    Default Cam Yes, Phone No!

My friend's "fan" kept insisting she takes a picture from iPhone and sends to him (he said he hated webcam quality).

After sending the picture he sent her a message saying he knows her exact location and threatened to pay her a visit... She's in tears and wants to quit...

DO NOT TAKE PICTURES USING IPHONE

Turns out it has Geolocation tracking turned on by default. Here is ABC special report:

Spread the word and don't fall victim! I think this applies to blackberries too

    Stay safe and much love

P.S: Sorry if in wrong location

Oh my gosh! Why did she do that! I don't give these guys any access to me whatsoever even if it seems innocent. They either talk to my ass on cam using the site that we're on or we don't communicate. I don't give out my personal email address or anything. Guys are always asking me to text them, email them, or something. My response is "talk to me now. I'm sitting right in front of you". And every site i'm on has the ability to send messages so they don't need my email address. I don't care how cool I am with my customers, they are just that-customers. If they start that begging and whining and asking for other stuff. I tell them "Look this is not match.com. If you wanna meet up, hook up, talk on the phone, text, im, etc etc go to a matchmaker site. Pay me or get the fuck out of my room". Seriously I don't have that time for that bs. This is my job.

That being said: she shouldn't quit. Hell the damage is done. Her quitting won't change the fact that he has her location (if he actually has it. He could be bluffing). Now she knows not to do it again. Keep everything business. These guys are not our friends. They are paying customers.

I remember this story about a year ago these guys broke into this man's home and took his stuff including an iPhone and posted a pic on fb. They found their location and arrested them. I thought wow that's great but what if it got in the wrong hands.
Sorry this happened to your friend. It can happen to any of us really. I won't elaborate any more than that just because I'm sure weirdos lurk this board.
Maybe at this point she can just work on being prepared. Maybe he was bluffing but shit maybe he wasn't! Does she own a gun? Have an alarm system?
Bitch? Actually I'm an evil cunt. Slut? Try dirty little whore. Either way, you have to pay for it.

gah this makes me nervous. i second ^^ that. even if the dude never shows up, she should be prepared for the chance that he does. alarm, weapons, maybe staying with a friend for a while or having a friend stay with her?

i wouldn't worry about this case...if he really was going to go there he would of just done it and not threatened it...

You can turn off the geo locations enabler under "settings" on the iphone.

Yeah, you can still take photos with an iPhone, just make sure the geo-tagging is set to 'off' under Photos. I only have it on for Google Maps & my Runkeeper app, everything else (my camera, Facebook, Twitter etc) is turned off and will never share my location.

This is scary stuff. I'm a bit paranoid so I try to keep all geolocation stuff disabled. FYI you can choose to enable it or not on twitter also - keep it disabled!

It's fkn annoying how some guys can't respect our personal privacy and boundaries. Truly, the bullshit men pull makes me want to beat them all over the head with a 2x4 just for existing. Haha

Thanks for the heads up. However, I'd behave the exact opposite of scared if someone threatened to show up on my doorstep. Maybe I'm slow, but are they suddenly supposed to be more of a threat to me than all the other people I interact with in passing in the world just because they've seen me naked? He's feeding off of the "things with penises online are dangerous" stereotype and I'd call his bluff. Real psychos do, they don't talk.

so you know, there are also programs you can use to strip the metadata off of your images. PixelGarde is available for Windows, Android, and iOS

sorry for the late reply and thank you for the advice! she's calmed down since and realized that it's just some sicko who doesn't have the guts to do any harm. I'll keep in mind the services mentioned by housewench
