    Default Weight Fluctuations

Sorry if this is a random/dumb question but this really pisses me off and you all are way more knowledgeable than me about weight loss and being healthy. Every time I workout I weigh generally a few lbs more the next day and when its my day off or esp when I have 2 days off my weight goes back down. Fluctuate sometimes 5lbs day to day. I know a lot has to do with water weight but I find it hard to believe I have 5lbs of water in me. I can never tell if I'm really losing weight till several weeks go by and it stays down. ugh so frustrating!

Well your body is around 70% water and I'm pretty sure from memory your water can fluctuate in the 5% of your weight range... Once you've lost more than 12% of your weight in water you are at risk of dying from dehydration. So 5lb fluctuations are completely possible. Avoiding sodium will help stop water retention. I'm sure sometimes I weight less due to dehydration so I'd prob rather retain a little water than be dehydrated.

hormones are a major problem with people who fluctuate so much. I have the same problem. the stress hormone cortisol is a big problem, estrogen, progesterone needs to be balanced and dont let your insulin levels spike. make sure to drink enough water.

It's best just to keep up the good habits and see where you are in a month. Sometimes it's frustratingly slow to lose weight even when you're doing it right. Then there are times when your body turns on you for no reason. A few weeks ago I was in such a rush I forgot to eat one day, went to work & danced all night, no cushy sitting in private rooms that night, and when I tried to put my pants on at the end of the night they were SO tight I could barely pull them up even though I ate nothing and got a lot of exercise. How did I instantly get fatter in one day? I'll never know, but it went away.

^^Emanuelle - you didn't get instantly fatter in a day It really IS water fluctuations.

The key is to keep a clean diet, exercise, drink plenty of water, and don't obsess over the number on the scale. Seriously. I will weigh myself occasionally, but I always know what I weigh without using a scale because of how my clothes are fitting. If my jeans are starting to get a little snug, I know I've put on a couple of pounds. BUT, at times when I am weight training and eating super clean, I will usually weigh more, but actually be a lot smaller.

So try not to obsess over the scale. It doesn't account for water fluctuations and muscle gains/losses.

Water fluctuations can change a LOT - keep an eye on your sodium and fluid.

Also - (yes, this is kinda gross) - when are you pooping? You can carry 5-20lbs of matter in your bowel. Seriously. If you eat horribly and don't work out, but then take a giant poop, it will read like you weigh less than when you eat well, work out, and haven't excreted it yet. Gross but logical.

Do you have any food intolerances? If I eat wheat, suddenly I gain inches around the waist, don't poop, and weigh more. Within hours.

And finally - don't weigh yourself every day - that tends to foster obsession and bad body image. Once a week is fine. (and yes, i wish I could follow this advice...I'm down to about once every three days...)
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.
