    Question SheaMoisture/Ethnic Hair products..

I was in Walgreens today, in the ethnic hair section, & saw these..on their site they said they also make body, shaving & baby care products..& have been around since 1912, orginally made by a widow w/4 kids
Anyway, my hair's bad so I need something intensive..
All of them contain shea butter, which I love, they aren't too high priced. (around 10.00 for a good-size bottle) seem to have mainly natural ingredients..has anyone tried this line? According to their site, they are also at Wal-mart (not the one by me tho) Target, & some other drugstores; however products are not sold on their site
    Thanks!

I JUST saw these products today and am curious as well. I might check them out because I like the natural stuff, but ended up picking up Renpure reconstructive stuff since there was a mail in rebate.

If your hair like shea butter, have you gotten into oils? There's a lot of coconut oil in that product (which ends up making my hair feel a little dry, I don't know why, but if there's shea butter it probably balances out.) I got this product from an Indian Grocery and my boyfriend, who has curly hair, loves it. I like it but I need to work out the amount before I use it more often:

OMG, I just bought Renpure reconstructive conditioner, the other day, & have been on their site as well! I didn't see anything about a rebate! I got it @ Ulta. Did you know they also have a newer (I believe newer) deep conditioner? I haven't seen it in stores though. I like that you can order off their site, in case you can't find in stores. I kinda not sure if Renpure worked for me, my hair is super dry/damaged.
I am trying not to buy the expensive stuff. Thank you for the links & response!! That Dabur coconut oil looks interesting! I have been using regular olive oil on my ends, but doesn't seem to help.

Hmmmm. I think the rebate is a walgreen thing so you could always buy one at walgreen with the rebate sticker on it and return the new bottle to ulta and send in the rebate thing. it was buy one get one free so I'm not sure how renpure's going to feel about that, and if I'll essentiallyget two bottles for free after rebate or not.

I really like Redken's conditioner. there's a deep conditioner that works really well that has "butter" in the name I think. It's in the goldish tube. If your hair is that dried have you done any protein treatments?

one of my favorites, also in the ethnic hair section though typically I buy it at sally's when I do is Organic Olive Oil treatment, sold in individual packets or in a bottle. That's good right when you've bleached or colored your hair, though it is NOT actually made with organic products, the shady mofos.

My boyfriend used the renpure reconstructive stuff after I put the amla oil in his hair (vitaka)
And his curls sure look purty but we'll see how they look when he's slept on them. There was kind of a funny
smell and I don't know if it's the renpure or some weird combo effect of the vitaka and renpure.

Depending on what you're trying to do with your hair, it sounds like you'd benefit from one of the long hair forums online. there's two but one's much bigger than the other.

a girlfriend of mine told me that she only washes and rinses with distilled water and it's made a major difference in her hair. I might start doing that because I've noticed a distinct downward spiral in the quality of my hair having moved into a place with shitty pipes and water quality.

    Mind Blowing Re: SheaMoisture.com products..

Ah, thank you for the rebate info! As I remember now, I did have a coupon, (for Ulta) w/the Renpure so no biggie.
I've seen that Olive Oil thing you're talking about @ Sally's in the ethnic & other stores too, I'm gonna try it, thank you!
Do you, by chance, have those links for the long hair forums? I think I previously belonged to one, but then they closed/made it private (after I joined?
I don't know about Redken, used their products before, w/much disappointment, they seem all chemical-y. Things don HAVE to be all pure either, but when you say it contains shea, & its @ bottom of ingredients list, come on!
My area has the hardest water in the country, not good. I have thought about installing a purifyer to wash hair, I already have one for drinking water, attached to kitchen faucet.
LMAO, @ this thread! But, thank you, you're so cute!!!
Anyway, I am going to look around still at the shea moisture products

I have been using their products for years. Now they are getting more mainstream. Beforehand you could only buy the products at small stores that catered to us blacks. They are now at select Walmarts. I get mine from Target now. I didn't know Walgreens had them. I love the shea butter, curl milk & other hair products. Love, love, love it! But I don't use shea butter on my hair just my skin.

Hey, thank you CandyX!!! I was in Wal Mart today, (a different one than I usually go to) that one didn't have any ethnic hair products!
    I'm going to try Targets.

Here's the products I was talking about:
    http://www.amazon.com/Organic-Root-S...uct/B001CXD1AA

    http://www.amazon.com/Redken-All-Sof...8630577&sr=1-9

I'm not a fan of the shampoo. For that I tend towards Burt Bee's. I also really favor this shampoo bar though I haven't gotten it because I never see it when I have money, and when I don't I don't want to spend $6:
    http://www.amazon.com/J-R-Liggetts-O...8630621&sr=1-1

Though if you have hard water it's probably going to be hard to use a bar of soap.

Do you ever use a clarifying shampoo? I saw on one thread, here or elsewhere, that baby shampoo makes a good clarifying shampoo but I haven't followed up on that. I used to love Neutragena's clarifying shampoo, but I think now they've added SLS which was part of the reason why I bought the old formula because it didn't have that.

