Dizzy thoughts on the laptop i'm considering

so my laptop (a crappy dell) is close to shot & i think it's time to upgrade. been having way too many problems lately & that's fucking with my money

so i did some research & it seems asus laptops generally have the best specs for camming. i'm no computer expert but i have some basic knowledge. these are the couple i'm leaning towards: http://www.amazon.com/N53SV-XE1-15-6...765444&sr=1-20

    http://www.amazon.com/A53SV-XE1-15-6...dp_ob_title_ce

what i like about these two (ESPECIALLY the first one) is that it's made especially for "entertainment." hd video & pics, lots of RAM for it too.
i make a lot of content & cam in HD. or would like to, my little dell is so not cutting it & i'm sick of messing with it. so what do you girls think? is this basically the best i could get? the first one might seem like a bit much but i basically wanna go big or go home. i'm sick of replacing low end laptops every 6-8 months cause they just don't have the power i need & i need a lot of capability. i'd rather get the best i could, pay through the nose & see my income improve for a while to come.

thanks for your help, ladies! <3 x

Just upgraded to a Macbook Pro today, i'll let you know how it is compared to a HP Pavilion laptop once I get it all set up and going

My laptop, I love it! It's an amazing deal if you can find it in stock.

I love it, adore it...I do my vanilla work between shows, and the comp never slows down, even when I have 5 or 6 different open programs (though I don't use it on any network sites such as mfc or sm, so I can't speak to that)
I got mine for about $500 about a month ago...I'm frugal to a fault, but $700-$950 seems like ALOT of cash to spend
maybe look around at a few different stores, online and off...prices can differ wildly for the same product, depending upon where you look
but yeah, asus rocks, merci BadNews
This laptop looks really good! But looking at specs I noticed it only has a 2.1 GHz, do you guys think it would be better to pay an extra $100 or so to get one with around 2.5 GHz? My current computer is 2.0 GHz and it's not the greatest.

I'm about to buy a laptop too obviously.

I have the first Asus linked. It's a beast i'm not gonna lie. It's big as shit, bulky, heavy.... but really is powerful. I had Dells, Toshibas, Macs, HP..etc I'm really satisfied with the Asus. I do cam, take pix, make videos, watch movies, school stuff and it never really lags.
I've had one problem where the prong in the charger broke off because some dumb bitch tripped over my charger cord at a convention and i sent it back to Asus and they sent me a replaced motherboard for free in less than a week. Good customer service.

thanks! i'm probably going to get it then. a real beast is just what i need. i don't mind the size of it at all as long as i can make shit tons of hd content & cam without it freezing every five seconds.

i recently bought a lenovo with similar spects to the asus k53e-b1 (which was discontinued) and i love it 2.3 ghz (with turbo boost up to 2.9), 6 gb ram (i'm planning to max out to 8 eventually), and a core i5 processor. on my old laptop (amd turion x2, 2.0 ghz, 4 gb ram) camming with the encoder on streamate took all of my cpu and caused overheating, even with an external cooling pad. on this one, it takes maybe 15-25%, no overheating.

smurfette - i'd recommend getting something with an i5, anything i5 or i7 should have turbo boost (up to 2.9 or 3.0 ghz) for when you're running programs that take up more processing speed.

if i could afford it, i would definitely have dropped $1000 for one of the i7 laptops, though. if you can afford to pay that much, i'd say go for it! and if the asus comps within my price range hadn't been discontinued, i'd have gone for an asus instead of a lenovo.

I'd get the Asus A53SV-XE1 and save a few bucks, they are really not that much different.

After browsing this thread and the linked one, I gotta say yeah a good computer is must but you really don't need that much high end stuff...bigger does not mean better. Just like using a low equipped computer with camming or gaming will wear it out, the same thing will happen with it all juiced up. It's funny, but a shitty Dell perfectly equipped to your needs will outlast something like an Asus with tons of high specs.

Thanks for the advice tiny! I greatly appreciate it.

Gonna browse some more before I place my final order but I'm pretty confident in what I'm looking for now.

I have a Toshiba I bought a couple months ago for camming. Its was ~$550 including tax (though I think I got it during a sale?) and it works amazingly well. I think any new midrange laptop you choose will work really well for camming. Any brand. Just make sure you don't load tons of programs on it, and make sure you don't let very many programs run when you're camming. I use my "old" laptop now for personal use... pics, music, etc.

Also, if you buy online, google for discount codes before placing your order.

^wanted to add - with my old laptop, while camming, it got up to 90-95 degrees celsius even with an external fan. with the pentium i5 this one stays at around 45-50 degrees celsius while running the encoder on streamate (slightly lower with the external fan, but i don't even need it). just for perspective on overheating.
