    Default HELP

Here's the backstory of the ups and downs of my hair with pictures of ombre highlights on the second page: http://forum.stripperweb.com/showthread.php?t=157223

So I went back again hoping for a Gisele type light brown/dark blonde subtle ombre and my stylist was like "You're miles away from dark blonde, let's just try lightening the ends a little and tone out the brass." She was wrong and my hair is level 9 BLONDE with three inches of dark brown at the roots. Can I lighten the roots without bleaching them, like if I put a light brown drugstore dye on them would it lift at all? I have to go to work tomorrow and don't have time to go back HELP

...where on earth did you end up going for this? Jeebus, you have the WORST experiences with stylists in the Capital District. Once again, I recommend Sarah at Rumors...but in the meanwhile, I guess you could probably get an at-home dye. Though I don't know how well your hair will take to being colored so frequently in such a short period of time. Maybe get a temporary dye, one of those that lasts like 10 washings? Then you can take your time consulting with a professional stylist about the best remedy. Take pics before you dye it, though, so they know what they're dealing with. Plus, remember that any hair lightening involves some type of bleach, which will give you that orange-y look for a bit. Even when I get my hair highlighted, the highlights look a tad bleachy for a few washings.

This was at Rumors with Christine!!! So far I've gotten compliments from people who are into super trendy hair and one guy I know said it was hot, but everyone else has been like "Are you supposed to look like you haven't gotten your hair done in months?" I think the roots will be fine as far as damage goes if I color them again. The blonde itself is alright, surprisingly. It's warm but not orangey and I think purple shampoo will tone it down further. I think I'll try putting that brass-free whatever brand dark blonde on the roots for a bit because what's the worst that can happen at this point? Ugh.

I'm not sure if your dark roots are your natural color or if they're the product of a dye... Either way, you cannot go lighter without a lifter. Color on top of color only goes darker :/

If the roots are a product of dye, you can try methods other than bleach though, like Color Oops! a product that is supposed to be more gentle. I forget the chemical terminology, but basically, it shrinks the dye particles so that they wash out. But you MUST rinse it a lot. Otherwise, when any dye is put back in (regardless of the color of the dye), it will go straight back to the dark shade. If used properly, it will take out the top layer of dye in your hair. Keep in mind though that if it gets on the rest of your hair, it might strip the blonde out of your bleached highlights, returning them to that brassy straight-out-of-the-foil shade.

I had highlights that I didn't like once and I basically just dyed over them. If you get a color similar to your base shade with a red filler in it, then you shouldn't have a problem getting the highlighted bits to look normal. They may be a bit lighter than the rest of your hair, but mine turned out like dark/light brown highlights in nearly black hair.

Which one is Christine? If it's the fat chick with the weird short, scraggly hair and the attitude, STAY AWAY. She butchered my hair once...seriously cut it super crooked, and a stylist at DV noticed it. My mom recommended Sarah to me, because Sarah has super long hair and knows how to work with it, and I have stuck with Sarah ever since.

Christine is super pretty actually!!! Brunette, long wavy hair. I liked what she did with the ombre before and I'm pretty sure she could fix this, I just don't have the time to go back. I honestly don't think this is just a result of horrible incompetence on her part, just a freak of nature occurrence because the color my hair was earlier today should not lift to level 9 blonde in one go, and last time it was difficult for her to bring my hair up even a couple of shades. Everyone was like WTF including myself. Still not totally excusable though.

I smushed some light brown dye in it to bridge the light and dark sections. It's better now but still looks a little crazy.

Here's how my quick fix turned out. Regardless of whether it is good or bad ombre I'm having an identity crisis. Am I a blonde now? What does it mean to be blonde!? My hair was close black for ten years. I'm barely wearing makeup in these pics whereas I had to wear tons when I was dark so maybe it's a sign it's not so bad?

I think it looks nice! Mine has lightened tremendously, it's way more blonde! I have had natural almost black hair for over ten years, and this is a shock to me too.... it's hard, I know, but enjoy the change, and know that it's just hair and you can ALWAYS dye it all back to dark.

That is such a wonderful compliment! Apparently I have an aptitude for balayage lowlights because it's starting to look more ombre and less like a lazy blonde who hasn't touched up her roots in months. IMO every traditionally sexy/stylish celeb of the last five years has some degree of ombre so I'm happy to be getting there (or have gotten there already!).

    Also please post pics!

I hate not being photogenic! I think I fixed it more though, let me know what you think J.D. I lost some blonde but I'm sure it'll come back in a couple weeks.

This isn't how I could choose to style it btw, I was just too lazy to do anything with it. I prefer it curly/wavy.

For a true ombre though, I feel like they should start the color change from your chin down.

Thank you! I agree with your definition of ombre and I would've loved to have it but I felt like adding subtler highlights and lowlights was the easiest fix. Work tonight as a blonde was amazing btw. I had a pretty high acceptance rate as a brunette but a lot of customers would want to chat me up for a song before spending. Tonight all I did was "wanna dance" and it worked 90% of the time!! So nice.
