    Default Stomach and stool issues...

I have no idea what to do. I have been chronically constipated for a long time now. I can't go to the doctor so I am wondering if there is any remedies I can try. I typically can deal with all of this on my own but this past week has been very odd for me stomach wise.

On Sunday I had terrible diarrhea that lasted for 2 days. After that I drank water and poweraide to replenish what I lost. After that I was dizzy for another 3 days. I have not been able to eat really since last Sunday. I get full so fast. I lost about 5 pounds.

Now it is Saturday...I look like I am 9 months pregnant ready to pop. I feel like I have to go but obviously I can't. I need a laxative or something that will work asap and work good. I can't wait any longer. Oh when I did go it was pale colored (almost greyish white but still dark) with bits of dark green. I feel terrible. Lately I have been getting this radiating pain in my kidneys too this week.

So any quick laxative suggestions? Suppository's do not work for me enemas really don't either.

If you can go to a doctor it's probably a good idea (It may just be something in your diet i.e. a food allergy, just a lack of fiber/fluids, or it may be even just stress in general. But it could be something more serious like IBS). In the meantime you could try taking an acidophilus tablet to help your stomach/digestion (good for IBS etc). For "quick relief", a senna based laxative tea will do the trick (available from most health food shops-store bought laxatives are not as strong and won't help IMO if you are really blocked up).

Okay - this should only be used when you've exhausted all other options (and it sounds like you have) - http://www.medshopexpress.com/062502.html
Fleet oral saline laxative. It's what my GI makes me take as a bowel prep to clean me out before a colonoscopy (I have colitis). It tastes AWFUL ... but it works, and it works fast. You need to have a few hours to hang around the toilet though, because this stuff is no joke. I have constipation issues too, and really, most laxatives don't do much for me. This stuff, however... BAM.

Also, for something more gentle that will work overnight, try Traditional Medicinal's Smooth Move tea. It's senna tea, which is the same basic ingredient in senekot, but it's much gentler and more effective. It just makes you have a normal bowel movement if you're backed up a little....it doesn't have the, ahem, explosive effect.

Anyways, hope that helps! Good luck

You may have a food allergy or, as what was mentioned above, IBS. I'd go to a doctor to get tested for sure. In the mean time, cut out all processed foods and refined sugar and increase your fiber intake. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water. Cucumber water is a great diuretic that may help with the bloat. Slice up half a cucumber and add it to a pitcher of water and let it sit in the refrigerator over night.

didn't you start the homelessness thread? honestly, this is probably all stress. i worked at a club once that made my stress so bad, i looked pregnant. t if your financial and living situation are a mess, yes, your body is going to be affected by the panic.

at this point, i would assume that the constipation is a symptom of psychological stressors. i get constipated regularly and it is always stress related.

quick fix, fleet enemas or laxatives. daily tummy massage (you can google how to massage your colon), and consider if your animal product consumption could be making a bad problem worse.

Are you drinking enough water? As in at least 6 bottles of water a day?

Thank you all. I was able to pick up some of the senna tea from the store. I swear whenever I google this stuff it brings me to some colon cleanse site.

I work in healthcare with geriatrics, prune juice can be really effective with chronic constipation, some of my residents report increased effectiveness when the prune juice is warm.

This is exactly how I felt before finding out I was allergic to wheat and had IBS. I had chronic constipation on and off for years that nothing, absolutely nothing, could help fix. In fact, typical laxatives only made my symptoms worse and created intense pain throughout my digestive system.

A gastrointestinal specialist once recommended (knowing my history, colonoscopy results etc) using milk of magnesium. It is a liquid antacid which taken at a higher dose has laxative effects. She told me it was safe to take on an ongoing basis. I didn't even try it for a month after she recommended it cuz I had tried so many things with no success and I was very disillusioned. When I finally started taking it it CHANGED MY LIFE! Seriously.

I went from having bowel movements only every 7-10 days that consisted of tiny, hard, pellet-like stools to having one completely normal bowel movement every morning. (Sorry I know probably TMI).

I started at 1 tablespoon per night and slowly increased until I found an amount that gave me a normal bowel movement. You have to be careful because if you take too much you will just get diarrhea and mess up your system even more. I now take 2 and a half tablespoons nightly, increasing it slightly (3-3.5 tablespoons) if my symptoms temporarily worsen, which they occasionally do.

I really hope that helps. I know what it's like to feel this way and it's horrible. I've cried over it many times because it can literally ruin your life if you have digestive problems long-term. Good luck. And feel free to private message me if you want to vent or talk or have any questions.

Oh, one last thing. Not to freak you out or anything but light coloured stools are a common symptom of celiac disease (ie. allergy to gluten which is a protein in wheat and a couple of other grains). It's definitely something worth checking into.

Do you eat enough greens/fruit? Water is key like another user stated. I would also see if you Iron deficient.

2-4 teaspoons of epsom salts dissolved in a glass of water will produce a major blowout if ur backed up. I suggest the 2 tsps bc the 4 tsps r honestly too much. I suggest this only if all other methods do not work.

God forbid, but these 2 symptoms made me automatically think of a parasite/worms. If I had more time right now I’d research that possibility in conjunction with your other symptoms.

The kidney pain is also a scary symptom…

But most likely, it isn’t something too serious. I get the same thing with the “pregnant” belly, occasionally. Milk of Magnesia and (I know, gross) cod liver oil help. I swear by it, and they now come in “flavors.” Just make sure you have a chaser

It’s too bad you can’t got to the Dr., for whatever reason, just to rule out anything that could get worse. Your health is all we have, and if that goes, you will feel 1000x worse than you do now.

Anyway, I hope you’ve been getting better since you started the thread!
