Default Using a stationary bike to lose fat

Anybody use a stationary bike to control fat? I bought a perfectly good stationary bike for $40 at a garage sale next door a month ago and it's been awesome. I get on it for a half hour every morning and it's been doing wonders for taking off belly fat. I'm not fat, but I've wanted a tighter stomach for so long and now I'm finally getting there! I'm pumped. I'm so glad I bought it!

I don't personally like them but my dad did lose over 50lbs riding one everyday. He also walked about an hour a day.

Any cardio is going to be good for fat loss. Glad you're enjoying it though!
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

I am a road cyclist, averaging 20-45 miles a day, 60-75 when training. Cycling is fab for weight loss and toning thighs. To get the maximum benefit interval sprints with maintaining your normal cadence with resistance turned up, lean forward from waist to simulate dropbars if you don't have them( it is more efficient to be in this position as it puts focus on thighs, keep your ass back far enough on seat bc nose riding doesn't do anything and can hurt you), Try to keep a quiet upper body and using lower half mostly, and lastly get out of the seat and climb! Climbing is so amazing for strength, cardio, firming ass and coordination. Really, 10 mins of intense climbs is roughly equal to 45 mins of brisk pace. It's painful at first but if you focus on your breathing technique during it helps as does pulling up on bars.

If you have clip pedals, all the more help. Not only are you pushing down, but now you can pull up. the mechanics of pulling up are better watched on youtube than explained.

Enjoy it and perhaps think about getting outside.

I made the mistake of trying to lose belly fat by using ab crunches which didn't work- it increased muscle but didn't reduce fat, which is what I wanted.

    No prob Clement.

When starting climbing Blonde-Ambition go slow and focus on your breath, in out with belly extending on inhale. Rocking weight from push down leg helps since you're getting extra momentum, don't be afraid of losing balance either, that's why your core is tight

Stationary bikes make my vagina go numb. But I ride a bicycle everywhere I can't get to on foot or by train and it has made my calves look awesome! As long as your vagina is all right your calves will probably become awesome too.

Genital pain is a result of improper saddle height, wrong type of saddle, wrong fore/aft tilt of nose, too much/too little padding.

As in all things with bikes, moving or not, everything has to be tweaked.
    - Wrong height- your pushing too much weight around and probably bouncing on saddle as thighs going too high on pedal stroke sway hips.
-Wrong saddle- so many factors go in this. Some women need a WSD(women's specific device) with wider back to support wider ischial tuberosity(sit bones). You can be measured for this at any Specialized dealer(huge high quality bike brand). Sometimes you need a "split saddle", one with a cutout in the base of saddle to relieve pressure. Sometimes you need a certain geometry, ie flatter designs(beware of stitching), concave, smooth, textured, long nose, short nose, etc. Depending on the bike, your riding style(whether you ride on nose or ass backed up) and your comfort padding comes into effect. Road style seats are more aggressive ie smaller, narrower, harder a few millimeters of padding. Or you can do a more comfort oriented foam, varying degrees. Do NOT buy anything with gel, Gel is Evil just like oil on a pole. It causes friction= saddle sores= you dont even want to know.

Your ass hurting is going to happen and eventually you will HTFU, but if riding it is discomfort, not pain, and if you feel it anywhere other than your sitbones get a new saddle.

-Saddle tilt, some people like the nose tipped up to "cradle" the pelvis, I do just a millimeter or two. Seat can also be adjusted forward or back depending on thigh length and riding style.

My best advice is to just get a multi tool like this
and just tinker around with it. Get a colored sharpie to mark position before you start for reference and after adjustment. Multi tools are fab for bikes.
