Exclamation Help Stop Videotaping in the Club

I am so sick and tired of being videotaped and hearing about other girls being videotaped. Yes we signed up to be naked but not to be videotaped!! There should be a law that protects our rights. I have looked into different laws and they are pretty vague when it comes to if a club is considered a private place and whether or not we have an expectation of privacy. When it comes to photography of any kind, I say hell yeah we do!! We need to band together to propose some sort of new law or make the existing ones more clear in terms of our video privacy. It will be hard but if we get enough of us wanting a change it may make a difference! WHOSE WITH ME!!!

I know they're not allowed. they're not allowed in my club either but that doesn't always stop them from doing so. I think if they were punished for doing so the would be less likely to.

i wish my club would be more strict about cell phones like yours but that still doesn't stop hidden cameras.

I mean legally!! if they have your picture or you on a video, them getting kicked is like a slap on the wrist. This is a major violation of body and or rights!

If they are not permitted to do this (like in most clubs) alert security asap & either get them kicked out or their mobile confiscated (in which time security can delete the images & return the phone-if they decide to lol).

How is he going to delete it if he doesn't know he has it on his phone and you seem to forget that there are such things as hidden cameras they could use. And why are you so against them being punished legally for having your body on a image that you did not authorize. Some of us don't want our image out there for the world to see.

Ok Let me be more specific. I didn't know that they took the video at the time or of course i would have said something. i found out after they had already taken it and then told someone they had it. Then that person told me. How am I supposed to get the bouncer to erase it now?? Stuff like this happens more often than it should.

I don't get it, I've heard at one club they will take the phones/cameras and delete the photos, but in mine they say they can't actually make the customers hand it over.

Okay, if a multi-million (or likely billion) dollar industry like the movie and entertainment biz does not have the muscle to stop thieves who sit in their theater and illegally film movies to bootleg, and intimidation doesn't work when they DO catch one and prosecute him to the full extent of the law, then it sounds like you, sex worker and lowly to most all politicians (publicly at least) are going to be shit out of luck.

Learn to keep a better eye on your surroundings and be quick about snatching phones so you can delete the pictures or hand them over to the bouncer (though I would tell a bouncer to keep an eye in your direction if you're going to go on a phone rampage.)

I've very rarely had this issue. The lighting isn't very good in most clubs, people are drinking and fairly obvious about holding up a phone when they do want to take a picture so I can snatch it or block them and signal to a bouncer, and as far as hidden cameras.... I guess that could work if they sat RIGHT at the stage of a really well lit club, but you'd likely get his feathers ruffled if you started running your hands over his clothing and putting them in disarray while kissing his ear and collecting your dollar at the side of the stage.

I'm pretty sure it is illegal to film without the person's consent (especially if they're trying to make money off of it somehow)-- but good luck depending on that legal aspect to help you.

Strip clubs have become a lot more hands off after a few lawsuits and even a couple of deaths from bouncers going overboard on the manhandling. *sigh* Couple that with wanting to placate the customer as much as possible so he keeps spending money on alcohol and so many clubs are stupidly permissive.

If your club doesn't insist on the guy handing it over via intimidation, then they need to kick him out.
And if they DON'T kick him out and let him go right back to what he's doing, you need to determine if you want to work at such a place that does NOT have your back in the slightest.

i recall simply taking the phone out of a customers hands and deleting the photos. bouncers aren't much help anymore, and though i understand the liability issues and blah blah blah, i have seen bouncers throw people out for breaking furniture but not for sexually assaulting dancers. so bouncers have really low standing in my head and i assume they're all chronic underachievers who...let me stop.

The bouncer take the guys phone if he's caught. They go through it & delete the pics or videos, then hold on to it for the rest of the night until the dude leaves.

This thread really makes me lol.
BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE HIDDEN CAMERAS!?!??!?!

