Default Keep getting turned down my for my dance skills :/

I worked for a month at a club in London, but it was small and there wasn't any money there so a coupla weeks ago I stopped going. Since then I've tried out at some of the bigger clubs and while they loved my look and the fact I was English, they weren't such fans of my dancing.

Ok, I've only got one month's dancing experience under my belt and I know my dancing could still be a lot better, but I don't think it's terrible and neither does my experienced stripper friend. I need to dance slower, I need to get up off the floor better and I need to be less repetitive (I'm not used to 2 song sets yet so I end up repeating moves), but of course now that I'm not in a club I don't have much opportunity to practice. And in general, I find it really hard to judge my own dancing cause I can't see it from the perspective of the audience.

Anyone got any decent suggestions on how I can improve?

watch some videos on youtube, particularly using the search term "floor work". this should help. also dancing at home in front of a mirror to the songs the club plays. work on being slow... you can do the same moves over and over again if you have different transitions/different ways of going in and out of them/doing them at different angles/using your hands or legs differently/etc.

a big thing to do, which is just as important or MORE important than the actual moves, is to connect with the customer, deep eye contact, be sensual, make them think you want them by the way you look at them and move.

Yes! If you can make the customers look like they're enjoying your show and want you around, you'll get hired. And on a semi-related note, look like you're enjoying yourself up there! It makes a world of difference.

Haha, there weren't any customers around during either of those auditions.

I checked out a lot of youtube videos and practiced at home before auditioning. Here are a couple of my faves:

Of course some of the moves are really advanced but a lot are just basic dance moves.

in the uk customers aren't really interactive with the girls on stage(they watch and clap afterwards) they don't really cheer, clap or tip during the stage shows so it would be very hard to make them look like they are enjoying it, i suppose you could get a pole for in your house, maybe a second hand one.

Don't get disheartened. UK clubs are crowded at the moment and a good stage show doesn't earn you money, if anything it just encourages customers to sit there enjoying the free show and not spend.

I resent doing lots of pole work as i bruise easily, so my tips are to think more about your floor work and transitions and how you use the stage space.

If a club has any other stage decoration then use it - mirrors, chaise lounges, chairs etc can all enhance your show, as can wearing more layers of clothing to peel off. After all, this is supposed to be the art of strip tease!

Also choose you music carefully - girl after girl dancing to the same old tunes gets dull no matter how much of a whizz they are on the pole. If you pull a music track out that's different customers appreciate it even if your dancing isn't that great.

    Yeah, watch youtube videos.

I also will record myself practicing using the webcam on my laptop and then watch it back to see where I look awkward. It really helps, especially when it comes to getting into the habit of keeping your toes pointed and back arched.

youtube youtube youtube for a few basic move ideas.

Dance much much slower. I'm at a club with a spinning pole atm which i have never been on so i had to realllly slow down to get used to it, my dancing looks better as a result. It also means you don't have to do as many things if you really draw out any floor move.

Also find a slow song that you really enjoy. You can start to feel the music on stage and just naturally let some sexy out. I have started pretending I'm dancing on my own, I'm always really slow and really sexy when I'm not worried anyone's watching me lol.

Practice, practice, practice! Youtube is great.

In the meantime, maybe you can dance less and pose more. I admit to being super posey on stage, esp. when doing three songs. I think I really sexy pose while slowly running your hands down your body can be really hot.
