Default lace wigs or just sew in clips?

    Hello ladies,

I just bought a human-hair wig but it doesn't contain lace. I'm new to wigs and would like to start wearing them for work.
I was wondering about how necessary is it to have a lace-front or full-lace wig. Does it really help keep it stuck on your head the entire night, or can I do ok with just hand-sewing in some extensions clips behind the ear part of the wig and on top of the crown? Does the stick-on adhesive bother you (i'd rather not use glue because I think glue keeps it on for a few weeks..and I can take off the wig if I just use the stick on adhesive). I won't do any major pole tricks, maybe just a few basic spins etc when wearing the wig, no upside down stuff.
By the way, it pays to shop around. I went to a store today, they wanted 400 for the wig, and went online and found the same exact one for around 200! Thanks so much!!

IMO get a regular human hair wig please! Personally I hate lace front wigs. Who are ladies fooling with that? There are several groups on FB boycotting lacefront wigs. You pay all the extra money and for what? Please just get a great sew-in and call it a night or a great "regular" wig. *shooting the lacefront right now* If you are concerned about it during pole tricks, do as a friend once showed me. Pin the wig down using bobby pins and secure it to your other hair. Test it out and keep it moving. Yes I have seen girls wigs fall off during pole tricks and man talk about a good laugh.

    Hi Candy,

Thanks for your input. I'll just add lots of clips in the real-hair wig i got. The bobby pins are a good idea. The glueing seems to be a pain with the lacefronts. I'll google what you mean about ladies against the lace-fronts. Yes they are more expensive. Thanks!

You are welcome! Always down to help a fellow comrad out. BTW with all the glueing, eventually it will lead to hair loss in those areas. I have seen it! Then you will HAVE to wear them all the time because u will have no edges or your natural hairline starts to disappear. Good luck! IMO save your money.

I like lace fronts. You can sew extra clips onto a well-fitted piece and use tape where you need it. Full lace & lace fronts can be worn daily or for long periods of time.... I like that versatility!

Check out the "glueless lace wigs" on google. Make sure they specify "hard lace"... you can ask them if the wigs feature "hard lace"... hard lace is supposed to form to your scalp. Soft lace features a yucky elastic band around the perimeter (even in the front)-- and that can be very unnatural-looking. So watch out.

Honestly, a lace wig-- with fine lace-- good quality hair-- bleached knots-- a well sized cap-- etc. Can be a lovely option. I highly advise the lace-curious to try a cheaper or synthetic option first. BHM (blackhairmedia.com) has some affordable pieces for sale from person to person. So give it a shot.

    I'm a fan.

I also love Sew In Weaves... but if you don't wanna dye your hair to match the weave color I think lace wigs or lace fronts are the very best option.

Thanks ladies for your all the tips!

I guess with glueing you need to make sure you don't glue on your hairline (which is hard to avoid if you wig does not have a bang in front)...and use the glue-dissolver before trying to pull it off.
I saw a Naomi Campbell picture online (don't know if it was fake or not) with a really bad hairline...maybe people were glueing and taping to her actual hair, which is super-bad!
Thanks for the heads-up about the soft-lace thing (the elastic thing around the permieter). Good to know and will ask about that.
I'm looking at a non-lace Remi and a glue-less Remi lace cap (it has a few combs and lace in front in back in case I want to glue it down). Yaay wig searching is exciting
Also heard that the mesh stocking caps are the way to go (they are more breatheable than the regular stocking caps).
    Thanks again ladies

Google black hair media forum. It is the main spot for learning about lace fronts and how to apply them. I suggest you do searches first and check out the newbie lace front section before asking a bunch of questions because although the ladies can be helpful they get vicious especially towards newbies. With simple searches you'll more than likely find the answers to your questions and neat tricks about non glue application.

Why not get a sew-in with human hair? It was the best thing I ever did. So when I sweat my hair doesnt get tangled. plus with human hair, if taken care of, can last for months.

Thanks for the Black Hair Media newbie section suggestion! Went there, and they have some good tips. MsLayne, i'm afraid a sew-in might rip out my real hair? I dunno how those things work... Going to see how the human hair wigs and lace front works out for me...then if not will look at other options. But yes, definitely human hair. They won't tangle as much as synthetics, i've heard.
    Thanks again ladies!

I get my real hair braided but braided with kanekelon(sp?) hair. As long as you go to a licensed beautician that does good weaves you should be good. My hair actually grows a lot faster when I have sew ins because I'm not messing with it. I was my hair every week just like my real hair.

I love my lace fronts & full face wigs but you would never catch me with my ish busted

My only problem is when chicks wear lace fonts & full lace wigs the WRONG way
Example: the wig is pulled down next to their eye brows, they put too much glue & the glue is showing the list goes on. They look a mess it gives lf &fl a bad name

You have to take time to work with your wigs human hair or synthetic you can’t just pull the wig out the package, plop it on your head and go about your business finger comb, comb brush the hair

If you have a synthetic wig and it’s too shinny put some baby powder or cornstarch on it work with your hair

Also you don’t have to use glue or tape you can sew in your wigs

I’ve seen plenty of girls with sewin’s and look a hot ass mess too weave wigs, ponytails, falls; half wigs etc HAIR IS HAIR it’s all about the way it’s applied

It depends on the type of synthetic hair & how you take care of it
I used to do sew ins before getting into quick weave’s , wig , lace fronts just wig period and I still do sew ins from time to time but I like to change up my look
Sew in’s won’t break your or take your hair out when you get your hair braided it you want it tight but not too tight because that can cause damage to your hair & scalp
Other than that as long as you don’t keep in for too long and you take care of it you should be fine
