Default Scrape your tongue with a spoon!

I floss everyday, and brush and even occasionally oil pull which helps but lately I've been noticing a slight mouth funk that I associate with people who don't floss meaning I have to go to the dentist to clean all the places I can't get myself, like my pockets.

Anyway, I was reading on earthclinic after checking some stuff due to the PMS/bloating thread, and started looking at other stuff including halitosis (which I certainly do not have but still the mild funk bugs me.)

So one person recommended scraping your tongue with a spoon, which I've done before, but when I've bought a tongue scraper. I haven't had one in quite awhile and since a spoon is as good as a store bought one I went into the kitchen grabbed one and started scraping my tongue in the bathroom.

The STUFF that came OFF of my tongue! I must have scraped my tongue like six or seven times and while it got less and less there was still visible white crud. It definitely wasn't spit though there was some mixed in with that, but wow!

Then I scrubbed my mouth with my toothbrush and then added tea tree oil (never done this before) and scrubbed my tongue very well. It tasted really bitter but I kept going and then spit, rinsed, and brushed again without the tea tree oil to help get it off since I didn't want to swallow it.

And I was left with a healthy looking pink tongue! I'm going to try a few other things mentioned on earth clinic including charcoal and diatomaceous earth and of course some more oil pulling once I find my walnut oil.

But I'm still amazed at all the stuff that came off my tongue! Try it! Even without the tea tree oil, scrape with a spoon and see!

When I've bought them, typically it was during one of my late night wanderings at the local 24/hour CVS.

But try the spoon thing. From what I remember, I'd scrape my tongue (it's like a little plastic rake with tiny little nubs for those who don't know) and I'd see lines down my tongue and my tongue would get sore pretty quick from my scraping.

Despite my numerous spoon scrapings I didn't find I had that issue but then-- I've only tried it the once. Try it and compare. But yeah-- drugstores or grocery store should have 'em.

I just brush my tongue in the morning when my stomach is empty.

I do to but I was still surprised. But then again, I only brush my tongue for maybe twenty seconds so maybe that's it.

Plastic spoons > metal spoons for this.

I brush my Tongue every time I brush my teeth. When I'm at home I floss and use mouthwash also. Nofunk in my mouth.

My dentist told me that brushing your tonuge is worse than doing nothing. It helps spread the bacteria that is on your tongue.

I also use a scraper and I get white crud too....yuck...but I think it helps my breath smell better.

Not to seem weird or anything but my husband is an acupuncturist and if you are having bad breath/tongue gunk it means something is out of balance with your body. See and acupuncturist, and if you're needle-phobic (I am), they can give you an herbal tea...plus, you'll feel a crazy amount better even if you don't feel ill now.

My bf had chronic bad funky breath so I got him this product called 12 Hour Fresh Breath Smart Mouth Mouthwash I found at cvs, and his breath was no longer bad at all and didn't even have morning breath. It really works, and I now use it for work and before bedtime, and when I wake up - amazingly no morning breath!. It's supposed to keep your breath smelling good for 12 hours straight, but for me it actually stays nice longer. There's a girl at work whom I'd love to recommend this to her but she is sensitive and we're not super close. Maybe combine this with the tongue scraping would be a great idea. People associate others with bad breath to have funky internal organs as well, like something's not right in there.
