    Default traveling dancer

Does anyone consistently travel and dance? Right now is the start up of our peak season, but I'm seriously considering traveling and dancing when the season is over (specifically in the late spring and all summer; either in *NY, MD, PA, IL, CA or NV*)....but I know nothing about traveling as a dancer.

What should I look for? Expect? Possible discounts on hotels? Do I need a separate permit for every state? Any states besides those listed above you ladies would recommend? My main problem is I can only travel 3-4 (maybe 5 at max) days at a time (wk) due to classes..so I can't do long contracts.

I'm clueless about this, so anyone that can tell me something that would help me would be greatly appreciated!!

BTW - please excuse if I put this in the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to put it.

I spent a year on the road. First, I will tell you it is emotionally taxing to bounce from city to city every week/month or so.
Second, it can be expensive (Gas,insurance, hotels rack up) and there is no guarantee about the money you can make in any club or city to happen to be in. (You are taking a chance whether you work at a hole in the wall in Arkansas or Scores in New York)
Third, the best strategy is to use a website, such as stripperweb or naughty nightlife and actually CALL the club and ask about these important things before you just show up( I always did it before I even hopped in my car headed for that city). Although the reviews on stripperweb are entertaining and helpful, don't take them as the bible. There is a club in every city you will like, I promise. That is why you are travelling, right? To try new things!
Ask:Is there a license required to work in a stip club in this county/city/state? What day may I come in for an audition? (Some clubs only hire on specific days, and you could try to plan your travel schedule accordingly.)
Less important questions, but could be really useful: What type of things should I wear? (There may be laws or the club has a dress code) Are there limitations on tattooed girls? Generally, clubs are very helpful to inquiring dancers, cause they're always looking for a fresh face.
Living accomadations: I always stayed in suites, because I wanted privacy and my own kitchen to cook in. You can find there for as low as 200 a week. You could look on craigslist for short term lease deals, or there is also couchsurfing.com, which is free!
How to keep from not going crazy: Update facebook and keep in touch back home frequently. People will be curious as to what you're up too, they'll listen, and you'll feel less isolated when you chat with your friends and family. Most importantly, go out on the town and socialize and visit all the geeky tourist attractions. Remember that you are on a vacation at all times! )

I travel as a dancer sometimes and have been to a decent number of clubs, but I only go for 3 days to 2 weeks at a time. I am also a student and working thurs, fri, sat only has never been a problem for me on the road. Call the club you want to work at and ask if they are hiring out of town dancers, they will probably tell you to email something or call the booking agent/house mom. The person answering the club phone might not know about scheduling. I always call the clubs in advance for a booking and information about their specific club rules and licensing regulations before I purchase travel arrangements (hotel, flight/amtrak, car rental, etc.). Some clubs might want you to email them a picture or audition. Some clubs provide a dorm room or have a discount at a hotel for the girls. Always ask about the dress code and how music is played! Not all clubs have a dj and you may have to provide your own music or money for a jukebox! Also, ask about the prices for dances/vips and house fees before you arrive, clubs are often different and the fees can be shocking.

The most important thing is to remember to be nice to the other girls (it's their club) and the staff. Just call some clubs and get out there, don't worry you will have fun
