Default How do clubs today compare to back in 2009?

I haven't worked in a club since May 2009. In fact, i haven't even been in a club since then. I got out for many reasons, but some of those reasons included: my money had taken a drastic nose drive, girls in the club- friend sof mine- started doing nasty shit for money, I graduated college, and I gained 15 lbs in a single month and became super self concious about it.

I was let go from my job a few weeks ago. And, I kind of miss dancing. Granted, when I think about it, I think about the early 2000s when shit for me was fanfriggintastic. I'm scared of what it might be like now. How does it compare to 2008/ 2009 when the economy turned to shit. Has it gotten ANY better? Same? Worse? What should I expect?

I would like to say I've seen business pick up, but truthfully I think I've just improved the way I work. I also travel so the club I was in exactly 2 years ago I was last at in May, which is a whole different story.

my money had taken a drastic nose drive
again, depending on the exact location, the decline in customer spending that took place in 2009 ... but which got a bit better over the course of 2010 and early 2011 ... is now likely to be declining again. This is arguably due to the apparent 'double dip' that's taking place now that stimulus spending and FED QE money printing have come to an end. Manhattan, for example, is now beginning to see major declines in club spending by bankers and brokers due to major layoffs in those industries. Of course, certain specific locations may be doing better than ever due to 'local' economic conditions improving.

girls in the club- friends of mine- started doing nasty shit for money
This is again to be expected as girls who need to earn X dollars a night to pay their bills must 'find a way' to collect a larger percentage of the fewer total customer dollars being spent in the club. Also, the elevated customer expectations level re 'nasty shit' which became significant in 2008-2009 never really went back down in 2010 ... and is arguably likely to get even worse in a 'double dip' economy situation later this year.

I think about the early 2000s when shit for me was fanfriggintastic
I hear you there !!! The 'decline' between then and now ( in both earnings potential and customer appreciation / respect ) is the reason I decided to retire altogether as the signs of economic decline started to become apparent in 2008.

I was let go from my job a few weeks ago
Well this of course brings up another point that arguably remains true today. Even with a fresh college degree, given today's straight job unemployment levels and the offers being made to new graduates, the earnings potential of exotic dancers is still going to be significantly higher ... even though today's dancer earnings potential is merely a 'shadow' of what it was 10 years ago.

There's less money, more competition, and a ton of extras girls running around.

since 2009? well now we have cars to drive to work instead of taking a dinosaur carriage. And we have electricity for the lights. Oooo and we have hip hop and electronica music.

seriously though, not much has changed as far as i can see. i dont think 2 yrs is a long time in the scheme of things. unless you work in a location where some bizarre law was recently passed or a club was raided or something very drastic happened economically then it should be same same.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

^ Guys have been asking that since I started in 93. It depends on were your located I guess. I travel and things are about the same if I go to the same areas I know have conventions, events etc. I do notice it's getting a bit harder to get guys to part with their money but they still do just need more persuading. If your in a small town that doesn't get tourists, conventioners, events or traveling businessmen I think you will be the most likely to notice alot less earnings potential.

For me 2010 was certainly better than this year.

I plan on having an excellent next quarter though.

Earnings are up, touching is up, haha! Too many chicks resorted to being naughty as a way to earn more money in the recession and now guys expect it. But I'm from LA so what do I care, it's the norm there, I'm used to them thinking they can get away with everything. In Tucson I'm happy if they're only trying to touch my boobs and not anything else.

Summary: things are on the upswing and when temperatures go down, money goes up.

A number of clubs are a lot more anal these days. Some of the clubs dictate just how high they want the heels to be and managers at a number of clubs dictate what type of music they want to hear instead of allowing the dancers to select their own.

There are definitely more extras being done. If not between the dancer and customer, its going on between the dancer and manager or club owner(s). Even the clean girls have started to get dirty.

2010 was a great year for me, '09 was a not quite as good but still better than this year. There are some strict codes from music in one place I work in. The other one, where I make the most $, if you don't play rap, hip-hop or electronica, guys won't pay attention on stage.

I heard about some club in which they demand dancers wear nothing but clear heels and they have to buy their bikinis from the club. And of course there is a huge mark up in price. I don't know the name, but it's in downtown LA somewhere.

    ^
No way I would ever go there. When my artistic freedom gets taken away from me, that's when i walk. Control over music is one thing. I can always find something I like in a genre I don't particularly care for. But telling me what shoes to wear??! Um...NO!

I started in 2009 and I make more than I did in 2009. 2010 was a very good year and so is 2011. But also probably had to do with being a newbie, I sucked and didn't know how to be "sexy". Now I look better, have better curves, know how to do my makeup right, better at hustling, etc.

I work the cash cage, and I make more in tips most nights than the majority of the dancers. There are s few that do well consistently, but they tend to be big time hustlers, as well as being physically flawless.
