Default Best way to cut steel pole shorter

    Hi everyone,

I got an xpole stage, but it is a bit too tall and need to cut off a foot. It's around 2" in diameter and the steel is 1/8" thick.

I've read that you can use a hacksaw (18 pitch or 32...referring to the number of teeth on the hacksaw) or a pipe cutter (one at Home Depot is around $150..basically you screw it on the pipe, and keep spinning the thing round and round, retighten, spin... it might give a clean cut. The guy from home depot in the tool rental department said you can buy it then return it ...I know I know...morally grey area lol).

Has anyone had an experience using a hacksaw to cut it?
The Home Depot I called said they don't have pipe cutters where you can get it cut there, and the lumber department doesn't cut metal.
Tried calling a sheet metal place but they are closed for the holiday.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks so much for your help! Eager to use the pole soon!

They don't have a machine that cuts pipe? What kinda crappy Home Depot is that? Try Lowes. Or a nearby Home Depot. I made my own pole with pipe from Home Depot and they had to cut one of them and it took like 5 minutes and it was really cheap. The machine cuts the pipe perfectly and they can put rivets on it too if you need that.

Call Kimara at xpole. She can help you work out what size pieces to get to make it the right height.

X-Stage does not come with different extensions. Just 2 long main pieces. You need 10ft3in to get it up. Over this height they recommend cutting the top off the pole. (buy a 2nd piece so you can use it at full height in the future too)
if you can, take the cap off the top before cutting, so you can pop it back on for a smooth finish.

I've not cut one myself, But yeah, they recommend a hacksaw.

Can you take the top piece to a hardware store and get them to do it for you? It would only take a couple of seconds, it would be done safely - I bet if you could get it done for free if you tell them its a pole dancing pole LOL! (got loads of stuff done like this!)

Thanks for your help everyone! Appreciate it.

Sorry should have specified it's the X-stage lite version (a lower stage, not as heavy and as high-up stage portion as the regular X-stage (maybe the regular X-stage comes in several pieces...or the x-poles without stages come in several pieces?). Yes it only came in two pieces (the pole).
We ended up getting a hack saw (the 18 bit hacksaw worked...they say the fewer the teeth the better). We didn't even have to use the clamps we bought . We just put a piece of towel over the stage, marked it with tape, I sat the the pole and held it down, and had a friend saw it with the hacksaw. Took about ten minutes.
The pipe cutter device where you keep twirling and tightening looked like it'd take forever. We managed to get a pretty clean cut with just the hack saw, and it was clean enough to be able to fit the top cap back on it without any problem.
Again thanks everyone for the input!

If you can't find a hardware store to cut it. Just use a hacksaw. I cut my pole to size last year. Go slow and make sure it's an even cut. If you want I also shaved off the metal barbs left behind with a small metal file. You should be able to get a hacksaw for $15 and you dont need any sort special blade just the one it comes with.