Proper cameras with good quality video filming out in the open still look and sound like shit under ideal conditions unless the club is CRAZY well lit. Is there really such an outbreak of customers spending hundreds of dollars on a hidden camera capable of taking excellent quality video just to film too-dark, bad-angled clips of strippers?

I think this is a bigger issue for camgirls. I agree that most customers are usually too stupid/drunk to be able to take photos without getting caught. I think the best thing we can do as dancers is take the phone from the custie yourself. They're usually too stupid/drunk and shocked to say no. You take it away if its locked delete ALL of his pictures (just for kicks) if its not unlocked call the bouncer over before you give it back to him to unlock it.

I haven't caught someone taking photos of me but I saw a guy pull out his phone and aim it towards the stage so I told the bouncers. He was shazaming the song that was on lol. But another girl on stage caught a dude taking pics, she jumped off the stage, took his phone, and stuck it in her thong until a bouncer came to clear it out.

yep they would also be less likely to visit the club, even good customers would be put off if law after law is made to control their behaviour inside the club(a very heavy handed approach) the thought of a criminal record/fines/prison sentances for doing something silly when they've perhaps had too much to drink could really knock our wages when customers dwindle, i'm quite happy with the arangement of doormen telling customers to put their phone away/confiscating and deleting the images.

i used to do private parties, and one time during the g on g show the guy whipped out his camera and literally took a picture with FLASH and claimed he didn't. we ripped the phone out of his hands and were trying to delete the picture, and the whole time he was like "give me my fucking phone, i'm calling the cops and telling them you stole my fucking phone, you fuckin bitchess" and i was like "ok dude, call the cops and say we took your phone, and when they ask why you tell them you took naked pictures without our permission and see what they say." he shut up after that.

people taking naked pictures of you without your permission IS a crime punishable under law... but it's likely it will be much more time and effort to punish them than you will actually get out of it. especialy since the "proof" is on their phone, they could send it to their frineds or their email and then you take them to court and their "proof" is off their phone, but the rest of the world has it.

it's better to threaten them and make it sound like they can go to jail and be seen as a sexual predator and delete the pix urself, then to try to take them to court. it's like the bully on the school ground steals ur ice cream, by the time you find a teacher on that busy playground, that icecream is already long gone. might as well kick the bully in the nuts and run.

at the club i saw this whole bachelor party trying to take pics while we showed off the bachelor on stage (4 girls dancing on him) and i immediately stopped the show and went up to them and i said "don't take pictures! i know this is ur buddy's bachelor party but we have lives outside of here!" for some people that is enough to make them feel like an asshole and stop. it was for these guys.

Camille, that was too funny and soo true.

Anywho, I don't think the OP is a troll. At my club which is ri-fuckin-diculously bright, I'm always spotting some asshole either obviously taking a picture (why would anybody just take a picture with the flash on??) or I see their phone following me wherever I go and if I'm in a bad mood then I'll go up to the idiot and make him delete the pic/video or if I'm not in a bitchy mood then I'll just tell a bouncer and point at whoever did it and make a big scene so that everybody knows what a pathetic piece of shit he is. There's not much we can do to stop them. The possibility of ending up on some guys phone as free jerk off material is just another part of the job.

And it seems like the only guys that do this are the ones that don't tip. That's probably what annoys me most. At least give me money. Shit, if you give me enough money I'll be like "let me see that.. oh that's a bad picture.. take it again, get my good side".

missdancypants is correct. it is a crime, but it isn't a sex crime. so if you do decide to call the police and file a report to start an investigation, any future employer or anyone looking at public record is going to see YOUR NAME next to SEXUAL DOCUMENTATION NONCONSENSUAL or whatever the name for the charge is.
a civil suit would be another option but those take time and i am guessing that someone sneaking pictures in a strip club is not worth suing, though if he is, then absolutely go for it.

the police are usually happy to make everyone involved feel really uncomfortable. cuts down on their paperwork load and also gives them one satisfied lady citizen for the day.
