"The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works" -GORDON GECCO

I've ate shark before but not the fins, the actual meat and it is really good.
This was the documentary he was filming when he was doused with gasoline and held at gunpoint while people threatened to light him on fire if he kept investigating, right?
I'm not going to lie, I cried when I saw them mutilating the hammerhead alive.
I once accidentally came across a photo of people, um, harvesting the fins and I swear, if the shark had the ability to scream it would be screaming.
That one stayed with me for a while.
I am a meat eater, but I prefer my meat torture-free, thank you.
I remember being in a Chinese restaurant (in Toronto) with my parents, my aunt and uncle and my cousins. I saw that they had shark fin soup on the menu and I respectfully requested that nobody at the table order it.
My cousin asked me why and I told him. He looked so horrified. Then he said, "Is there some sort of petition I can sign?"
There's a measure to ban shark fin soup in Toronto. I hope it passes.
Thankfully, most of the Chinese places I've been to don't have it.
I didn't realize that it was on the menu at that place until we actually sat down and were getting ready to order.

Not watching it.
Really don't feel like crying today or having nightmares tonight. :*(
i can't even click![]()
follow me on twittah<3
I didnt click it, I read all of the replies those. That is so sad.. I hate animal torture... Humans are the ones to blame, I hope it stops.
I found a petition supporting banning shark fin soup in Toronto:
http://www.unitedconservationists.or...131&Itemid=235
If that doesn't work, try this:
http://www.unitedconservationists.or...124&Itemid=236

Thank you, Caitlin, for supplying the petition websites and thank you, Silk, for bringing this issue to everyone's attention.
UPDATE!
Toronto shark fin ban passes first hurdle
Toronto is one step closer to banning the consumption of shark fin products — and backing it up with some hefty fines.
The city's licensing and standards committee voted unanimously on Thursday to approve a new bylaw that will outlaw the sale of shark fin, which is used to make the Chinese delicacy shark fin soup.
The new law would also ban any other use of shark fin and would have fines ranging from $5,000 for a first offence to $100,000 for a third offence.

The only part of the video I saw was Gordon Ramsay tasting the soup. The broth part sounds delicious. I could have sworn the ingredients they used for it were the same ones used in the broth of the won ton soup I like to order sometimes.
I stopped watching when he was attempting (much to the chagrin of the maitre d' to ask the diners in the restaurant why they spend so much on something that essentially tastes like bland noodles.
That got me thinking about a recent Vanity Fair article I read about China's recent high demand for ivory from Kenya:
http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/fe...ephants-201108
Direct quote from the article (page 4 of the above link): “Chinese society today is ruled by one principle only: Make Money for Me. On the way to make riches for oneself, there is no concern for anything, including other people and the environment, let alone animals. Unfortunately, the south-Chinese practice of ‘eating everything in sight’ is adopted by a lot more people now. And the Chinese have the ability to travel all over the world now. Especially in countries where law and order are not well established, these Chinese feel that they can get away with eating anything and everything.”
Yes it was. Absolutely disgusting and crazy! See link below.

This gets my blood boilin. But unfortunately, a few years ago, I worked on a program to end a very cruel trapped pigeon hunt in PA. All the effort and publicity resulted in MORE people going to the hunt every year (2) we fought it. The cruel bastards thought it was a good idea once they saw our PSA against it!

California, where 85% of shark fin soup consumption in the US was taking place, banned shark fin soup.
