    Default One time only "strippers"

I have this friend who stripped exactly one time only in an amateur night. She decided that stripping was not for her (not for everyone)and gave up her dream. Ok, flash forward 10 years later. We were somewhere and the topic of stripping came up. She then blurted up that both of us were strippers. When I corrected her and said I didn't consider her a stripper, just a girl trying it out, she got mad.

I guess it bothered me because she never dealt with things that I have. She never had to go out and buy new outfits because her other ones were getting old or were ruined by things like beer. She has no idea how to hustle and doesn't know what private dances are. She thinks all you need to be a stripper is to get on stage and dance. She doesn't know about the men who become attached and think you like them as boyfriends, or the men who think stripping=whores. Maybe I am overeacting but I have seen this attitude with other would be strippers. I actually once had a contestant in an amateur contest at a club I was dancing at tell ME how she could teach me things. I suspect this is why most new dancers end up leaving the business before 6 months.

Do women like this get you mad like they do me? Btw, I once offered to take her to a party I was doing and have her waitress. She didn't like the idea of being topless.

I firmly believe that doing something one time doesn't mean you are that. Having one girl girl experience to me doesn't equal being lesbian or bi and smoking a joint one time doesn't you are a pothead.

You're singing to the choir so I'm guessing you're venting, or just looking for confirmation that you're right?

Emotionally, you're able to feel whatever you want.
But I think both emotionally and logically you're right. Essentially, she was "posing" trying to get credit for stripping where none was due.

I suppose both. I'm sure others have dealt with this and it bothers them as well. I'm the first to admit that stripping is not for everyone but when someone acts like her it bugs me. She often tries to act like she thinks a stripper should, but I've never acted like that outside the club.

IMO this is a natural response. She basically sounds like she wants the attention that she thinks would come from stripping.

Situations like these bother me so much! Sometimes I take this to an unreasonable level and will find myself being very critical of the girls who are very new to the business who seem to think that they know everything. So I completely understand why you would be upset.

omg that would drive me nuts. I also have a friend who only danced one night in an amateur contest and she tells the story about it, but would never say she was a stripper or try to act like she knows anything about stripping. If she did, I'd probably punch her.

It does bother me she's pretty much taking credit for a career she never was in. I mean she never worked for the club at all, only did the one night. I suppose it wouldn't bother me if she wasn't a show off as well. She'll often dress skanky and say it's because she was a stripper (forgetting the fact I never dress like that)or flirt with men and say it.

I'm actually glad she never became a dancer because she has mental problems already and I think they would have become worse. She's not young either, she's 42.

I used to be a mother type for the new girls until way too many of them were know it alls. I know most won't stay in the business but new dancers who claim to know everything drive me nuts.

Well whatever, I wouldn't be so worked up about it. If she wants to say she was a stripper, then let her. Joke's on her. Seems kind of petty to get all worked up on something so minute.

Oooo this would really grind my gears!! I knew a girl who started dancing for exactly one week at the club I had worked at for years and then would come back to "visit all her old friends" and then talk about how the club "used to be". I used used to drive me nuts!!!

I can see how it would be annoying. I don't know anybody who did the one night strip thing but I do have a friend who went to the military and got sent home because she couldn't hack it & she actually tells ppl she served. Its both annoying and disrespectful to those who have actually paid their dues and earned the title.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. She must not have much going on in her life that she has to pretend to be a stripper.

Its more of an insult to us dancers who have been doing it 10-20 years. A girl who tries to dance one night is just that--trying it out. It takes a while of keeping with it to be a true "dancer" or "stripper" if u must call it that. For my level of years in the industry which is over 15 years, even a girl whos been dancing 5 years is relatively new imo. Everyone sees things differently. Back when I started there was more class. There wasnt so much put ur puss in my face etc..Customers appreciated a little mystery..Now its like ''I want to see ur nipples puss and ass all this second." mentality. And that mentality is an insult to me. It turns me off which is why I mostly attract the guys who prefer a little more class.

Shift, you were a dancer then in the 90's so you saw how much better it was then. If the clubs were like that now I'd go back in a heartbeat. Sadly they aren't between the economy and the loosening of club standards. I have friends who still dance at clubs and they make less and less and are expected to provide more and more.

ughhhh that would annoy the hell out of me. Especially in this industry. We've been through a lot someone acting like 1 day is the same as years in this job is absolutely devaluing your experience. I danced at first for 3 months and then had a several year break. I can tell you even dancing for 3 months I wasn't even exposed to 10% of what I have seen during the second round of dancing of which my 3 year anniversary is next week. I can say Ive had a lot of highs and lows but overall this industry is soul destroying at times and I can acknowledge I don't think Ive even seen half of what some of you american girls have been through. From so many of the stories Ive read on here my club is child's play compared to what you have to put up with and way easier money at that. I really don't know if Id last in many of the clubs my fellow SWers work at. You are all strong women. The fact that a once-off girl thinks that is the same is proof in itself that she is totally delusional.

Yea, the late 90s were a totally, totally different type of dancing. Thats when girls 'danced' more than all of this stripping down, crazy pole trick type of dancing now.

^ To add to what I was saying earlier..Back in the late 90s to be fair, I had to learn how to make money. I make more money NOW then I did when I was 18. I didnt know how to "make" the money like I do now(being that theres something to pull from money-wise). But the economy is worse. 99' was a decent year with several regs but in 2001, when 9-11 hit that was the first real time I witnessed the business taking a hugee dive. Regs went away the business went in the shitter for a while. Ive rode out the waves and I know that when its good I better hold onto the money as much as Im able bc the good times rnt going to last.

Seriously..some people are just jealous. When the attention she is trying to draw turns negative she'll stop.
