    Default Soy Products

I don't know much about them.....

Right now I eat no dairy or gluten, I follow the paleo and primal blueprint diet, so lots of meat and vegetables. I bought some silken sprouted non-GMO organic tofu to scramble instead of eggs, because I'm soooo burnt out on eggs! Even to mix 50/50 with my eggs..... and also to add in other things for extra protein.

I've heard that the isoflavones and the phytoestrogenic activity from them can be bad, but how much would you need to eat? Will soy make me bloat up? I've never really eaten much soy.....

Somebody fill me in on the nutrition in tofu!

My understanding is that two servings a week is playing it safe. Less than 50mg total daily of isoflavones is good for your thyroid. The phytoestrogen dilemma seems to be different for every woman so you just need to feel it out for yourself. Some women get bloated and crampy when they have too much soy, for others it prevents pms symptoms. I'm told it depends on your natural hormone balance and sensitivity to phytoestrogens. Personally, I love tofu. I buy this really high protein brand from whole foods and serve it cold, cut into cubes w/ peanut sauce or chili oil. Sometimes I include those shrirataki noodles that are made from yams or tofu and some lightly steamed vegetables.

I like the soy milk, since I'm lactose- intolerant. I have never felt bloated with the soy.

Jeez, I eat a fair amt. of soy, & never thought/heard about that stuff!^! I like soy nut butter, spread on spelt bread, sometimes shreaded soy cheese on brown rice spagetti w/pesto. Also Trader Joe's has a killer soy creamer, I may use it on cereal (as welll as in coffee) mixed w/a little water. For drinking/cereal I kinda like hemp milk (supposed to have a lot of vitamins) or sometimes rice milk. I also like the tempeh I think it's called, cooked tofu in soy sauce.
I think it does help, I don't know about menstual symptoms, but I've heard it helps w/menopausal symptoms so..

I heard the same thing, that the estrogens in soy can cause issues in some people. But, like Emanuelle said, it depends on the person. I would start out with a small amount, and work your way up to see how it affects you.

I personally have drank soy milk since I was in middle school, and eat tofu about once a week. I also LOVE those shirataki noodles. I haven't had any problems so far from the soy.

yeah, I've had it mess with my period like have it come earlier, make me feel a little icky after consistent soy milk use, and also just bad period stuff.

Depends on your body. Do you have any Paleo Diet books? My boyfriend has one and I'm looking through the breakfast section. They've got some weird pairings-- like nothing says breakfast like Pink Grapefruit, Chilled Steam prawns, and a cup of decaffeinated coffee

Personally, for breakfast (depending on heavy you like to eat during that meal) I'd make a fruit/vegetable juice smoothie with celery, apples, maybe a lemon, and a few other things mixed in there (also good to mix in kale or dykon.) You could mix in your supplements for the first part of the day and a few spices and that sounds better to me, but it's a personal choice.

For protein you could add a spirulina protein powder, and maybe some hemp or nut powders (or, soak some almonds and blend those suckers in

Also, are you making enough the night before that if you want to have leftovers for breakfast (I actually love cold leftovers but some really hate it) you can if you want to? or you can mix that into some eggs for a scramble of some sort?

soy is bad. It will raise your estrogen and make you retain fat like eating birth control pills.

lol not to be harsh i just read somewhere it being expressed this way.

^its true that there are studies saying it's bad, but at the same time there are others which say its good. Like most foods, moderation and how your body handles it is probably key.
