    Default Adderall, the miracle drug

My work life has completely changed on account of this drug. I've struggled with the emotional and mental aspects of the job for years. The worst was the panic attacks I'd have regularly. I'd have to work short shifts, taking periodic breaks because I'd get so overwhelmed I'd have a complete meltdown. When I confided in my doctor about this he prescribed me a benzo to calm my nerves. This turned me into a zombie. Next, he prescribed me Adderall and wow...what a tremendous difference it made!

It gives me focus, brightens my mood, and energizes me. Best of all, it makes me, a complete introvert, talkative. I'm not exactly the life of the party, but I now have the confidence to walk up to a group of guys and strike up a conversation whereas before I just hovered nervously around the DJ booth.

Does anyone else have experiences with Adderall?

I took it for a spell and had no bad experience...I would take half a 15 mg XR and it helped me stay up and be energized for work. I was crazy focused and could work longer.....I never felt overly high strung or anything like a meth head...just alert and able to work until 5 am or longer. I stopped taking it about 7 months ago because I realize that it is an amphetamine and could potentially be addictive, so I wanted to go a spell working without just to clean my system and prove to myself that I could work those hours without even if it meant being tired and more easily distracted. Ive never done coke so I cant compare it, but I would just need to drink a lot more water and when I used to smoke ciggarettes I would usually smoke more when taking adderall

The worst part is that I can't stop taking it or else I lose all willingness to live.

Adderall is amphetamine, which is almost exactly the same substance as street meth. If you're okay will being a meth head, then this is a good drug for you. If not, please ask your doctor to take you off amphetamine.
WOW! Thank you so much for sharing that. I had never heard any down side to taking it. I just heard it was a miracle drug. I certainly didn't know it was an amphetamine. It's good to get the word out to students and moms looking for energy and focus.

You really want to avoid taking drugs without the say so of your doctor. There's no telling how you may be affected by it. Amphetamine abuse is pretty brutal!!

It is for some, but not everyone. It actually made me agitated & high strung. weird. I also couldn't sleep for 2 days, the one & only time I took it. No Bueno.

I've been prescribed adderall for almost two years now. I'm supposed to take one a day everyday. in the past two years I've only gone thru about 3 bottles (30 count) I just cannot take this pill daily! It does help dramatically when I take it but I just hate the side effects! I get really dehydrated, headaches, body aches, & I find it hard to maintain a balanced diet because it really supresses my appetite sometimes. It does help but I just can't make myself take it. luckily it has no addictive effect on me.

It really does sound almost as if the cons outweigh the pros w/ this drug. I hated the way it made me feel -def will not be trying the stuff again. Plus, the teeth rotting thing kinda freaks me out bit. Yikes.

Oh yeah, done getting in trouble for illegal shit.
(had my years of ampetamine abuse)

but if my DR ever wanted me to try it, I'd be more than happy to.
(although, doubt that will ever happen because of my history with drug abuse)
On Wellbutrin now which is amphetamine based as well, but think I'm immuned to it.

Like being energized and not hungry.

I guess they prescribe it to those with cocaine/meth addictions as well as ADD.

This shit almost killed me -very allergic to it. Wound up in the ER hooked up to an IV all night. Ouch! Can't take Zyban either cuz of that. They have the same key active ingredient. Ugh.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but this is a little extreme.
Adderall and Methamphetamine are very similiar, but (like you said) they are not the same. And there are significant differences between Adderall and street meth.
I've taken the drug on and off since before I was 15. I've never had the side-effects you've described. I'm not trying to minimize your experience, and anyone considering taking this drug should read it and be aware it does have dangerous side-effects. I'm just saying that for many people, Adderall is a life-saver and taking it doesn't make you a meth head or mean you're okay with being a meth head.

I could be wrong, but I thought that Wellbutrin (Bupropion) was related to or even derived from amphetamine but not actually an amphetamine itself? Or maybe that's what you meant and I'm reading wrong... Anyway, I take it as well and it does seem to have stimulating properties, especially compared to other antidepressants... plus it doesn't have those negative sexual side-effects many antidepressants do.
I really like Wellbutrin. The first time I took it I had hallucinations, but this during a time when I did a lot of drugs. My doctor recommended I try it again, years later, and I'm so glad I did. It helps tremendously with my depression, and with my ADD.

