I'm going to stick up for the guy & say he not a idiot...HUNKER DOWN..lol The idiot is the guy surfing the hurricane![]()
Depends on where he is hunkering down....
Hotel, inland a little....got a couple days of water & some food.......
should be no problem, as long as he doesnt need to get out of there for a couple of days......

I ask myself this about 5-6 times a week for various things. I still love him though.

Yes every now and then I'll think this... but not often enough for me to be worried about it.![]()

Every single day of the 5 years I was married. Okay wait no....to be honest, I didnt feel that way until after we had been married for a week and a half...
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!
From what I've read about this hurricane, unless he's in an area prone to storm surge and/or flooding, "hunkering down" in a safe place, with proper provisions, is likely safe. I have been in a couple of Cat 1 or 2 storms myself (one of them also ironically named "Irene" in 1999) and have never had a major problem. The power went out for a couple of days, and all was well. Where is he exactly? That makes a huge difference. If he is in a mandatory evac zone, then he should move inland.

^ Yeah we've been through worse huricanes in florida and as long as you're inside and you know not laying, walking, surfing, on the beach I'm sure he'll be o.k. I thought there was another one named irene when I fist moved here........

Flooding and falling objects are the biggest hazards in a hurricane. If he's not in an area near shore or going to flood, he'll probably be okay. I was in a house where a cat 2 went directly over and it was fine. Just one broken window. It was cool to go outside in the eye and see how calm everything was. But if you do that, get back inside quickly because the other side of the eye wall comes up fast and silent.
It's all about hunkering...lol my new fav word.

I ask myself why I'm married to an idiot. :/
Why do I continue to love an idiot...I dunno...I guess I'M the idiot. *shrugs*

My first husband, on the regular. My current husband, never.

I never say that, actually. I'm the one who lacks common sense, so I guess he's the one who married an idiot.

Sorry if this is a threadjack, but this hurricane is one occasion where I'll forgive New Yorkers for acting like they're the center of the universe. Hunkering down is one thing for people within most hurricane prone areas of the US because traveling inland is comparatively easier. The problem with New York is that in order to go inland, you have to travel over at least one bridge if not several. I'm pretty sure that the barrier islands like Long Beach have to go over at least three bridges in order to reach mainland. Combine this with the fact that the vast majority of New Yorkers don't drive and the ones who do face horrible traffic congestion. And to top it off nobody will have a clue what to do what to do because they've never considered the possibility that it could happen to them. Pretty shitty situation.
I don't think your husband will die, I just think he might be stuck in a potentially ravaged city longer than he anticipates. As far as stupidity goes, I've noticed that otherwise smart and sane men will do dumb shit like this even more often than the truly stupid ones. Maybe it's a macho thing or maybe they're just good at rationalizing, but hopefully he'll learn his lesson after this if the worst case scenario actually does happen.

Nevermind, I guess I think NYC is the center of the universe too because I automatically assumed that's where he would be doing business.

^^^What are you saying???? NYC ISN'T the center of the universe.

He's in NYC and DC. My dad and his family as re in NYC on Staten Island so I worry about them as well but theyve been through this.
My dad gave all of his employees Mon and Tues off to prepare for the hurricane.

Optimist: Just referring to how a lot of people from NY tend to act like the city is the most important place in the world. I live a few hours away and know tons of people who live there, and even though I love them sometimes it's obnoxious.

If flooding will be a problem, evacuate. If it is just wind wait it out.

Haha yes! My favorite interaction with a New Yorker ever:
"Where do you live?"
"Albany"
"Why? Do you ever plan on moving to the city?"
"I dunno, I like to think you can find fulfillment wherever you are. I love to visit though."
*Confusion*
ETA a conversation with one of my best friends:
(Me) "Why don't you ever come visit me?"
(Her) "What would we even do in Albany?"
"I dunno.. hang out... you could meet my friends..."
*Silence*
"We could go on a nature walk and look for bears..."
"OMFG I'M NEVER COMING TO ALBANY"

haha! I'm from Queens originally. When we moved upstate, I was 16. My first day of school I come home and I'm on the phone with my mom and she goes, how was school? And I go we did a 2mi walk in the woods for gym. And she goes, oh that's nice, and I say, no mom, you didn't hear me, we did a TWO MILE WALK IN THE WOODS. There were cows! LMAO.
