    Sad Bloating and Becoming Discouraged

I feel like it is next to impossible for me to lose weight, and it doesn't help that even if I do lose a little bit, I bloat like fucking crazy! I started a 4 week workout plan and it's a tough workout - involves cardio and weight training. I can feel my arms, legs, butt, everything else toning up... but my belly still has a bunch of fat on it. I'm 3 weeks into this 4 week program, and I am no slimmer in my tummy and haven't lost any weight. I've been trying to eat well along with it, but when I'm seeing absolutely no results, it really discourages me and makes me not want to care anymore.

And if I eat anything besides a measly salad that still leaves my stomach growling, I bloat like a MF. It's ridiculous! The only time I don't look bloated is first thing in the morning when I'm starving. The second I eat anything even remotely filling, I walk around looking like a fucking balloon for the rest of the day. I don't know what to do... I try to eat healthy - I drink a ton of water every day, try to eat cereal, oatmeal for breakfast - salad and soup for lunch... but they don't fill me up. And the second I eat something that isn't rabbit food, I blow up, even if I don't "stuff" myself.

It really puts me in a bad mindset for trying to lose weight and look better when nothing seems to be helping my belly fat, and even if it did, it wouldn't matter the second I put anything in my mouth... I know my stubborn belly fat is genetic - the only time I was able to be super slim was in high school. I was in 4 dances classes and 2 martial arts classes a week - even then, I was never below 108 pounds... so I can't say I'm shocked that I put on 10 pounds once that much physical activity stopped. I just don't know what to do to see results, stop this shitty bloating, and especially to stay motivated to keep trying when nothing seems to work...

Just a couple of thoughts ...

You could have food allergies? Might pay to check and see if you are intolerant of gluten or dairy (or both) ...
I'm gluten intolerant and before I found out I used to bloat like CRAZY - despite working out like a madwoman!

Other 'filling' food options if you are gluten intolerant is something like quinoa - like cous cous ... rice ... sometimes I make a protein shake with banana, dates, flaxseed, ground almonds, carob and protein powder with 2 cups of water and blend.... that's pretty filling rabbit food!

Other thing is that the 'day after' a big workout you almost always retain a shitload of water ...

    Hope this helps

Can you post an example of your diet and workout plan? Might help us help you better.

If I read correctly, you're a teeny 118lbs, so it's going to take a long time for you to lose 10 lbs off an already small body.

Another apparently common but little known intolerance which I have is nightshades. I can't eat tomato, potato, egg plant, or peppers/capsicum and chillis. If I eat any of those I get really bloated and lots of indigestion and pain! At the end of the day if you wanna lose weight it is healthy food you need to eat and you probably will be hungry sometimes. It takes at least 6 weeks to see a significant difference unless your eating a drastically clean diet so try and hang in there.

It may be some kind of allergy (also that area is stubborn). You could always try cool sculpting or something like that if you want to see results sooner (the laser fat removal).

Please post something to make me think you aren't 118 and bitching about feeling fat.

Haha! Ok, for context, I am only 5 feet tall. Should've thought to post that... So 108 looked good on me - 10 extra pounds is very noticeable cuz it basically has nowhere to go... not much of me and I have a short torso to begin with.

I guess it's true that it will take awhile to lose pounds off an already pretty small body. I don't consider myself "fat" - just, when I look in the mirror and my belly is sticking out and I know it didn't used to look like that 4 years ago, I get upset, especially when it's even twice the size of its new size due to bloating. I'll give it some more time. I also didn't realize that working out meant a lot of water retention... do I drink more water to lessen that affect? Or will it not matter?

I never thought about allergies or intolerances. That might be worth looking into... especially since my digestive system always seems up in arms about something... putting 2 and 2 together, that may be a very real possibility.

If I remember to write it all down, I'll try to post an outline of what I did/ate today to give a better idea. Thank you, everyone!

To stop post workout retention make sure you cool down after workouts with lots of breathing and stretching. Apply heat, and take an anti inflamatory(ibuprofin or midol) either right before workout or within two hours of working out.
Drink more water because the protean muscles release while being pumped can cause bloat too.

Also what kind of soup are you having? Canned or boxed soup has tons of sodium which is not going to be good for water retention. They probably have something similar there but here you can buy homemade soup (no preservatives, no sodium) if you read the labels it's all just fresh ingredients and hence the best before date is usually only a week or two away. It's much healthier than campbells or something like that.

I would probably suggest doing a fast--
there's plenty out there: master cleanse, mini-beet protocol, juicing, etc.

See how you do on that for three days and how your body is responding. Go for longer on the fast if you think you feel good so long as you're taking in at least 1000 calories if not more.

Then slowly start introducing foods into your diet. Gluten is a popular one because our breads now have like 100 times more gluten in it than naturally was in bread a hundred years ago. Not long enough for our bodies to evolve unfortunately.

You can also look into the blood type diet. You don't need to buy the book-- there's plenty of guides online to look at, but I do think it's interesting that some people do really well doing vegan, other have to have meat, and others have different needs altogether. Typically though, no matter what your blood type, it's recommended to go gluten free (or gluten light if you like to cheat occasionally and can without your body yelling at you) and avoid pork. I personally say avoid all basically farmed animals (yeah, I'm still a work in progress-- I'm still buying badly) and try to push for farm raised animals which is, admittedly, easier when you're somewhere close to farms. Checking craigslist for meat, cheese, and eggs can actually garner really good places to go.

For example-- if you like pork, try Boar. Because of it's very varied diet, it's actually one of the healthiest meats. It's rather lean, and still has a piggy taste. Very good! Once again though, unless you know hunters, or have the $$$ to order this stuff, or live close to farms-- not the easiest thing to do. But good to look into what's possible for your situation.

Try Dandellion Root. Its an all natural pills that are great for water retention.. Body builders use it before shows. It helps me alot when Im bloating easily. Calcium and potassium also help with bloating if your body is lacking it...

Women tend to lose weight in a stairstep fashion.. I know I do. No loss for a week then bam 3lbs down. I always weight more when I start a workout routine or up the one I'm on. Very annoying. I try to weight myself the day after my off day. Also you naturally drink more water when you start working out and that adds extra weight at first then it balances out. Just keep at it girl!

I have the same damn problem stubborn belly fat and i bloat up after eating more than five bites of something. All of the earlier suggestions here sound great. I wonder if that dandelion root really helps.

What helped me by far the most with bloating/water retention was cutting all dairy out of my diet.
