    Default highlighting question for stylists

When you are touching up highlight and lowlights is it possible to just color the regrowth?
Here's the background info. My natural hair color is dark blonde/light brown and I get highlights and lowlights put in professionally. The highlights are lightish medium blonde and the lowlights are dark blonde. Anyways, my stylist applies the the highlight and lowlight colors about 6 inches down the length of the hair. In other words, she applies it mostly to hair that has been previously lightened. I asked her to apply the color to only new regrowth and she said that she has to apply it down way down the length of the hair. Is is possible to just do the re-growth and get good results? I am asking because I am getting breakage near the scalp. I really like the highlight/ lowlight look but I'd also like to keep my hair in decent shape and prevent future breakage. I'd also be interested in any product reccomendations to prevent breakage. I have the Aphogee Reconstructor and use it a bit.
    Thanks alot!

    It's... possible-ish.
It wouldn't look as good as what you're getting now... but it could look passable if you found someone really good willing to do it. But you aren't likely to find someone who wants to do it BECAUSE it's not likely to look as good.

If you want to keep getting highlights and lowlights, I'd advise you to pick through the rest of your hair-care routine to eliminate as much damage as possible. For example, eliminate blowdrying, cut back on heat-styling with high temperatures. That sort of basic nonsense can eliminate a lot of breakage.

DesuvsDeath, thanks so much for the reply! That's good to know that it probably won't look as good only doing the regrowth. (I was wondering why the stylist did it.) I went to a new stylist who also highlighted several inches of hair but I was happy she washed out the foils in three different batches so they didn't sit in too long.
Unfortunately, I do very little heat styling now. I only blowdry every couple of months. My hair is quite fine so it breaks more easily.

Yeah, it sucks but hair color isn't really an exact science... everyone's hair holds color/responds to lightening differently, so it's just really tricky to match up regrowth without blending into the already colored length a bit.

Glad you were able to find a new stylist you're happier with at least. Hopefully this is a littler easier on your hair. :\
