    Default xtreme bloating before period?

Its actually to the point where I look very very apple shaped, scratch that I look pregnant a week before my rag I can't work and I go up from being comfortable at a size 5/6 pants to an unbuttoned size 7/8. As soon as I start my period I'm back to my toned self. What can I do to fix this I'm uncomfortable and it just adds to my downed mood. Anybody have some quick fixes? Or will I have to wait it out every month?

    are you constipated?

blackstrap molasses helps when I'm on my period or right before. Supposedly if you regularly take it it makes your period much easier.

    I don't know honestly.

If you need something asap you can either take epsom salts or vitamin c. They'll both flush your system. If you have little clear vitamin capsules (even if you have to empty vitamins out of them) and put the epsom salts in them, that's easiest. Otherwise two tablespoons in a big glass of water, chug, and hang onto your toilet!

Vitamin C take 2 grams every ten minutes until you have diarrhea. Drink lots of water in either case.

But get some blackstrap tomorrow. You want the unsulphered. Walmart might have it. I always get mine at whole foods or a similar place.

I've the same problem - my last period even coincided with a full moon.

I hate to give stock advice but before or during if I can get myself to the gym and in to the sauna I feel loads better. Even if it's just that I got myself there and did a workout! Good luck, definitely am not looking forward to this week, hopefully some blackstrap will help!

^warning: it tastes gnarly. I can take it straight because I appreciate what it does for me (when I have a bottle-- don't at the moment.) But if you have a blender, I'd blend up some fruit and mix it in.

I think its natural. This happens to me too! But it goes away right after. I just try to avoid carbs and salty food. Helps a little. I think bloat is just different for everyone because your uterus is expanding/contracting to shed the lining, and everyone's uterus is completely different. That's why some pregnant women are tiny (or don't even know they are pregnant til the baby is born!! mind=blown), and other women are HUGE at like 4 months.

Haha, thank you! Would've hated to have found that out for myself...
I've already got some mixes in mind, I'll keep this thread updated!

Question: Do you like to take it as needed during your period, or do you like to take it in advance to take the edge off? I've got a few days left to pick up a bottle but obviously am feeling the effects of some bad bloat. I'm intrigued!

Warning: I will be talking about bleeding such that it would be TMI if I wasn't trying to offer a way to judge how BSM affects my period. So a heads up.

Well, for one thing-- read the earthclinic thread on PMS. Granted, I find all this stuff fascinating but the blackstrap molasses has many anecdotes from different people dealing with heavy PMS symptoms, bleeding, cramps, and uterine cysts.

What I can say is that if I catch my cramps just right, I can take 8 200mg pills of Ibprofen every five or six hours and it will take away most of the cramps but oftentimes I still feel a little bit of it.
For those who take Ibprofen for their periods, I saw something in a magazine (I'm pretty sure it was an Oprah mag but can't cite it properly) that said to take your regular anti-cramp dose of Ibprofen a few days before your period is supposed to it. That helps a little bit but I've only done it twice so I can't say if it's really helping or if I'm just had the easier periods that roll around from time to time.

As far as the blackstrap molasses, once I start my period and feel the cramps (and the first day is the worst-- without anything I have to lay in bed and just stare at the ceiling or roll into a ball) I take three ginormous tablespoons of BSM and chug water down. I do this instead of the Ibprofen. Within about ten or twenty minutes the cramps ease away and I can go about my day like I'm normal. From what I recall, I also poop very easily within maybe 30 minutes to an hour. But I have to keep an eye on the clock or have some BSM with me because 4-6 hours later I'm going to have to do the same thing. Now, this works for me-- and I think it's a testament to how well it works for me that there's been times when I've cracked open a bottle of BSM in the whole foods parking lot and literally CHUGGED like my life depended on it to get relief from my cramps.

Anyway, another thing that I've noticed about it, aside from it helping constipation, and you'll notice because your poops will just *slide* out of you like mush but not watery diarrhea, is that I don't have to wear a tampon or a pad. Now, if you're working you absolutely should (or a seas sponge, my favorites.) But since I typically allow myself to not do a damn thing on the first couple of days of my period, I'll just do my normal errands and such.

When I use the restroom, and urinate, there's larger almost more solid blobs of the blood jelly that comes out. I'll wipe and there's some blood but it only bleeds onto the inside of my jeans (or my underoos when I'm not going commando_ when I wait too long to go to the bathroom-- but very rarely is it the amount of blood that has me running for a tampon. And there haven't been any embarrassing bleed throughs. This is something to experiment-- I just don't care that much to wear the tampons or pads and since I still take it easy the first couple of days, I'm okay with going to the bathroom more often (but it's not a ridiculous amount-- like maybe once every two hours.)

I think I have a normal flow though so I don't know how it will affect everyone else.
I can say one odd thing does occur: I'll bleed for three or four days and then the next day there will be NO blood, and then I'll bleed for maybe one more day after that. It's very strange but interesting.

Anyway, read the threads and maybe it'll help. Get the unsulphered type, and I can attest that it has given me relief from constipation, cramps, and I also think it's helped when I've had some PMS craziness such that my boyfriend sees an actual difference in my bitchiness level (normally related to being in pain) so he'll occasionally ask if I should go pick up some BSM for my period. And he's not a super alt-health type person at all I also hypothesize that I get more "off" like more bitchy, anxious, unsatisfied--maybe a little bit more angsty when I'm constipated, which makes sense when your body cannot eliminate the toxins like it's supposed to. For a couple of years I was having severe issues with constipation such that I often had to rely on vitamin c flushes or epsom salt flushes maybe 2-3 times a month. And even then I think I was only going like two times a week and it would hurt. This was before I read about the blackstrap molasses (which worked for one of my parents for the same issue, but strangely didn't work for my sibling despite us taking similar doses-- though my parent took theirs in warm coffee to make it more palatable.)

However, as a side note-- when I learned that Distilled water is not good for prolonged periods of time because it starts to suck out vitamins and minerals and not just toxins (distilled is used for a lot of cleanses and I think I equated that with better so drank nothing but distilled water mostly for 2 years except when I was at restaurants) and started drinking spring water or possibly reverse osmosis water with minerals added back in, I noticed an improvement in my bowel movements. Not miraculous but I think in the past couple of years I've normalized now that I only notice constipation (for the most part) around my period, and am going maybe five times a week (without pain for the vast majority of time) where I used to go maybe two times a week. So keep in mind that water, and what's in or not in your water can be affecting your health in ways you wouldn't think.

    Back to the blackstrap molasses:
It is full of awesome stuff and supposedly is even better when you're taking a daily dose. I need to go get a bottle and have for awhile so most of the time I don't remember until I start to get constipated a few days before my period hits.

Here's a link that says all the stuff that BSM is good for-- you can see the little list on the right hand side and click to different pages to see different things it addresses:
    http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/molasses.html

I also saw you can mix it in milk. I don't like milk but I could see mixing it in Almond milk and I'm going to get some tomorrow and try that.

This. this. this! I ended up picking up some blackstrap at WF this morning and the difference was huge, even in the way I felt. Thank you so much! I'm having lots of fun trying out mixes - the almond milk was a good idea!

ha ha, guess what time of the month it is and who's without BSM still?

Yeah, what a pain. It's still on my "to get" list since the last bottle has been gone for awhile.

Glad the vitamin c worked for you

I feel you, I gain 7+ lbs for 5 days once a month, and it's all in my uterus.

I usually take water pills and drink a lot of green tea.

Never heard of the Blackstrap Molasses. Have to try that next month I guess....
