Default Help me improve my workout!!

So i go to the gym 3 times a week, occasionally i will go for a swim or take a zumba class as well.
I want to lose about 20 pounds and i have been pretty good with my diet(apart from when i have my period)

    So this is my workout;
    10 min on the bike
30 mins interval training on the cross ramp
30 mins interval training on the cross trainer
I then do several weight training exercises on the machines, i am usually in the gym a good hour and half

I feel really good working out and but one thing im unsure of is my heart rate, i always check it and it says its in the above peak zone, is this good or bad? I try to keep it in the cardio zone but it eventually creeps up. Should i be aiming to stay in the cardio zone or will the aboe peak zone help me lose weight?

I've always found that I lose more fat from slow and steady workouts and ripping my muscles. Walking for extreme distances such as ten to fifteen miles at a time have always played a huge part in my weight loss.
Yes, it's time consuming and a pain but it's always worked for me. If I have a easily squezable excess weight I can lose half a pant size in a week walking 5+ miles per day.
The weight isn't just from my legs either, it majorly tones the lower abbs and makes the sexy V stand out.
So, I see that you have a lot of fast and heavy workouts. My advice to you is to add some slow paced steady movements. Try it for a week and I promise you won't regret it.

Your exercise is fine. You should probably focus on your diet. Every trainer I've ever had has told me exercise is great for shaping your body and staying healthy, but 80% of losing weight is diet. Don't cheat even during your period. Don't eat sweets or bread or pasta until you lose all your extra weight. If you do the mini meals throughout the day thing make sure they are only 100-250 calories each. Eat mostly vegetables, lean proteins second, and occasionally fruit. Remember that a lot of foods that are really healthy for you will still prevent weight loss so just save the beans and grains for when your diet is over.

I would do a short circuit of 12- 15 reps of strength exercises with moderate weight in a circuit 3 times, only resting between each set. This keeps your heart rate up while improving muscle tone, muscle is responsible for changing your metabolism and burning fat. You can do a full body workout or single out different sections of your body each time as you progress. Should take about 30 minutes. Then do a brisk walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes gradually building your incline then setting it back down. You should be dripping in sweat by now. You can go on to do lunges on the treadmill or challenge yourself with the stair mill some days. Aim to keep your breathing so that you could carry on a conversation instead of focusing on HR through out your workout. This keeps your body using fat instead of glucose reserves (carbs you ate).

Thanks so much for the advice!!
Its funny because whenever i go on holiday i walk miles up hill and i always come back 4 or 5 pounds lighter.
I always knew walking was good for my body but didnt think about doing it at the gym doh!!
I will incorporate it into my gym workout and get back to you

Also a great way to stay on top of your weight control is is FIBER. Seriously have grapes with every meal. Increase you water intake. Meaning drink 5 water bottles of water a day. This regimen sheds belly fat. I shared this with my friend and she lost 6 pounds in a month. You'd be surprised with how well your body will listen to you once your colon is in sync with your excercise.

I say fuck the cross trainer. I don't know about you but I used to spoil myself on the elliptical thinking that I was working out. Put a playlist together and get on the treadmill. If you're bored, you're not working hard enough. I could spend 10 minutes on the treadmill and be sweating tenfold more than I would when I'd do an hour on the cross trainer.

Running as much as I can during the day, a little yoga here and there, and calorie restriction has never failed. Don't over think weight loss. Simplify!
Nobody really agrees with me on that point, but you know what works for your body! Keep us updated, best of luck!