I've never heard it being used for cocaine/meth addictions, but I can see how it might help. That's really interesting.

    I don't like adderall.

I've taken my fair share of it. Got up to taking 40 mg a night. I've stayed up for 3 days straight on adderall. You start to have days blend together, you bite yourself on accident...get horrible sores in your mouth, you don't eat, you lose weight, you feel like a shell of yourself.

Adderall is great until you start to really want it, which doesn't take a long time.

I do not recommend adderall. In a low dose for someone who really needs it then it is ok, using it as a performance enhancer almost always ends badly.

You'll stay up for 2-3 days straight if you take enough, no matter how bad you want to sleep. You'll have to take something to come down...opiates, weed, benadryl, drink alcohol. It's just not a good mix.
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.

I don't really want to get into all the details but Adderall completely ruined my life for almost 2 years. I'm trying to put things back together now. I can't say enough bad things about it. If it helps you, great but I think it's the devil.

Adderal is awesome but it does have its effects. I've been on the same dose of 10mg 5 days a week for over 5 years..although some days are more or less. It does have withdrawals though and on your "off days" you will be sleepy, achey, and want to eat everything in sight. It is speed, but it affects everyone differently. If you are prone to addiction you probably don't want to even start.

I was diagnosed with ADD when I was about 13. My mom said I had it because I couldn't concentrate and my room was always a mess. The truth was, I didn't concentrate in math and science class cause I hate math and science and the teacher sucked, and I never cleaned my room because I was lazy. I knew I didn't have ADD, but the doctor didn't listen to a word I had to say and prescribed Adderall. Over the years, I was switched from Adderall to Stratera, and then Concerta. But I was consistently getting FUCKED UP on that shit. Of course, now I know that the fact I was getting seriously high off the meds meant I did not have ADD. But then, Mom just thought I wanted to get off the medicine because I didn't want to do my work anymore. I hated it, it made me feel like there was this giant ball of energy inside me trying to force itself all at once through a hole the size of a pin. God, I hated it. To this day, I won't take any of those types of drugs, correctly or recreationally, because I remember how much I hated it when I was a kid. And I have taken some serious recreational drugs. I just can't bring myself to bring that feeling back.

Like mentioned upthread - and I dont mean to overemphasize this minor point: just, man, whatever you do wear a mouth guard at night. Or most of the time.

Amphetamines are like taking a jack hammer hammer to your back molars. It is like a swan song of tooth grinding and TMJ.

    Trust.

Man I wish I lived in the states. Doctors here won't prescribe you anything good except antibiotics! I would love to try addrall for studying. I don't have ADD but sometimes I think I'm borderline narcoleptic. I've literally fallen asleep standing up. If I'm not interested in something, I'll fall asleep almost immediately. Which makes university and studying ... Interesting. I handle illegal stimulants very well. Sometimes I'm actually more subdued on coke or speed! It's wired whereas give me quarter of a xanax and I'll be asleep for 10 hours! I just question how good my concentration would be. On speed or coke I don't feel like doing anything except sitting on my ass drinking and talking shit... Never understood people who clean and actually do stuff on speed...

That's just like me, everyone I know says I must be narcoleptic because I fall asleep allll the time and anywhere. I've fallen asleep at concerts before & in nightclubs! I was prescribed the adderall for ADD but it is also occasionally used for narcoleptics so it did help with my sleeping but the only problem with that is some days it gave me insomnia. Most of the time I could still go to bed when I wanted but on the days that I couldn't it was hell.

^^None of the ingredients in that product would even come close to an amphetamine.

so i just got diagnosed with add, i really wish i got diagnosed sooner because college would have been a lot less stressful and challenging... i have an appt with my dr tomorrow to discuss possibly putting me on meds. so it seems like adderall is a last resort choice. if she puts me on meds, what are the best add meds to be on with the least bad side effects?

my add is really bad and affects my daily life... even if you don't think meds are the answer, any advice is appreciated...