Also, keep in mind, whenever you're dealing with oils, butters, and waxes, you can look up your own recipes at home fairly easily:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLbqUg9meyU

I'm in the midst of watching this so I can't attest to quality. You can find some really good supplies on amazon.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A216LHO9N19DU1

    Here's the forum:
    http://www.longhaircommunity.com/

What type of hair do you have?

I'm excited to try the renpure reconstructive stuff later, but I'm wondering about just putting it in my hair and washing it out later tonight.

Thanks, I'm gonna look @ all your links a bit later, as I'm cammin' now..
My hair is med. thick, semi-coarse, very wavvy & color treated/damaged, due to a freakin bitch @ Ulta, that messed it up. I'd been going to her for a year's time previously! I do trims every couple of months myself, w/pro scissors, I've cut a fair amt. off in the past 3 yrs the bitch has ruined it on me. I daily use leave in cond. comb gently, etc.
I have a good clarifying shampoo, it has Chinese herbs, is not too drying, & is supposed to help w/growth..I also have a shampoo called 3 more inches, no kidding, I haven't yet tried that. I got it from spacenk.com, they have cool stuff, Oribe products too.
I don't think I really have the patience to make my stuff, when I have it hasn't worked well, plus I'm trying to get ready for a harsh winter.
I have also tried from Sally's: African Pride brand, Olive Miracle leave in (it's a lotion type thing but has lots of oils in it). It's eh, ok nothing great, they also make a deep conditioner in a tub too.
When I was in Walgreens today, there's a co. called Hask, they make Henna/Placenta deep condioner, they had an olive oil + pack that looked interesting, but I didn't have my glasses to read ingredients & was in a hurry.
Anyway, THANKS so much for everything!!

You can look at hair pills for growth-- the walmart hair pills, or GNC has one called Nourishair.

    You can do this:

I use Aphogee Keratin treatment. It repairs the hair by replacing protein and softens it. http://www.aphogee.com/Keratin_Green_Tea%20Res.aspx

Yep, I also like by Nature's Sunshine brand, their herbal based hair growth pills..I'm in WM constantly so I'm gonna check their's out..I shampoo once a week, b/c of the dryness..my hair doesn't get all that dirty really, occasionally I used a dry shampoo to freshen, & I wet my hair from mid-length, then put in a conditioner, rinsing out, not touching the scalp
Btw, the Shea Moisture organic raw shea butter moisture rention shampoo, (yellow color label) is listed in best beauty products, in Allure mag I also saw the Pantene Relaxed & Natural conditoner for wm of color in there..
    Thanks again, Ladies!

I used the renpure and it didn't really have any slip for my hair (fine, bone straight.)

    poo.

I bleached my roots to lighten them up, so I used renpure all over after that, rinsed it out after the fine minutes, and then just finger combed the conditioner that came with the hair dye and left that as a leave in since my hair has been so dry lately.

Why can't they just sell us the conditioner that comes in the hair dye boxes???

Yeah, I wasn't all that impressed, either, w/Renpure!
I bought Carol's Daughter, Margerite's Hair cream, it's heavy, thick, cream (leave-in) w/shea, in the jar. I was actually able to comb thru my hair finally, but, I think it's a bit heavy/thick for my hair, I totally hate the smell, a weird fruity scent, which I usually am ok with, I am returning to Ulta where I got it.
Ok, I just check out Shea Moisture's facebook, haha..you can order the products off walgreens.com, (free ship w/25.00 order). There's a also spray on reconstructive elixor, which I haven't seen in the stores

My luxury hair products are Kerastase and Davines. They are to die for! Expensive...yes but well worth the investment. My hair stylist is Chinese and the salon uses the products. When I die I hope they have them in the next life! They are ultra softening, moisturizing, and makes ur hair looks like a celeb but a good cut is everything too so... I always have them in stock! Always! Wella/System Professional also have some good products too for black hair that I use when I blow dry it straight.

Optimist, I keep Aphogee on stock too. Needless to say that I am a hair prodcut hoarder . My very first hair stylist put me on aphogee many years ago and I always use them when I cant get my Kerastase products aka my hair crack.

    OPTIMIST!!! hot, so hot
Anyway..I wont let this thread die! I am determined to find & share good/afordable hair products!
Anyway, so I go to Whole Foods for a few things, & I just stopped by the hair sec., there's a brand I've seen: http://Kinky-Curly.com http://beautifulcurls.net
KC has a product called 'Knot Now" detangler, an overnight treatment, 'curl custard' styler, etc.
Beautiful curls, I hadn't heard of, but they've some cool sounding stuff..I actually tried one of their tester oils, I must wash my hair to see how it worked. Lots of shea (fair traded) in their products..
Everything was priced around $10.00 USD..I didn't buy cause I have a pile of stuff @ home to try..Organic olive oil replen. pak, Hask Macadamia hot oil treatments (@Wmart) & Palmer coconut oil treatment/leave in!
