Over the years I've become a wanna-dance hustler and it's been working out well in my club (there are no VIPs, just couch dances). On a typical night I'll chat with a customer for around half a song, do 1-3 dances with him, move on to the next one and repeat. I almost never sit and chat because I hate the idea of missing out on a quick sale somewhere else, and even when it's dead I get pissed off if they don't ask for a dance or offer me money within the first song. I'm sure I visibly seize up whenever a customer offers me a drink because there's no way to know for sure whether it'll pay off, and to be honest I'm a diva -- I know it's not necessarily rational but sometimes I'll even be offended by a customer who offers me a drink because I feel like he's unsure about whether to spend and needs me to jump through conversational hoops. I also worry that even if he does want to spend, he'll underestimate how much it would take to make it worth it because the dances are cheap or he doesn't know that I sell as many as I actually do in an hour. I've been wondering how often I miss out on whales just because I'm completely risk averse, though.
If you work in a club like mine that doesn't have a VIP to upsell, what's your strategy? Have you found that sitting and chatting or waiting for the customer to ask you for a dance makes you more money?
