heath Ledger as the Joker...except dramatic.

Seriously though...thats what youve gotta do for it to show up. And its not only that but the type and quality of the makeup you use. Your makeup artists more likely than not used products specifically for the camera. It doesnt take a lot, but its *highly* pigmented. I use Ben Nye and Joe Blasco for this reason...I dont have to put a lot on, but the difference over anything storebought (yes, including MAC) is amazing.

So its not just how you put it on, but what you are using. You can definitely use storebought though, just go for high pigmentation, and/or layer it on. Another thing, I often put my makeup on using my cam instead of a mirror.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

I have found that looking natural and not a complete mess works.

Do what accents for you instead of overdoing it.

Ohhh, that is such a good idea. I've put my makeup on in my mirror and thought it looked great, only to look crappy on cam.

It's nice to hear I'm not the only person with not perfect skin! I'm having a horrible break out right now and its discouraging me frog beginning camming. Thanks for the tips I'll be sure to slather on the paint!

I only cake it when it's for something special. LOL.

I guess I have found the way to make it natural or really sexy gothic when I need to!

It does depend on your lighting. I've got a pretty hardcore lighting set-up and that requires some pretty hardcore war paint. And...

    * Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder. Doesn't cake. Knocks out shine. I can't recommend this powder enough for camming.

I don't bother with foundation, I am WAY too lazy to put it on or take it off after, so just a few dabs of undereye concealer - there are so many settings on cam where you can make your skin look virtually flawless god bless cams for that!
I do a v.similar cat eye to the one in LeahBabii's clip, though nowhere near as gorgeous obviously.

The look I tend to go for is 'sophisticated tramp'. Haha. Comments I get are 95% about pretty/wow/model/cheekbones so I guess I'm doing something right.

I cake mine on also. I have oily skin so I make sure I put extra powder on my those areas. With the lights, my face can look shiny on cam without it. On eyes, lips and cheeks layer it on. It may look like too much in person but you will look glam on cam!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with flaws! Tonight will be my first night going on the cam, and I'm nervous! I looked up a lot of makeup tutorials last night. I love the idea about caking it on. Search through the drag queen makeup tutorials on YouTube to get a better idea. Yes, it's "dramatic" but you can alter it to make it your own look.

Lmao i love that 'sophisticated tramp' seriously made me lol

    Haha, thank you
I dont put on foundation either i just add concealer under my eyes the one i used in my tutorial. I mostly emphasize on my eyes since that's where i get most of my compliments. I did that cateye look yesterday and it seemed to have done well, lots of compliments + a good day. So i guess it worked haha

Thats a really good point....good lighting washes out your skin instantly and completely. Even just to look natural and healthy looking takes makeup to do.

Its not about looking heavily made up...its about looking *normal* And if you want to look like you have makeup on, then youve got to get made up hardcore for it to even look like you even tried.

Depends on the lighting you are using while camming.

www.CameraReadyCosmetics.com Great for shoots and camming, the expense is worth it. It last a long time.

Look at yourself on cam. I go with bright blush to look normal, but then I use professional lights to that my room and me are lit well.

Red lips or bright pink get's guys to take me private. Drives them wild.

If going with a smoky eye then go lighter color on the lips.

There are some good makeup books like Kevin's you can buy.

Dont use shiny or glowing foundation, you will just look shiny and needing more powder. Plus the light reflects it wrong and gives you clown face.

    Experiment and have fun.

FLASH Eyelashes. Really make the eye's pop.
Dior Show mascara is the best. Rated #1 all the time. I love it

Thanks so much for all of the responses!!! I guess I will have to cake it on!lol I will try it out tomorrow for sure! You ladies are fantastic! I also love the cat eye video, and the trick of using pigmented foundation. That helps. Next time I buy foundation I will look for that.
